• Very often there is childhood trauma behind disordered eating patterns. The trauma could be sexual abuse as a child or later in life, growing up with an alcoholic parent or some infirmity in the family, or issues of abandonment.
• Often, the reason behind bingeing on sweets is the desire to deaden one's emotions. Dealing with childhood trauma helps heal a person and in turn, helps heal one’s relationship with food.
• People pleasers typically do not have a strong sense of self. Constantly trying to please others can be stressful for a person and add to eating issues.
