Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have named Trevor Siemian their starting quarterback heading into this weekend’s matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. While the Saints have maintained competitive edges with five quarterbacks over the last three seasons, a win this weekend won’t be easy and should not be taken lightly. Head coach Sean Payton has done wonders to keep this team afloat amidst unimaginable adversity. Meanwhile, WR Odell Beckham Jr. could be the answer at WR, so much so that the Saints tried to trade for him at the deadline, but the Browns wouldn’t budge. Now they’ve been forced to move on from him, but is it too late for New Orleans?

With Trevor Siemian starting at quarterback, it’s not mystery that Taysom Hill will see his fair share of snaps at the position as well. How he, Alvin Kamara, and Mark Ingram play a key role in a win vs. the Atlanta Falcons and two more keys to victory that include reintroducing old friends Cameron Jordan and Matt Ryan as many times as possible.

Doug Mouton of WWL-TV joins the show to talk Saints QB, WR, and much more. Why the New Orleans Saints should be considered favorites against the Falcons despite the whirlwind of news around the team this week.

The New Orleans Saints have been on the wrong side of the news cycle all week. Jameis Winston is out for the season and Michael Thomas won't be making his return. But do the Saints still have enough to remain competitive? Their first matchup to prove their viability will be against a familiar foe, the division rival Atlanta Falcons.

Will Taysom Hill be the Saints' starting quarterback? Or will his role as a receiver be too invaluable, paving the way for Trevor Siemian to get his first start in numerous years? Who will matchup with Falcons' receiving threat Kyle Pitts? Will Cam Jordan have another successful outing against Matt Ryan?

Ross Jackson of Locked On Saints and Aaron Freeman of Locked On Falcons break it all down in this week's crossover episode previewing the Saints and Falcons' Week 9 NFL matchup.

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas has suffered a setback in his recovery from the ankle injury that's kept him hampered since the opening week of 2020. Now that he will not return in 2021, the New Orleans Saints, who are also without starting QB Jameis Winston for the year, will need to figure out how best to bolster their passing game.

Exploring how the passing game shifted when Trevor Siemian was in at quarterback, nearly doubling the amount of passing over the middle of the field, and attacking the short-intermediate areas while taking fewer shows downfield. Is this the future of the New Orleans Saints in 2021 without Jameis Winston and Michael Thomas?

The team tried to land another receiver at the trade deadline with names like Odell Beckham Jr. and Darius Slayton both being connected to the team. Without being able to land then, the Saints will have to rely on a depleted market and the same roster they've had so far this season. But one player would help deliver a boost. But the question is: will his value be greater as a pass-catcher or a passer? Could Taysom Hill, once recovered, be what the team needs with Trevor Siemian under center? Or should Taysom Hill take the reins as a dual-threat QB?

The New Orleans Saints were connected to two massive names as the trade deadline passed. Despite no deal getting done, the Saints were reportedly tied to the Seattle Seahawks about QB Russell Wilson and the Cleveland Browns about WR Odell Beckham Jr. Details couldn't get worked out for OBJ, so the Saints will have to rely on Michael Thomas' return to bolster WR room.

But whether or not the Saints will pursue Russell Wilson next offseason remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, despite being down to their third quarterback, the Saints near the top of offensive efficiency in Week 8. Paulson Adebo continues to outsnap Bradley Roby, Malcalm Jenkins puts on a great performance, and the Saints continue to get their pass rushing boost from Marcus Davenport and Cam Jordan. Breaking it all down by the numbers.

The New Orleans Saints top off a remarkable win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a strong run game, Trevor Siemian at QB, and a P.J. Williams walk-off pick-6. But the biggest question will be where the Saints go next at quarterback.

WIth Jameis Winston out for the season with an ACL injury and MCL damage, will it be Taysom Hill once he's healthy? What about in the meanwhile? Still a lot of questions to ask for the New Orleans Saints who now hold on to sole ownership of the second spot in the division at 5-2.

Great defensive adjustments, long drives, and timely pass rush all contribute to the Saints' unlikely win against the Tampa Bay Bucs.

The New Orleans Saints face their toughest test of the season so far as Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel to the Crescent City to take on former starting quarterback Jameis Winston and a soaring Saints defense.

