In this episode we meet Maria Suarez, who was married for 9 years and together for a total of 11 years before their divorce. When she moved cross country to try and disappear the problems of her then marriage. Reality soon set in as life continued to follow them from the East coast to the West. She says “the first six months for me I could explain it as I’ve never cried more in my entire life”. She explains how she came undone when her divorce was becoming final and what that felt like, and what she did during the beginning.
Maria talks about the elephant in the room about the first six months and what came immediately after, which was rock bottom. But, like most of us, when you hit rock bottom there is nowhere to go but up. She explains how without owning her participation in what happened, she was never going to be able to understand the why.
This story is a chance to get a glimpse of what happens when you think you can avoid the pain. You are confronted with the reality that avoiding only delays the future that is waiting for you. It reveals how the life we think is bad is only the groundwork for the good that is to come when you give yourself permission to heal and regroup.
