Happy 600th episode day everyone!

Also, manager Derek Shelton appeared to suggest hitting coach Andy Haines and pitching coach Oscar Marin would be returning for the 2024 season. There are many opinions of both Haines and Marin and how will their returns effect the Pirates next season, and will those effects be positive or negative?

Ethan is back on the Locked On Pirates Podcast and in coming back, he's talking about the Pittsburgh Pirates winning baseball games folks. Pittsburgh has now won 7 of 10 as the season slowly comes to a close, so how could a positive ending impact 2024?

Also, Ke'Bryan Hayes has had a major resurgence since returning from injury, playing some of the best baseball of his Pirates career. Can it be sustained and how important is his success for the Pirates success moving forward?

Luis Ortiz pitched well on Monday as he looks for consistency. He was consistent Monday night, but can he prove to the Pirates he can be consistent each start?

Finally, Pittsburgh looks to earn a series win over the Brewers tonight and Ethan has your game preview.

The Pittsburgh Pirates rebuild is over, but as the Pirates take stock of things for the future, will Derek Shelton be the Bucs manager when they are good again? It seems as though Shelton will be back for the pirates in 2024 so maybe that season will be Shelton's evaluation.

Also, Shelton has one annoying thing that he does that may be harmful to the Pirates future. And what is the one thing to watch for in 2024 that lets you know the Pirates are heading in the right direction?

The Pittsburgh Pirates are moving into the next phase of building into a contender which means this offseason they must do a few things. It starts with improving the Pirates pitching staff.

Also, the second part of the Pirates offseason plan may be hard for some to accept but it is crucial. And the Pirates sweeping the Kansas City Royals has them primed to pass a key marker for the 2023 MLB season against the St Louis Cardinals.

Johan Oviedo accomplished something that is rare for the Pittsburgh Pirates and MLB. His complete game shutout of the Kansas City Royals shows why Oviedo is a big part of the Pirates future. The game also showed a weakness for the Pirates.

That weakness is the Pirates hitting approach and it is time for Andy Haines to go. The Pirates lack of success at the plate with their young hitters is also a problem when you consider the Cincinnati Reds have a team full of young players succeeding.

On today's episode, host Ethan Smith talks about the stall in Oneil Cruz's rehab as he's dealing with left foot soreness. His return to action is in question, so, would it make sense to shut him down for 2023 and focus on 2024?

Also, Luis Ortiz returned and struggled as the Pirates failed to sweep the Cardinals and anything positive from 2022 has dissipated. Can he get his velocity and command back or should we be worried about Ortiz longterm.

Finally, Andrew McCutchen is still on home run No. 300 watch and the Pirates look to play spoiler against the Chicago Cubs this weekend.

On today's episode of Locked On Pirates, host Ethan Smith discusses the career evening from Joshua Palacios amidst a blowout victory of the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. Will the offense carry over into game two against Adam Wainwright?

Also, Johan Oviedo faces Waino tonight, and Ethan has been thinking about how important Oviedo will be for the Pirates moving forward. If Oviedo can have a strong end to his surprising 2023 campaign and workload, the off-season decisions for the Pirates could become easier in relation to the starting pitching staff.

Finally, Henry Davis went on the IL prior to yesterday's game after a right hand strain in his thumb. The injury stings, but it could be a valuable break for Davis moving forward.

Welcome to another Gary Morgan Monday edition of Locked On Pirates.

Host Ethan Smith and Gary discuss the upcoming series against the St. Louis Cardinals, a battle between the bottom two teams in the NL Central. What does this series mean for Pittsburgh? How can they take advantage of the Cardinals weak pitching staff and why is a series win so important?

Also, we've been marveling at Paul Skenes on this show since he was selected No 1 overall just about a month ago. He's made two debuts already, one in the FCL and two games in Bradenton. He's done well in his three outings thus far, but will he continue to move quickly through the system before being shut down?

Finally, as 2023 slowly comes to a close, the roster is going to be loaded heading into 2024 Spring Training, and that's before any offseason additions. Is it time to think about some young players and it being their last chance to make an impact in Pittsburgh?