For the Saints to pull out a key divisional win against a tough opponent, they'll need the offense to find a way to super charge in the passing game, lighten Alvin Kamara's usage while allowing him to still have an impact, and find a way to keep long drives developing. The Saints acquired running back Mark Ingram from the Texans via trade, reuniting him and the city of New Orleans. How he is utilized in this game, as he's expected to play, could be the difference in an explosive offensive and a stifled one.

On the defensive side, star players like Marshon Lattimore, Demario Davis, Marcus Williams, Cam Jordan, and the returning David Onyemata will need to play up to their standards in order to limit the NFL's #3 scoring defense. When the Saints #3 scoring defense hits the field, it's sure to be a show, especially with the reunion of Marshon Lattimore and Mike Evans on the way.

Ricardo Lecompte of WWL-TV joins to talk more Mark Ingram, what he beings on the field and off, how David Onyemata impacts this matchup, and what will need to go right for Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints to pull off a big win at home on Halloween.

The New Orleans Saints have reunited with running back Mark Ingram as the team looks for more weapons on offense and ways to mitigate too many carries for Alvin Kamara, who is sure to play a large role against the reigning Super Bowl Champion and division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Meanwhile, Tampa continues to forge on through injuries in the secondary without Carlton Davis and Sean Murphy-Bunting. Can the Saints get healthy in time to take advantage of another weak secondary?

Alvin Kamara and Leonard Fournette are matching up against two premier rushing defenses. How they could steal the show from quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Tom Brady as Jameis looks to knock off his former team.

Is the style of the Saints' offense being so run heavy more to do with Jameis' turnover history or the lack of receiving threats? David Harrison and Ross Jackson breakdown the New Orleans Saints hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Halloween day!

The New Orleans Saints will have to forge ahead without another pair of key players for the rest of the season. How the Wil Lutz and Andrus Peat injuries impact the Saints and how Brian Johnson and Calvin Throckmorton can perform in their stead. Did the Saints find a new kicker just in time? Distance will be the concern moving forward in the field goal game.

David Onyemata officially set to return to the Saints. Will he play this weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Did his preseason edge rusher snaps foreshadow 2021 usage? Lots of implications along with the return of the Saints' star defensive tackle.

Running Back Alvin Kamara is soon to be able to call himself the best skill position player in New Orleans Saints' history. On the verge of challenging Marques Colston and Mark Ingram for franchise TD marks. Demario Davis' phenomenal performance against Seattle continues his remarkable 2021 and much more including the return of Marcus Davenport.

The New Orleans Saints escape the Seattle Seahawks with a narrow win. Alvin Kamara and Jameis Winston connected early and often throughout the win and behind a healthy offensive line, for the most part. But the Saints, even with Michael Thomas expected to return in an uncertain but ideally soon timeframe, need more help at the receiver spot. Tre'Quan Smith's return raised some concerning questions and the previous group of receivers aren't making things easy for Sean Payton and his quarterback. Could the Saints look to bring in help at the trade deadline?

Not everything went poorly for New Orleans in their win. Alvin Kamara, Demario Davis, Marshon Lattimore, and others put together more promising performances. Kamara continues to be the model of consistency and reliability for the Saints' offense. and the defense shows up big again despite a bit play given up early in the first quarter to DK Metcalf.

Demario Davis shows leadership as a playmaker and helping his teammates stay calm in a chippy affair. The Saints find a reliable interim kicker in young Brian Johnson who was perfect on the day, and the Saints' offensive line gets the job done on the road in adverse conditions. Those and more gameballs to go around after the Saints improve to 4-2 with their Monday Night Football win in Seattle.

The New Orleans Saints should see their offensive line back at full strength with Erik McCoy and Terron Armstead looking ready to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. How much of an impact can they have? The Saints are single-digits away from being top-five in major offensive line metrics, their returns could boost them above.

The Saints will be without two major contributors on offense, WR Deonte Harris, and QB/Offensive Weapon Taysom Hill. It will take multiple players to make up for their lost production, but the Saints may have the talent to get it done. How Kenny Stills, Adam Trautman, and others can help.

The Saints will need big performances from some top talent on the offensive and defensive sides to win in Seattle. Regardless of whether Geno Smith or Russell Wilson were throwing passes, there's a big test ahead of Marshon Lattimore, Marcus Williams and the Saints' secondary with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in primetime.
