  • Fun Ways To Spend Quality Time With Your Children
How to date your kids one-on-one: questions to ask, cheap date ideas, and why liking your kids matters too

    About This Episode

Aaron and Jennifer Smith were about to welcome their fifth child when they recorded this episode, and with a growing family comes more of a need for quality one-on-one time with each child. The logistics get more complicated, but that should not stop parents from singling out their children to show them they are loved, heard, and known as individuals in the family. In this episode, they share practical ways to get alone time with each of your kids, the questions they like to ask, favorite memories like a bagel on a Maui beach, a list of free and inexpensive date ideas, and why it is so important to cultivate these moments on a regular basis.

    About Aaron & Jennifer Smith

Aaron and Jennifer Smith are the founders of Marriage After God and authors of Husband After God, Wife After God, and Marriage After God. • How A Wife Can Encourage Her Husband To Lead Spiritually
Five practical ways a wife can encourage her husband's spiritual leadership, from Ephesians 5 and 1 Peter 3.

    About This Episode

Some wives in the Marriage After God community asked us to talk about this, and it is so encouraging to know there are wives actively trying to understand how to help their husbands lead their homes. Aaron starts with what Scripture says about headship in Ephesians 5 and 1 Corinthians 11, explaining that a husband's authority is derived from Christ, not from being a man, and that no woman is called to submit to him except his own wife. Jennifer opens up about her own growth in submission, including the school-loan debt and an apology at a sandwich shop. Then we share five practical ways a wife can encourage her husband to lead spiritually, anchored in 1 Peter 3 and the quiet power of godly conduct.

    About Aaron & Jennifer Smith

Aaron and Jennifer Smith are the founders of Marriage After God and authors of Husband After God, Wife After God, and Marriage After God. Married since 2007 and raising six children in Bend, Oregon, they started Husband Revolution and Unveiled Wife to share what God was teaching them, not from a place of having it figured out, but as fellow travelers pointing couples back to Jesus.

    In This Episode

Biblical headship — what Ephesians 5:23 and 1 Corinthians 11:3 teach about order in marriage.
Derived authority — why a husband's authority comes from Christ, not from being a man.
Jennifer's story — growing in submission through school-loan debt and a sandwich-shop apology.
Pray for him — the first and most powerful way to encourage your husband.
Ask him to wash you in the Word — inviting your husband to lead you in Scripture.
Bring him your Bible questions — asking him first before searching it out yourself.
Affirm him — speaking kind, encouraging words over your husband.
Support him in action — living out 1 Peter 3 conduct that wins 'without a word.'

  • Why Suffering Is GOOD For Every Believer
Why 'suffering in the flesh' means telling your flesh no and walking in the Spirit, from 1 Peter 4.

    About This Episode

Suffering is not a popular topic in most churches today, but it is a vital part of every believer's life and cannot be left out of our biblical thinking. Aaron has been teaching systematically through 1 Peter, and in this devotional episode he reaches chapter 4. Alongside Romans 8, he explains that suffering in the flesh means depriving the flesh, telling it no and choosing to walk in the Spirit. We have been freed from the old 'want to do,' and God gives us new desires. Aaron then defines each item on the list in 1 Peter 4:3, showing how every one of them ends in self-worship rather than dying to self and taking up our cross.

Suffering as a believer — why suffering is a universal doctrine for every Christian.
Suffering in the flesh — telling your flesh no and choosing to walk in the Spirit.
Sensuality — not just sexual; living to please all five senses rather than God.
Passions — being controlled by our emotions instead of pleasing God.
Drunkenness — letting a substance remove the restraint God built into us.
Orgies — overindulgence that is never satisfied.
Drinking parties — inviting others into sin, and why godly fellowship matters.
Lawless idolatry — how it all ends in self-worship, the opposite of taking up your cross.

  • It Is Time To Be People Of Our Word
Why New Year's resolutions fail, and how to let your yes be yes and your no be no (Matthew 5:33-37).

    About This Episode

On our 13th anniversary, we look back at what God did in 2019, from the release of Marriage After God to planting a home church with a few couples and starting homeschool. Then we explore New Year's resolutions and why being people of our word matters so much more. Jesus tells us to be people who mean what we say: our yes must be yes and our no must be no. We talk about why resolutions fail when we treat a date as the thing with authority, how real change starts with belief that leads to action, and how not keeping our word can hurt ourselves, our marriage, our kids and others. We also share simple tips for keeping your word this year.

