Locked On SEC – Daily College Football & Basketball Podcast

On today's show we start with the 2024 Preseason Coaches All-Southeastern Conference Football Teams being released, as a lot of the typical names you'd expect are on the list. Georgia led with 15 players on the All-SEC teams, while Alabama followed with 14 guys, and Texas had 10.

Texas and Texas A&M announce a sponsorship deal for the return of the Lone Star Showdown, as Texas AD Chris Del Conte reassured everyone that the Aggie-Longhorn rivalry games will continue to be played on their respective campuses, and not at a neutral site venue.

We also discuss the topic of "Did Alabama tamper when acquiring Miami of Ohio kicker Graham Nicholson through the transfer portal?" Miami (OH) head coach Chuck Martin made comments this week that Alabama "stole" their kicker who was the 2023 Lou Groza Award winner. If Alabama were stealing players, wouldn't they target a more impactful player than a kicker??

Lastly, we had a quick conversation with Laura Rutledge of SEC Nation and ESPN as we get her thoughts on Texas joining the SEC, great ideas for tailgating from Honey Baked Ham, which of her SEC Nation co-hosts eats the most, and Laura gives us here National Championship game picks.

On today's show, we discuss the SEC finally announcing the tiebreakers to determine who plays for the SEC Championship Game moving forward. Obviously with the SEC doing away with divisions and no more SEC East or West, the conference needed some deciders in who will play for the title. The first decider is "head-to-head", but since not everyone plays each other, and now 16 teams in the SEC, other tiebreakers could come into play.

In addition, we go Around The Conference as Oklahoma wins a big time recruiting battle in adding five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi, beating out rivals Texas and Texas A&M. Kadyn Proctor talks about going back to Alabama after transferring out. Caleb Downs hypes up Ohio State's defense after leaving Bama. Greg McElroy shares his SEC teams in the CFB Playoff.

Lastly, 24/7 Sports ranks all Power Four starting QBs from 1 to 68. Where did the SEC QBs fall in their rankings? Shockingly, a ton of them are ranked highly, including four of the top six. You may be shocked by which SEC QB they have ranked outside the Top 50.

On today's show, we start with the news that Shane Beamer named LaNorris Sellers the starting QB for South Carolina. While it wasn't a surprising decision, Beamer made it clear that Sellers is not guaranteed to the be the starter all season, and Robby Ashford could still  earn the starting job at some point if Sellers struggles. Will Sellers make it the entire season as QB1?

Other SEC news around the league: Eli Drinkwitz calls out Mizzou fans to help out the home opener next week; Hugh Freeze names a position group that still concerns him a ton; Ole Miss has a defensive lineman arrested; Kirby Smart updates a few key injuries on his roster; Steve Sarkisian said Quinn Ewers is taking that leader role already with the team; Tennessee releases their event schedule for the season; Alabama names their team captains for the 2024 season.

ESPN released their broadcast assignments for SEC Week 1, we run through those.

Brett McMurphy of The Action Network put out his season predictions, he has four SEC teams making the playoff, but none of them include Texas or Mizzou. And McMurphy has 11 SEC teams going bowling, with five teams not making a bowl game.

Lastly, we touch on some of the latest SEC recruiting commitments at schools like Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee and Florida. And the SEC releases their men's basketball complete conference schedule for the '24-'25 basketball season.

On today's show, we react to the news as another SEC key contributor is lost for the season, this time it's Mizzou's edge rusher Darris Smith, who just transferred in after two seasons at Georgia. While he may not have started, Smith was expected to be a key rotational piece for Missouri this season, on a defense that lost stud sacker Darius Robinson. But Johnny Walker Jr is back along with Joe Moore III, and they've added transfers in Zion Young and Eddie Kelly along with top recruit Williams Nwaneri.

We also react to ESPN's Preseason All-America First Team Offense and Defense. A ton of SEC names on the list, but some key notables not making the cut. It looks like they love what the SEC has on the offensive and defensive lines. No surprise with big names like Carson Beck, Luther Burden, James Pearce and Harold Perkins making the preseason list.

And we run through the Vegas odds on who they think will lead the SEC in rushing and receiving this year. Obviously with Texas losing CJ Baxter for the season, many believe Jaydon Blue has a chance to be a workhorse for the Longhorns. Meanwhile, Luther Burden is the overwhelming pick to lead the SEC in receiving yards, and you know Brady Cook will do his best to make that happen at Mizzou.

