A top a windswept rocky outcrop stands a lonely lighthouse. Its job for many years has been to forewarn sailors that their boats are at risk of striking one of the many jagged rocks that are hidden deep below the surface which could cause a devastating shipwreck.

The lamp which was tended to by three hardy keepers on rotation from the mainland of Scotland, one day went dark and when the watch came to replace the men from the isolated island they were nowhere to be found and the lighthouse itself was deserted sparking one of the greatest mysteries of all time.

Today on Macabre Mini Mysteries, we uncover the story of the abandoned Flannan Lighthouse and the fate of its three missing keepers.

There are many things in life which may lead people to question their existence and place in the world but out of all the external factors which can lead to a bout of the black dog creeping in, a song may not be the first thing that springs to mind that would trigger it. 

A simple song created by a composer in Hungary in 1933 is said to be responsible for a number of deaths and lore has grown around the composition which says the tune itself is now cursed and any listen of it should be done so with a significant warning. 

But is the tune a trigger for depression so extreme it would lead to multiple people ending it all or is the legacy of its creation something far darker which would go on to change history forever...

It will come as no surprise that in the late 19th century, people who had any kind of disability were treated differently.

Those who had health conditions or impairments often faced social ostracization, couldn’t get jobs and often found themselves down and out without any prospects,

and in a cut throat Victorian oppressive society, this meant that life could be a very uncomfortable ride.

But, for one man, he used the public fascination in his disability to his advantage to make a living, but sadly his story descended into a raw and tragic tale of Victorian exploitation, one which would end in an untimely death.
