Macabre London

Here’s a preview of Bad Women: The Blackout Ripper. Over a single week in February 1942, a depraved serial killer stalked London’s dark and WWII bomb-ravaged streets, hunting for victims in the city’s bars and clubs. But the victims of the so-called Blackout Ripper are now all but forgotten. Using new research from police files, court transcripts and exhaustive genealogical studies, season 2 of Hallie Rubenhold’s Bad Women reconstructs the lives of the women The Blackout Ripper brutally attacked and murdered and examines why their deaths were swept from view. Listen to Bad Women at https://podcasts.pushkin.fm/bwblackout?sid=macabre.

Sara or Saartjie Baartman spent her whole life under the rule of people who exploited her at every turn. Trafficked from South Africa her captors originally wanted her to be put on display as a living exhibit at the British Museum but when they refused, she was forced to dance on stage, night after night. As her popularity dwindled, she was forced by her "keepers" into the world of selling her body and from there, things became much worse.

Today on Macabre London, we’ll be uncovering the story of Sara Baartman "The Hottentot Venus"

The last place you'd expect Aliens to want to visit is the Isle of Wight but I can see why it might be an enticing destination for them. It's quiet, secluded and the perfect place to touch down without being noticed. However, two children did just that, spotting perhaps the strangest sighting of an alien being ever recorded. Part clown, part wooden human...all terrifying. but was this an actual visitation from an E.T or maybe there had been consumption of some wild mushrooms which lead to a joint hallucination?

This time on Macabre Mini Mysteries, we uncover the story of Sam, the Sandown clown.

Please check out the @Loremen Podcast podcast which is where I first heard about this story and also @Cool Dudes Walking Club where Marek has an episode all about this subject, going on the hunt for the clown himself.

Ever wondered if a robot could replace you? I experimented with A.I to see if a robot could write a better episode of my History podcast - macabre London - than I could.

I think I'm safe for the time being but I reckon A.I is definitely getting there and maybe in a few years time, all I'll have to do is type the topic in and press write! I don't think it would be the same though.
