  • Your Marriage is Your First Ministry
Your spouse is your closest neighbor, so don't sacrifice your marriage on the altar of ministry

    About This Episode

One of the reasons Aaron and Jennifer started their channel was to help Christian marriages around the world know that marriage is a ministry, and that the first place we practice what the Bible teaches and commands is toward our spouse and our children. When our marriage ministry is thriving, our ministry outside the home becomes more effective. Drawing from a chapter of the book they were writing at the time, they ask whether you recognize your role as a husband or a wife as a ministry. They explain why your spouse is your closest neighbor, what your marriage preaches to a watching world, and why God won't ask you to sacrifice your marriage on the altar of ministry.

    About Aaron & Jennifer Smith

Aaron and Jennifer Smith are the founders of Marriage After God and authors of Husband After God, Wife After God, and Marriage After God. Married since 2007 and raising six children in Bend, Oregon, they started Husband Revolution and Unveiled Wife to share what God was teaching them, not from a place of having it figured out, but as fellow travelers pointing couples back to Jesus.

    In This Episode

Your closest neighbor — why your spouse is the first person you're called to love and serve
Ministry starts at home — the first place we practice what the Bible teaches
The hypocrisy trap — serving others outside the home while neglecting your marriage
Follow my example — could you honestly tell another couple to follow yours?
A picture of the gospel — Ephesians 5 and marriage as a symbol of Christ and the church
Managing your own household — what 1 Timothy 3:5 says about the home and leadership
Don't sacrifice your marriage on the altar of ministry — when to step back from outside ministry

Good fruit — how a thriving marriage makes ministry outside the home more effective

How we paid off $20,000 of student loans in about a year and a half, and seven tips to do it together

    About This Episode

Aaron and Jennifer's heart is that you would be debt free in your marriage, because that freedom makes you freer to minister for God and to do what He has called you to do. In this episode, they share how they paid off $20,000 of student loans in about a year and a half, and the seven simple tips that helped them get out of debt fast and stay debt free. • Are you a liar in your marriage?
White lies, exaggerations, and omissions: what Scripture says about lying and how it breaks trust

    About This Episode

Lying is one of those things that can easily get overlooked, although it affects marriage in big ways. In this episode, Aaron and Jennifer discuss the impact of lying, what Scripture says about it, and personal examples of small lies in their own marriage, from exaggerations to 'I'm right around the corner.' They challenge husbands and wives to evaluate whether they are liars or walking in integrity, including white lies, exaggerations, and omissions. Lying, big or little, causes disunity and distrust in marriage. A marriage after God, and a husband and wife after God, are people of light and integrity, pursuing and cultivating truth in everything they do.

How we became escape artists in early marriage, and why facing trials head-on brought healing

Marriage is hard. We all go through trials and tribulations, and the Bible promises we will encounter hard things in life. Aaron and Jennifer were notoriously great at escaping the issues in their marriage in the beginning, and managed to find every excuse to avoid dealing with their sexual issues and their hearts toward God and each other. God finally got hold of their stubborn hearts and showed them the beauty and healing that can come from facing trials head-on. In this episode they share how they escaped their problems, why hiding only amplifies them, and how they changed and found healing.

  • How To Have A Healthy Biblical Relationship With Your In-laws
Boundaries, being Christlike, and your responsibility to pray for, provide for, and honor your parents

    About This Episode

When we say 'I do,' we are saying yes to the person we have fallen in love with, but that person comes from a family, and part of marriage is learning to respect both sets of family. In-laws and extended family can be a source of contention for couples, and Aaron and Jennifer get asked about it often. In this episode they look at Scripture on the significance of being one in marriage, talk about setting boundaries together, and share how setting boundaries with both sets of parents made their own marriage healthier. Jennifer also shares a dream from their early years in Florida of an umbilical cord still stretching back to California.

  • Our Need for Romance In Marriage (Physical & Emotional)
Why husbands and wives both need physical and emotional romance, plus simple everyday ideas

    About This Episode

Romance is the feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love. It's breaking up the mundane of the day to remind each other that you desire them and are thinking of them, and every marriage needs it. Physical romance includes touch, affection, sex, kissing, and holding hands. Emotional romance is connectedness through communication, becoming known, spending quality time together, listening, laughing, and playing together. In this episode, Aaron and Jennifer explain why we shouldn't assume a husband or wife needs only one form of romance, since both are important for a marriage to thrive, and share practical ways to pursue both continuously.

  • How We Deal With Entertainment And Media In Our Marriage and Home
How we decide which movies, shows, and music we allow, and why we give each other permission to say no.

    About This Episode

We live in an entertainment world, with movies, music, and TV available at any moment. So how do married Christians decide what to watch? And what do you do when your spouse keeps watching a show you don't think they should, or says it doesn't affect them the way it affects you? In this episode we share how we navigate entertainment and media in our marriage and home. We treat it as a conversation of discernment rather than a list of hard rules, and Aaron's walk in purity from pornography has made us especially careful. We also talk through some biblical ways of thinking about what we let in, for ourselves and for our kids.

Discernment over rules — Media choices as an ongoing conversation between husband and wife, not a rigid list.
Purity and what we watch — How Aaron's freedom from pornography shaped our limits on sexual content and nudity.
Knowing when to walk out — Leaving a movie or dropping a show mid-season when it crosses the line.
Dark themes and language — Why we avoid demonic and horror content and constant foul language.
Doing your homework — Using the Plugged In review site to research films before watching.
Permission to say no — Giving your spouse, and God, the freedom to veto anything.
Protecting your kids — Being an advocate for your children and teaching them to guard their eyes.

  • How To Confess Your Sin To Your Spouse
Why your spouse deserves to hear your confession, and how to confess (and receive one) without minimizing.

    About This Episode

Confessing your sin to your spouse will never be easy, but it is essential for a healthy marriage and for growing in your walk with Christ, and it doesn't happen nearly often enough. In this episode Aaron shares from his own experience confessing pornography to Jennifer: because husband and wife are one flesh, your spouse is the one most affected by your private sin, not just an accountability partner. We talk about why confession brings darkness into the light and helps kill the flesh, how to confess honestly without minimizing, and how to trust God with your spouse's response. We also share how to receive a confession well, with forgiveness, self-control, and reconciliation as the goal.

Why confession matters — In a one-flesh marriage, your spouse is the one offended by your private sin.
Darkness into light — How confession exposes sin and helps put the flesh to death.
Remember the cross — Nothing your spouse has done is worse than what we have done against God.
Honesty without minimizing — Why half-truths and downplaying undermine a confession.
Repentance and confession — Why they are two different things, and both matter.
Timing — Choosing a good time without waiting for the perfect one.
Receiving a confession — Creating a safe place, feeling the hurt with self-control, and forgiving.
Reconciliation is the goal — Don't rush your spouse to forgive; trust God with their heart.
