  • FLOW #50 - The Beggar and The Treasure Story
You're listening to the 50th episode of the Humans 2.0 podcast, solo-series, FLOW! Today's episode is on a story that struck me deeply a few days ago - The Beggar and the Treasure.

This beggar sat on the road for more than thirty years begging for pennies.

One day a man passed by the beggar… “Spare some change?” asked the beggar
.

    The man replied:

”I have nothing to give you, but what is this thing you are sitting on?”

The beggar said: “It’s an old box I’ve been sitting on for a long time,”

“Have you tried opening it to see what is inside?”
 The man asked,
The beggar replied, “Of course not, there is nothing inside, it is empty.”

The man insisted the beggar look inside…
and to his surprise he discovered an abundance of gold and treasure.

The beggar had lived almost his entire life begging for pennies, while he sat on a fortune of treasure.

Looking back at my life I was always searching for myself outside of myself. -

I always had an if and then statement, story, narrative in my mind. -

    If x then y

X usually meant money, people, circumstances, importance, security, family and Y is happiness and fulfillment.

I figured this out over many mistakes and am still in the process of figuring it out today. -

At the age of 15 I luckily stumbled into an extremely successful financial venture. I got all the money I ever wanted in my life. But, the story in my head about myself didn't change. -

While all my friends were chasing degrees and six-figure salaries (which is really their parents love) - chasing the if and then statement I was trying to figure out how life and my mind worked.

This is one of the greatest lessons on deep fulfillment we should be teaching ourselves. -

What did you get out of this?

  • #127 - Steven Kotler | Everything About FLOW Science and The Future
Steven Kotler is a New York Times bestselling author, an award-winning journalist and the co-founder and director of research of the Flow Genome Project. He is one of the world’s leading experts on high performance.

His most recent work, Stealing Fire, was a national bestseller and nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. It documents an underground revolution in peak performance that is rapidly going mainstream, fueling a trillion dollar economy and forcing us to rethink how we lead more satisfying, productive and meaningful lives.

his work was preceded by two books about the technology, Tomorrowland, which is about those maverick innovators who transformed science-fiction ideas into science fact technology, and, Bold, which was called a “visionary roadmap for change,” by president Bill Clinton and spent many months atop both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists.

His previous book, The Rise of Superman, was one of the most talked about books in 2013 and the first book in history to land on the New York Times bestseller lists in the sports, science, psychology, and business categories simultaneously. In Rise, Steven decodes the science of flow, an optimal state of consciousness where we feel our best and perform our best.

Just as Rise explores the upper limits of individual possibility, his book, Abundance, explores the upper limits of societal possibility, breaking down four emerging forces that give humanity the potential to significantly raise global standards of living over the next 20 to 30 years.

Abundance spent 10 weeks atop the New York Times bestseller list and appeared on four prestigious “Best Book of the Year” lists.

A Small, Furry Prayer—Steven’s book about the relationship between humans and animals—was a national bestseller and nominated for a Pulitzer Prize; West of Jesus, which examines the neurobiology of spiritual experience, was a Pen/West finalist; and his bestselling novel, The Angle Quickest For Flight, won the William L. Crawford IAFA Fantasy Award.

Steven’s work have been translated into over 40 languages and appeared in over 100 publications, including The New York Times, Atlantic Monthly, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Wired and TIME. He also appears frequently on television and radio, and lectures widely on human performance, disruptive technology and radical innovation.

Steven is also the cofounder of Creating Equilibrium, a conference/concert/innovation accelerator focused on solving critical environmental challenges, and, alongside his wife, author Joy Nicholson, Steven is the cofounder of Rancho de Chihuahua, a hospice care/special needs care dog sanctuary in the mountains of Northern New Mexico.

He has a BA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and an MA from Johns Hopkins University and, whenever possible, can be found hurling himself down mountains at high speeds.