On today's show, we discuss the latest on injuries piling up around the conference including another Texas Longhorn running back lost for the season, this time in freshman back Christian Clark. Clark tore his Achilles, just days after starting RB CJ Baxter torn his LCL and PCL. Both backs will miss the entire 2024 season for Texas. Steve Sarkisian needs to protect RB Jaydon Blue in bubble wrap these next few weeks. Also, Oklahoma lost wide receiver Jayden Gibson for the season after he injured his knee in fall practice.

And at Kentucky, they will lose starting running back Chip Trayanum for at least 3 to 4 weeks with a broken hand. At least the good news for Trayanum is he's expected back some time early in the season. In addition, we discuss news that Tennessee is adding the sponsorship of Pilot to the field at Neyland Stadium.

And joining us on the show, we sit down with the great Cole Cubelic from SEC Media Days as we got his thoughts on the offensive lines across the SEC and who stands out heading into the 2024 season. We also catch up with former Kentucky wide receiver Randall Cobb as he discusses joining the SEC Network this upcoming season as a studio analyst.

On today's show, we start with the AP Top 25 Preseason Poll getting released as we run through the SEC teams ranked in the poll including #1 overall Georgia, who got 46 first-place votes as Kirby Smart and the Dawgs are the consensus favorite to win it all. Also in the top ten, we see Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss, with Mizzou, LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M rounding out the group.

We also run through ESPN's FPI predictions of "ceiling" and "floor" for win totals for those SEC teams, and who the ESPN writers pin as each teams' early season toughest matchup. It seems like the FPI is all over the place when it comes to teams like LSU and Texas A&M, where they could be potential CFB Playoff teams or completely miss a bowl game.

And we bring you audio of Hugh Freeze who sat down with Marty Smith and Ryan McGee and made headlines saying that he SHOULD have four wins vs Nick Saban. Obviously Freeze beat Saban twice when he was at Ole Miss, but Freeze claims he should've had at least two more wins. Hard to argue with the game they blew last year.

And another SEC player is lost for the season as the Florida Gators lose some defensive line depth as Jamari Lyons broke his ankle and will miss the 2024 season at Florida. While Lyons was expected to be a rotational piece for the Gators, it just makes them a little thinner on the interior of that d-line.

On today's show, we start with the news out of College Station that running back Rueben Owens suffered a lower leg injury. While some reports say they cannot confirm the severity of the injury, ESPN sources report Owens is lost for the season. And while the Aggies should be ok at the position with Amari Daniels and Le'Veon Moss, it sucks to see a highly player with a ton of upside miss out on what could've been this season for Texas A&M.

In addition, we go Around The Conference as Josh Heupel talks on Jourdan Thomas' season ending injury for the Vols, and how Boo Carter is looking as he hopes to fill that hole at the star position. Georgia picks up a commitment from 4-star cornerback Jontae Gilbert, while LSU adds four-star WR Phillip Wright.

And the Mackey Award Watch List is out with a ton of SEC tight ends making the list. Lastly, we talk with Billy Liucci of TexAgs as we preview what the Aggies could look like in Year 1 under Mike Elko, and expectations for that monster matchup vs Texas at the end of the season.

On today's show, we continue jumping around the conference with tidbits from fall camps, and we start at Alabama as wide receiver Germie Bernard said what?! When asked how good the Crimson Tide offense can be, Bernard said, "I think this offense is going to put up 40 points a game." Is Bernard on something or on to something?

We also get you updates from Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Mizzou, Florida, Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky and more.

And we sit down with Lyn Scarbrough of Lindy's Sports to get his thoughts on the upcoming SEC football season as we talk about life after Nick Saban, how close is Auburn to getting over the hump under Hugh Freeze, is he buying LSU or Tennessee? And much more!

On today's show, we discuss the latest over at Texas as the Longhorns lose their starting running back CJ Baxter for the season after it was revealed on Wednesday that he injured his LCL and PCL. Now the Longhorns will have to lean on running back Jaydon Blue to be their primary workhorse unless of their other young backs emerges. We talk the latest with NashTalksTexas as he gives the Longhorn perspective. Should Longhorn fans be concerned about their title chances after the Baxter injury?

Also, it sounds like in-season weekly injury reports will be coming to the SEC, whether some of the head coaches like it or not.

And we sit down with On3's JD Pickell to preview the upcoming SEC football season and find out his thoughts on teams like Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU and more!
