Locked On Nebraska - Daily Podcast on the Nebraska Cornhuskers

We’re back together on a Wednesday and talking about Nebraska football in 2026. It’s been established that fans around the program are feeling a little down in this moment. Many have taken a glass-half-empty approach to the offseason and the upcoming fall. How much of that is related to the Huskers’ poor, three-game finish in 2025? And are some of these feelings related to the presence of Indiana, Oregon and Ohio State on the Huskers’ slate next season?

The transfer portal is open in basketball. Two Huskers have entered. Fred Hoiberg is looking for a few pieces to fill out his next roster. Also, Nebraska baseball saw its 10-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night at the start of an important stretch of games. Will Bolt didn’t stick around to see the end. Join us for details and our thoughts.

Before "One Shining Moment" reached its last note on Monday night, the transfer portal was open. For Nebraska basketball, this is reality. Coach Fred Hoiberg reflected Monday on the Huskers' run to the Sweet 16, at the same time acknowledging the work ahead -- in retention and acquisition -- to ensure that Nebraska builds on its success.

We're joined on this Tuesday by Dirk Chatelain to dissect the moment in basketball for Nebraska. Dirk shares his perspective as a longtime observer and journalist. And we veer into a conversation, too, about Nebraska baseball and the immediate challenge for Will Bolt's team. Join us.

This week starts with a serving of basketball. It’s championship Monday. Michigan is on the big stage against UConn. And the Wolverines have a chance to deliver another national title to the Big Ten. If it happens, the Big Ten would hold trophies in football and men’s basketball together for the first time since 1940-41. That’s not even to mention that UCLA – a member of the Big Ten – won the league’s first title in women’s basketball on Sunday. Our hosts debate the importance of this Big Ten dominance.

Also, we’re annoyed by a few aspects of football recruiting as the spring contact period nears a start. Finally, Nebraska baseball and softball completed sweeps over the weekend. What’s next for these two squads as the weather, hopefully, warms in April and May? Join us.

We’re here on this Friday to answer your questions. Are fans of Nebraska football actually more realistic than ever – and not mired in negativity, as we’ve suggested? What’s the connection between the Huskers and one of the NFL’s worst franchises? Fred Hoiberg wins the AP coach of the year award. Could his son, Sam, ever end up on the Nebraska basketball radio broadcast?

One brand of beer is again a topic. Is the state of Nebraska too far from everything that’s relevant for the Huskers to succeed? Does Mitch annoy you? How to fix college football? And we revisit the comments made last week after the spring game by Nebraska safety Dwayne McDougle. Join us and have a great weekend.

Big Ten dominance is rewriting the college sports landscape as the conference makes a statement in both football and basketball. With powerhouse programs like Michigan, Ohio State, and Illinois consistently reaching Final Fours and securing national titles, has SEC supremacy finally faded? The squad unpacks how NIL and transfer portal shifts have tilted the scales, and what it means for the future of national championships. The Big 10 Squad debates on marquee coaching hires, player transfers, and the Big Ten’s path through the NCAA tournament. Key matchups include Michigan vs. Arizona and Illinois vs. UConn, with insights on Dusty May and portal stars like Aday Mara. Can Michigan or Illinois finally break the Big Ten's title drought, or will Dan Hurley's UConn derail the conference’s run? Find out who the experts pick in these crucial showdowns.

OK, spring football at Nebraska is over – almost a full month earlier than normal. So what do the Huskers do next? A full six weeks remain until the spring semester is over. It’s time that Nebraska can’t afford to waste. There are other questions to address in the wake of spring ball. Are the Huskers elite at any position group on the field? And how much will we hear from coach Matt Rhule over the next four months?

We’re talking about the news from Husker Online that Pryce Sandfort played with a sports hernia and needs surgery. Is he more likely, as a result, to return to Lincoln as a senior. Also, nationally ranked Nebraska baseball and softball return home this weekend to continue their runs at Big Ten titles. For Will Bolt’s team in particular, a key stretch of nine games is nearly here. Join us on this Thursday.

It’s Wednesday, and we’re tackling an awkward topic. What about Nebraska football is different than all of the other programs in which the Huskers invest? Whether it’s baseball or softball this spring, basketball in the winter or volleyball in the fall, Nebraska is winning big right now in athletics. What’s the common thread – and why hasn’t it led Matt Rhule’s football team to the mountaintop? We’ve got theories and avenues to explore.

On the topic of winning, Will Bolt’s squad beat Creighton 6-5 to earn its 17th victory Tuesday night 18 games. Connor saw the Huskers up close. We take a look at that team and examine what’s next at the outset of April. And Nate Loenser, the Nebraska basketball assistant, was up for a head-coaching job. Could the Huskers still lose their defensive coordinator in this offseason? Join us.

Spring football in Matt Rhule’s Nebraska football program has ended, but the narratives remain. A long five months await for the Nebraska football fans who aren’t willing to believe any of what they see and hear until September. Let’s dig into the narratives and offer some help with a guide on this final day of March about what is real and what’s not.

Is the quarterback-offensive coordinator match a good one? Can the run defense hold up? Is there too much negativity swirling? Is Jamal Rule on track for a special season as a true freshman? And more. Finally, we’re previewing Nebraska-Creighton baseball on Tuesday night in downtown Omaha. Join us.

Spring football is over at Nebraska. The spring game came and went on Saturday. The Huskers unveiled QB Anthony Colandrea and running back Jamal Rule and a long list of other newcomers. Did the new quarterback live up to his billing? What’s a Nebraska comp for Colandrea? And now that we’ve seen the running back room by committee, it may have changed our opinions on Nebraska’s decision this winter to stand with the group it had. We discuss.

Also, a couple of the transfers brought some bravado and confidence to their post-scrimmage comments. And as we’ve seen this year, anything that isn’t winning a football game at the moment sits poorly with some Nebraska fans. The Final Four is set. We’re looking back, too, and the weekend in Lincoln on the baseball and softball diamonds. These teams are going places. Join us.

The dream season came to a screeching end Thursday night in Houston for the Nebraska basketball team. Iowa overcame a game-long deficit with a late run to beat the Huskers 77-71 in the Sweet 16. The final minute was marred for Nebraska by a mistake. Connor and Mitch get into all of it. And we’re discussing the future for Husker hoops as a result of all the magic that transpired this season.

Also, it’s time for the Nebraska football spring game. Yes, it kicks off Saturday at 11 a.m. at Memorial Stadium. We’re looking forward to it. Nebraska baseball and softball are also home on a big sports weekend in Lincoln. Expect some wild weather. We provide a forecast. Join us on this Friday.