  • #126 - Jason Prall | Human Longevity Project - World's Healthiest Centenarians
Jason Prall is a Longevity and Optimal Health Practitioner, nationally recognized speaker, host of the You, Optimized. Radio podcast as well as Director, Writer, and Producer of the 9-hour documentary series, The Human Longevity Project, Jason Prall, shares what he's learned from observing five different Blue Zone cultures when it comes to both physical and emotional intelligence, happiness, and wellness.

The Human Longevity Project is an upcoming documentary film series that will take you on an exciting journey around the globe, on a mission to discover the secrets of the longest-lived and healthiest populations on Earth.

Filmed over 2 years, in over 50 locations, in 9 countries, on 3 continents, this film will uncover the key lifestyle, environmental, and physiological components to avoid chronic disease, increase health span, and put the brakes on aging in our modern world.

Featuring interviews from premier scientists, physicians, healers, and health experts – along with real-world footage from around the globe, we examined the daily routines and lifestyle practices that range from preconception to geriatrics, with much more observational and scientific scrutiny than ever before. We will scientifically demonstrate the recipe of a long, healthy life – and how to apply these lessons in our modern environment.

At a time when populations of industrialized societies are seeing collective health, quality of life, and the health of the environment decline rapidly, the scientific information and lifestyle practices highlighted in this documentary are absolutely essential to reversing these recent trends and shifting the entire paradigm of chronic disease and destruction of the environment.

In the last 70 years, the modern world has taken a turn for the worse. Our food, water, air, and soil have been decimated by toxic chemicals and metals. Our atmosphere is blanketed in electromagnetic radiation. Chronic mental and emotional stress has become the norm – and our society is fixated on the technological connection while authentic community dissolves. (*limited time)

  • #125 - Stu Heinecke | How to Get a Meeting with Anyone
A Wall Street Journal cartoonist, hall of fame-nominated marketer and business author, seeks truth and the magic of life in all things he cartoons and writes. Born in Los Angeles, he grew up in the picturesque New England town of Sudbury, then headed west to return to his place of birth to attend USC and begin his career.

As a marketer, he flipped convention on its head by showing how powerful humor can be as a device in advertising, creating countless record-breaking campaigns for many of the world's biggest direct marketers. In How to Get a Meeting with Anyone (2-2016), Heinecke explores a long-hidden form of marketing--dubbed "Contact Marketing" in his book--that has been quietly helping sales people and business owners connect with those who are most critical to their success, with micro-focused "contact campaigns." His other books examine cartoons as marketing devices (Drawing Attention, 3-2011) and feature a collection of his cartoons, as seen in The Wall Street Journal and elsewhere (Big Fat Beautiful Head, 12-2013).

You know how to sell - that's your job, after all - but getting CEOs and other VIPs to call you back is the tricky part.

So what if that impossible-to-reach person weren't so impossible to reach after all?

Hall of fame-nominated marketer and Wall Street Journal cartoonist Stu Heinecke discovered that he could get past traditional gatekeepers and reach those elusive executives by thinking outside the box and using personalized approaches that he calls "contact campaigns". Including presidents, a prime minister, celebrities, countless CEOs, and even the Danish model who later became his wife, Heinecke found that getting meetings with previously unreachable people was easier than ever.

In How to Get a Meeting with Anyone, Heinecke explains how you can use your own creative contact campaigns to get those critical conversations. He divulges methods he's developed after years of experience and from studying the secrets of others who've had similar breakthrough results - results that other marketers considered impossible, with response rates as high as 100 percent; ROI in the tens, even thousands of percent; and costs per contact ranging from $0 to $10,000. Through real-life success stories, Heinecke lays out nearly two dozen categories of contact campaigns that anyone can research and execute. Tactics range from running a contact letter as a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal to unorthodox uses of social media, the phone, email, and snail mail to using his own cartoons to make connections. He also packs in plenty of tips on how to determine your targets, how to develop pitches, and how to gain allies in your contact's circle of influence.

How to Get a Meeting with Anyone provides you with a new toolkit you can put to work for you right away, so you can make the connections that are essential to your success.
