Locked On Rockies - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Rockies

It has been a long week for Rockies fans as the trade deadline has come and gone, no moves have been made and the Rockies could fall victim to a five game sweep at the hands of the revamped San Diego Padres. One positive? One of the players of the future has been called up and there's mention of lots more playing time for Elehuris Montero, and that is a good thing. Tech issues try to but fail at getting in the way of our conversation with Shawn Drotar (@SDrotar), co-host of "Sandy and Shawn" on 104.3 The Fan in Denver. We discuss the inactivity and mindset of the Rockies front office, how the team can remain relevant while other Colorado teams thrive, and if bringing up the prospects would actually help attendance even more. The Colorado Rockies are the only team in Major League Baseball NOT to make a trade this season. While division rivals change the landscape of baseball, the Rockies continue to believe they have the right team. The Rockies did not get better today and the front office has disappointed again. Multiple teams make moves today as tomorrow's trade deadline looms ahead of this year's playoff race. The Rockies, made a move, resigning Daniel Bard for two years, instead of listening to the calls for Bard. The Rockies still have multiple trade pieces they could move, but will they? Also, the Padres got better, as they continue to operate very differently than the Rockies. Follow the show on Twitter @LORockies and the host Paul Holden @PaulHolden33. The Colorado Rockies were crushed by the Dodgers... again. The narrative remains the same and this team and it's "playoff rotation" are not poised to beat teams like the Dodgers. It isn't a bad thing to accept that during this season and make a change, but we all know what to expect at the deadline. Last night's game further highlights a team desperate for a fresh perspective and fresh faces. Follow the show on Twitter, @LORockies and the host Paul Holden @PaulHolden33. Elias Díaz sent Rockies fans home happy yesterday with a walk off single to split the series with the White Sox. Similar to last year, Díaz is showing that he thrives once the season is in full swing. Plus, a word about loading the bases via walks, so important at that stage.

This isn't the first time we've asked and answered this question, but with host of Locked On Rockies getting the chance to watch Jon Gray pitch, for the Rangers, we wanted to compare Gray to the rest of the Rockies rotation. Would you rather Chad Kuhl or Gray? We dive into that and more. Follow the show on Twitter @LORockies and the host Paul Holden @PaulHolden33. Subscribe on YouTube and be part of the show!

Today, Colorado Rockies Manager Bud Black told MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM that he believes the team will try to sign Chad Kuhl and José Ureña before season is done, adding that he believes this pitching staff is playoff caliber. We look at the numbers to see if that is the case. He also adds later on that if the Rockies position players hit their stride, they can compete with anyone. While we love the enthusiasm, it is hard to say that about a team well below .500 and out of the playoff race. Follow the show on Twitter @LORockies and the host Paul Holden @PaulHolden33. We recorded an episode last week highlighting players that need to step it up. One player we didn't mention, was Ryan McMahon. The time is now for Ry Mac to step up and be the leader and the player this club needs. He has the talent, but has not been able to avoid striking out, an issue that plagues more than just him. Plus, the Rockies bullpen blows it again, another example of why this team should sell. Follow the show on Twitter @LORockies and the host Paul Holden @PaulHolden33. You may see the title of today's podcast and say "Really? Two losses after the All-Star break to a division leading team and you are ready to throw in the towel?! To which host of Locked On Rockies Paul Holden says, exactly. The Rockies should sell while they can and build up for a season with a better opportunity for a run. This team does not have the depth it needs to be a playoff threat. We break that down in today's podcast. Follow the show on Twitter @LORockies and the host Paul Holden @PaulHolden33.
