Locked On NBA – Daily Podcast On The National Basketball Association

What an insane day for L.A. Hoops in the Association!

First, the Buss Family reportedly agreed to sell their remaining shares of the Lakers and exit team ownership altogether... but Jeanie Buss, who clearly wants to remain as Team Governor, has disputed this, and her lawyer claims any sale isn't possible without her approval.

From there, you've got ESPN reporting that the league has decided there's no evidence of Steve Ballmer funneling money to Kawhi Leonard as part of a cap circumvention scheme, and is now moving towards whether or not the Clippers improperly introduced Leonard to team sponsors, then failed to monitor the outcomes, which essentially allows for potential cap circumvention. The league put out a statement refuting this.

What to make of this craziness? Andy Kamenetzky (Locked On Lakers) and Camille Davis (Locked On Bucks) do their best to piece it all together.

Did the Cleveland Cavaliers just make the move before the move? Wes Goldberg, Matt Moore and Haize break down Cleveland’s trade of Dennis Schroder for Tre Mann, the financial flexibility it creates and whether another addition — such as Peyton Watson or Jonathan Kuminga — could turn the Cavs into an even bigger threat in the East.

Then, Klay Thompson says he wants to play a meaningful role for a team capable of making a deep playoff run. Does that mean his time in Dallas is nearing an end? The guys debate whether Klay can still help a contender and which destinations make the most sense.

Finally, the Rotation Lab heads to Golden State. With Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody unavailable to start the season, how should the Warriors build their rotation around Steph Curry — and can they stay afloat until reinforcements arrive?

It's a fun August Day of news around the Association. First, Kevin Garnett's long-awaited (and for a variety of reasons, long overdue) Minnesota Timberwolves jersey retirement day has been set, appropriately against the visiting Boston Celtics, the team KG left Minneapolis for in order to finally break through and win a title. But by his own admission, the greatest T-Wolf in franchise history never lost his love for his former squad (if not his former squad owner), so it's awesome to see an all-time NBA great (much less Minny icon) properly celebrated.

From there, a look at who's getting inducted in the Hall of Fame this weekend, and which names could soon join the likes of Amar'e Stoudemire, Doc Rivers, Candace Parker, Chamique Holdsclaw, and Mike D'Antoni (among others).

From there, a look at how a trade sending Dennis Schröder to the Hornets opens up some apron-related breathing room for the Cavaliers, and whether it could be a step towards a sign-and-trade involving Peyton Watson or Jonathan Kuminga. Plus, LeBron James got the mural treatment in Philly. Will he be able to satisfy a notoriously rough fan base?

Hosts: Swipa (Locked On Nuggets, Locked On NBA), Andy Kamenetzky (Locked On Lakers)

NBA shake-up: Should the league slash its 82-game schedule for better basketball? Matt Moore breaks down why fewer games and fewer back-to-backs could mean a higher-quality product, debating the best season format and innovative ideas like a midseason All-Star break and the future of the NBA Cup. Key talking points include injury prevention, the challenge of maintaining historical stats, and what it means for player longevity and fan excitement.

Plus, the hosts question the NBA’s heavy reliance on veteran stars like LeBron James and Steph Curry for national TV coverage, pointing to the lack of exposure for emerging talents like Tyrese Haliburton and Cam Boozer. The controversy continues as the LA Clippers re-sign Bradley Beal, raising eyebrows about team direction, roster flexibility, and potential trade implications involving Brandon Ingram, Peyton Watson, and Brook Lopez. Can the Clippers’ mix of youth and experience make noise in the West, or is a rebuild looming?

NBA schedule shakeup: Did league execs get the key matchups and marquee holiday slots right, or did fan favorites get snubbed? Christmas Day features a Finals rematch between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, plus high-stakes battles like Sixers vs. Lakers and Thunder vs. Timberwolves. But are playoff contenders like the Indiana Pacers and rising stars like AJ Dybantsai and Trae Young getting enough national TV love? The debate is on.

David Ramil breaks down hot topics including the rise of afternoon NBA games, the pros and cons of rivalry week, and which return games—like Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee and Jaylen Brown in Boston—promise fireworks. Key discussions tackle the intense Knicks-Sixers rivalry, overlooked matchups such as Thunder-Spurs, and the impact of schedule quirks on both superstar narratives and up-and-coming teams. Which heated clashes and emerging storylines will define the new NBA season?

Russell Westbrook has officially retired, ending one of the most electrifying and polarizing careers in NBA history. Wes Goldberg, Matt Moore and Haize look back at Westbrook’s legacy, his MVP peak and what he meant to Oklahoma City after Kevin Durant’s departure.

Finally, it’s back to the Rotation Lab to examine the Milwaukee Bucks as they enter the post-Giannis Antetokounmpo era. Who starts? Which young players are actually worth building around? And which veterans could become trade-deadline targets?
