Macabre London

2022 was quite the year of weird news so I figured it would be fun to go back over it, month by month before the year is through to regale some of the stranger stories from the year.

As there are quite a few strange stories, I'll be spreading this out over a few episodes before the end of 2022 like a cathartic cleansing ritual, so if you’re new here, make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss out when the next one is released.

Today's stories from June:

Alexa communicates with ghost

French apartment block ghost infestation causes emergency evacuation request from residents

Catholic exorcists overworked and not supported by church

In a central London boarding house, an ominous letter lay undisturbed on a hallway floor. The envelope was sealed but unmarked and no address was written upon it.

The mysterious letter was discovered, opened and read aloud to the occupants of the house but what it contained confused the residents. A week or so earlier, their landlady had gone missing and it seemed the letter held the key to working out where she was, however, did the letter actually come from outside the building or was it perhaps placed there by someone living in the home.

Today on Macabre London, we uncover the mystery of Mabel Jennings Edmunds and the Lambeth tragedy.

London's worst executioner was scared of his own axe! Jack Ketch was great at being a butcher but not so great as an executioner. He performed two of the worst executions during the 1600's and his name became synonymous with incompetence. But why was he so awful at his job and who forced him to carry out the profession?