Looking back on 2019 — the Marriage After God book, planting a home church, and starting homeschool.
Let your yes be yes — what Jesus teaches about oaths in Matthew 5:33-37.
Why resolutions fail — treating a date on the calendar as if it has authority.
Belief before change — how real change starts with belief that leads to faith and action.
The cost of broken promises — how not keeping our word affects our spouse, kids and others.
Say it and write it — practical accountability: say it out loud and write it down.
Share it with your spouse — inviting your spouse into your goals.
Small, attainable goals — because if change is always tomorrow, it's never today.

Ten listener questions on in-laws, faith in hard times, parenthood, and finding freedom from pornography.

  • Stop Hiding Before It's Too Late
Why hiding your struggles in plain sight is dangerous, and how walking in the light brings healing.

    About This Episode

Over the years we have received countless messages from couples on the verge of divorce. Some of them we knew personally, and we felt blindsided by the problems in their marriages. How can problems go unseen? You can avoid community altogether, or you can do what we did at the beginning of our marriage: hide in plain sight. We had close friends but never let people truly know us or our struggles. In this episode we talk about how the devil wants us hidden, isolated and ashamed, how pride tells us 'they won't understand,' and why walking in the light brings real fellowship. Our heart is that this would encourage you to stop hiding and remove the fear of being fully known.

Hiding in plain sight — having close friends but never letting anyone truly know you.
Our story — how our first years of marriage looked fine outwardly but were destructive inwardly.
The severed arm — why isolation from the body of Christ kills ministry and prevents healing.
Walking in the light — what 1 John 1 says about fellowship and hiding.
Pride at the root — the lie that 'they won't understand.'
Transparent community — how a marriage ministry group of honest couples changed us.
Confession for healing — opening up to your spouse and others, not just to shed shame.

  • The Lord's Prayer
Jesus gave us a template for how to pray, not just words to recite. A walk through Matthew 6:5-13.

    About This Episode

Prayer is such a vital part of every Christian's life. In this episode we walk through the Lord's Prayer, spoken by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 6. This teaching matters because it shows us the importance of prayer and a personal relationship with God. Jesus was not giving us magic words; it's not what we should pray, it's how we should pray. We talk about praying to God as Father, honoring His name, seeking His will above our own, and forgiveness. Our hearts are that this encourages you to build your prayer life, not for salvation, but to build real intimacy with God. Just like our marriages, intimacy takes intentionality.

A template, not a script — why Jesus taught how to pray, not just what to say.
Praying in secret — avoiding hypocritical, show-off and wordy prayers.
Our Father — the comfort of praying to God as Father, even with a broken earthly dad.
Hallowed be your name — reverencing God's holy name.
Your will be done — seeking God's kingdom and will above our own requests.
Our son's bad dreams — how God may build character rather than just remove discomfort.
Our daily bread — honoring God as our Provider.
Forgive us our debts — pointing others back to God in repentance and forgiveness.
Lead us not into temptation — asking God to lead us so we don't walk into our own temptations.
Teaching kids to pray — passing on a life of prayer to our children.

  • Encouragement for Chasing Boldly After God Together
Ten encouragements for couples chasing after God, from 'don't be afraid' to marriage as your first ministry.

    About This Episode

Everyone needs encouragement and a reminder of the hope they have from time to time. In this episode our goal is to encourage you on your pursuit to chase after God together. We start with the first encouragement: don't be afraid. The enemy wants to make us afraid, but Jeremiah 17:7-8 says the one who trusts in the Lord is like a tree planted by water that does not fear when heat comes. From there we share more encouragements for your journey, including not growing weary, remembering you are not alone, and being faithful with what God has given you today. Listen thoughtfully, share it with your spouse or anyone who could use some cheering, and be excited about God's plan and purpose for you.

Don't be afraid — trusting the Lord like a tree planted by water (Jeremiah 17:7-8).
Don't grow weary — persevering in your pursuit of God.
You are not alone — Christ, the Holy Spirit, your spouse and the body of Christ are with you.
Lean on God's wisdom — rather than relying on your own.
Stick to your financial plan — staying faithful with what God has given you.
Make your plans public — inviting accountability into your goals.
King Asa's reforms — lessons from his religious reform.
Marriage is your first ministry — and hard days are temporary.
Talk often — sharing where you are emotionally and spiritually with your spouse.
One bite at a time — being faithful to what God calls you to today instead of fearing tomorrow.
