Locked On SEC – Daily College Football & Basketball Podcast

On today's show, Michigan wins the National Championship as we have a non-SEC title winner for the first time since 2018. Mark Schlabach dropped his Way Too Early 2024 Top 25 rankings with a number of SEC schools in his rankings.

Also, Ole Miss RB Quinshon Judkins has chosen his transfer destination in Ohio State, while Rebels RB Ulysses Bentley is coming back for another season.

And we had some shakeups for two SEC schools when it comes to their defensive coordinators. Alabama's Kevin Steele is retiring from coaching, while Auburn DC Ron Roberts is reportedly leaving the Plains for the Swamp, joining Billy Napier and the Florida Gators. And we've got more SEC Transfer Portal news too!

For the first time since 2014, the SEC will not play for a National Championship in college football. What was that play that Tommy Rees called for Jalen Milroe on 4th and goal from the three in overtime? They just needed a score to send the game to a second overtime. What was that!?

We also recap the weekend that was with the rest of the SEC in their bowl games. Nico Iamaleava impresses as Tennessee routs Iowa, LSU and Garrett Nussmeier survive a scare from Wisconsin, Georgia absolutely steamrolls Florida State, Ole Miss beats up on Penn State, Mizzou has a magical fourth quarter to beat Ohio State, and Kentucky loses a heartbreaker vs Clemson, while Auburn got dragged by Maryland.

And we get you caught up on some other tidbits as KJ Jefferson is headed to play for Gus Malzahn at UCF & more!

(Apologies for the audio being subpar!)

On today's show, we recap a very busy National Signing Day and the aftermath with our Recruiting Insider Brian Smith. Who were the biggest Winners and Losers this week?

We start discussing what happened this week with the Florida Gators as Billy Napier lost some big names in his signing class, but salvaged the day by locking in QB DJ Lagway and D-lineman LJ McCray. We also get Brian's thoughts on Georgia and Alabama once again locking in top two ranked classes. And Texas & Oklahoma both did work in recruiting Top 10 classes as they both prepare for the move to the SEC.

In addition, Brian talks on Hugh Freeze's Top 10 class at Auburn as Cam Coleman and Amaris Williams should play early and often. LSU's class was solid but missing some wow factor, Tennessee could see early action from WR Braylon Staley and DE Jordan Ross.

Brian also gives his thoughts on Mike Elko and Jeff Lebby bringing in their first recruiting classes at A&M and Mississippi State. Shane Beamer needed a big haul at South Carolina, and Dylan Stewart and Josiah Thompson were good gets. Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss bring in a nice class, but are impressing more in the portal. Mizzou's Williams Nwaneri should be a Day 1 starter. Sam Pittman's class at Arkansas was justok, as was Kentucky's as QB Cutter Boley will look to push Brock Vandagriff. And Vandy's class was highlighted by four-star safety Dontae Carter.

Today, we recap an epic Signing Day across the SEC, with not too many surprises but some strong classes signed as we now include Texas & Oklahoma into the fold. Bama and Georgia dominate the day as expected, as Billy Napier tried his best to hold his class together at Florida as several players flipped to other schools.

Other highlights include safety KJ Bolden flipping to Georgia, WR Ryan Wingo signing with Texas, athlete Aeryn Hampton flipping to Bama, DL Amaris Williams flipping to Auburn, WR Izaiah Williams flipping to Texas A&M, and LB Tyanthony Smith flipping to Texas. We also bring you some highlights of what the SEC coaches had to say about some of their recruits.

And some more transfer portal movement yesterday in the SEC, as former Georgia LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson heads to Kentucky, Florida adds Wisconsin WR Chimere Dike, Mizzou adds Georgia edge Darris Smith, and Tennessee picks up DB Jermod McCoy.
