Locked On Nebraska - Daily Podcast on the Nebraska Cornhuskers

Transfer portal activity is officially underway at Nebraska, and the Huskers added a big piece on Sunday. Quarterback Kenny Minchey is in from Notre Dame. Connor and Mitch are here to decipher this signing for the Huskers. What does it mean for TJ Lateef and the Nebraska QB picture? Who is Minchey, and what and what is he bringing to Lincoln?

Also, players continue to exit Nebraska. The big departure on Sunday was Keona Davis, the two-year defensive lineman who could make the Huskers wish by the time his college days are done that they had found a way to use him more effectively. We’re also taking a look at the changing roster numbers for Nebraska. How much room exists to add pieces over the next two weeks. Join us.

It’s a special Saturday mailbag. We’ve got a full first segment of talk about that Nebraska basketball victory against No. 9 Michigan State on Friday night. The Huskers are 14-0 and living large. Even Tom Izzo loves it. Portal season has arrived. Is Matt Rhule back from Las Vegas yet?

The Huskers are trending to sign QB Kenny Minchey, the backup at Notre Dame in 2025 who was recruited by Dana Holgorsen out of high school in Tennessee and appears to fit the style of offense that the Huskers want to run this year. One listener asks: Why are fans so unreasonable and angry? Does Nebraska need dudes or development? Lots of psycho-analysis on the state of Nebraska football. Connor and Mitch try to offer help. Enjoy your weekend. We’re back on Monday.

Happy New Year from Locked on Nebraska. Connor and Mitch are here on this New Year’s Day to assess the damage after Nebraska lost, 44-22, to Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl on Wednesday afternoon. It was a rough afternoon for the Huskers. They did not adjust. They made Utah quarterback Devon Dampier look like Josh Allen. And they are left to enter 2026 feeling sorrowful. But there is always hope.

We get into the ugly details of this game and preview what’s next for Nebraska as January begins. Also, looking back, why the backwards hat? Did Matt Rhule need to go in that direction in December? Did it do something to help? And if so, does that to bigger questions? Lots to analyze and digest as the calendar turns. Join us.

The final game day of the 2025 college football season is here. With Nebraska and Utah set to clash on New Year's Eve, Locked On Nebraska co-host Mitch Sherman joins JT Wistrcill, host of Locked On Utes, to discuss the Las Vegas Bowl. Can Nebraska snap its streak of misery against ranked teams? Or will the Utes' attack prove too strong for a defense that has struggled against the run this season.

The Huskers are without two of their top defenders in addition to All-America running back Emmett Johnson. But Utah also enters this game at less than full strength. Mitch and JT discuss the mindsets of both teams after their tumultuous months of December during bowl. Join us before kickoff.

The final hours of the football season for Nebraska are here. In Las Vegas on Monday, we heard from the Huskers’ three coordinators this month – Dana Holgorsen, Phil Snow and Mike Ekeler – and the new offensive line coach, Geep Wade. Wade hit the ground running. He coached the linemen through bowl prep. He came to Nebraska with a vision for the O-line, and he’s got plans for the Huskers in 2026.

Holgorsen is focused on making the best of this season-ending game with freshman QB TJ Lateef. But the portal is looming. What does the OC think about the days ahead? And what are the keys to victory for Nebraska against Utah? We’re making picks for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Join us.

The Nebraska football team has hit the ground running in Las Vegas. And soaring through the air – as coach Matt Rhule displayed in riding the zip line above Fremont Street. Rhule and the Huskers are deep into practice for the Las Vegas Bowl, which kicks off on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

We’re talking today about the intrigue around this game for the Huskers against Utah. Is it merely an epilogue? The bigger news of this week awaits on Friday and into the weekend, when the transfer portal opens. We’ve got a few thoughts. But on this Monday, our attention is still diverted somewhat to Las Vegas, where the Huskers have enjoyed the services of an In-N Out food truck. Join us as we set the table for an eventful week ahead.

It’s a post-Christmas mailbag. We hope you’ve experienced an overload of joy in recent days. Here, we’re jumping back into the grind of questions as the realities of January loom. The transfer portal opening is near. Our listeners want to know things. Why are we assuming that any guarantees exist for Matt Rhule and the Huskers at quarterback?

Who can the Huskers least afford to lose? Are we overlooking an available QB with local connections? Did Heinrich Haarberg miss an opportunity over the past two seasons? One listener comes with a theory that Dylan Raiola is to Rhule as Bryce McGowens was to Fred Hoiberg. Connor and Mitch weigh in. Join us on this still-festive Friday.

Another quarterback is set to enter the transfer portal at Nebraska. We never got to know Marcos Davila, but he’s heading back out. It’s not a weighty departure, but the situation in Lincoln lacks stability. Just one quarterback on scholarship is set to return. That is, of course, TJ Lateef, the true freshman who’s fighting through a hamstring injury to prep for the Dec. 31 Las Vegas Bowl.

How many are the Huskers looking to add in December? Who might they consider? What’s the best approach to the portal for the Huskers? Do they go young, old or both? Is Lateef the favorite to retain the starting spot in 2026? Connor and Mitch address a laundry list of questions. And we’re talking about Nebraska’s other portal declarations from this week. Join us.
