Major Slayage: Ket & Arik Rewatch Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Scott and Buffy hit a rough patch – and believe it or not it has NOTHING to do with the fact that she’s got a secret, shirt-averse ex stashed away in a mansion. To get her groove back, Buffy decides to run for Homecoming Queen, and she’s making it everyone’s problem. But Willow and Xander have problems of their own – namely, problems keeping their tongues out of each other’s mouths! And as if that weren’t enough… a vampire from Buffy’s past returns to Sunnydale!

We break it all down for you on this week's Major Slayage.

There was so much to like in this uneven, infuriating, and ultimately disappointing episode. Let's start with the good: Willow & Oz, Feral Angel (or "Ferangel"), Faith fitting in with the gang, Werewolf vs. Monster fight, Vampire vs. Monster fight... The bad: uneven plotting, messy storytelling, lack of Cordelia, ham-fisted handling of sensitive subject matter that felt exploitative...

But luckily, as has been pointed out to us, our show is even MORE entertaining when we aren't fans of the episode being discussed!

We're gonna break it all down for you on this week's Major Slayage.

It's party time at the Summers house! Buffy may be back, but things aren't exactly back to normal. Willow's flakier than breakfast cereal, Angel is even dreamier than usual, and Principal Snyder's genitals are abuzz!

Book Club Pat may not have been a very formidable Monster of the Week, but we like to think the true Monster in this episode was the friends we made along the way.

Buffy's third season kicks things off with a banger episode! The stakes (and production budgets) are higher, the fights are world-class, all the guest stars act their asses off... if this premiere episode is any indication, season three is gonna be one hell of a ride!

Buffy crosses paths with a familiar fungus, Oz pulls a Billy Madison, and Xander & Cordy communicate worse than Ross & Rachel.

We’re not gonna bullshit you — we freakin’ loved this penultimate episode of Season 2 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But fret not, our superpower is the ability to nitpick ANYTHING, so we won’t let you down on that front..

Willow is dating some brand new character we’ve never met before, the vamps get a new statue for their mansion… and has Kendra’s accent actually gotten better, or does it just seem better when compared to another laughably terrible accent in this episode?

The best way we can sum this one up is: Hook, Line, and STINKER!

This filler episode (or should we say "fillet" episode!  hey-o!) never quite reeled us in. A lot of tone deaf joking about SA, and underwhelming fights, and a general lack of urgency & danger made this one feel a little fishy.

Oz has apparently been written off the show at this point, Buffy and Angel don't even acknowledge their last emotionally devastating encounter, and everyone feels bored now — but not in the fun, sociopathic, skinning-a-villain-alive sort of way.

With only two more episodes left this season, it's baffling they chose to put this dead fish story so close to the climax.

On the plus side: Xander in a Speedo, Wentworth Miller, Buffy gets to beat up a would-be grapist.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2 Episode 19 “I Only Have Eyes For You” is a strange one — there is little evidence from their scenes that Xander and Cordy are dating (Xander asking Buffy if she has visions about him "knowing the love of a woman"!?), and the complete lack of Oz is starting to get distracting.

But... what started out as a lightweight, monster-of-the-week episode with an uneven tone (imagine an episode of Goosebumps that happened to include disturbing gun violence and self-unaliving... as well as an O.J. Simpson joke!!!) wound up being one of the most moving, brilliantly written episodes of the season. Did NOT see that coming!
