Howdy!

This episode of Married With Horses is with Kristi Schiller. We've known Kristi for 7 or years or so and quickly bonded over barrel racing, our affiliations and affinity for Texas A&M, and many other things. She's an amazing person. She's the founder of the non-profit organization, K9s4Cops. An organization that donates K9's to law enforcement and schools though the United States and various places abroad. In the last 7 years they've confiscated more than $250m in narcotics. She's also the creator of the Diamonds & Dirt Barrel Horse Classic. This event (held again this year in Bryan, TX) is one of the premier futurity and barrel racing events of the year. On top of all that, Kristi and her husband, John (Schiller Ranch), own one of the absolute premier stallions in the barrel racing game in 2019, Epic Leader. We had a lot to talk about and this episode is full of interesting stories. Howdy!

Our guest on the show today was Professional Bareback Rider, JR Vezain. JR has won a million bucks on the back of a bucking horse. He is a 6-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier, 2011 Resistol Rookie of the Year in the Bareback, and all around good dude. In the last weekend of the 2018 PRCA Season, on the way to his 6th Finals, JR broke his back while covering a horse in Pasadena, TX that left him parlayed from the waste down. Since that day, his life has changed. His positive outlook on life has not. He's mindset and strong will are awe inspiring. His attitude in the face of this huge adversity is something we can all learn from. He's been dealt a pretty bad hand, but instead of feeling sorry for himself and letting it defeat him, he's decided to put his nose down, work harder than ever, and attack this with a ferocity of a man who KNOWS he will walk again. It really puts things in perspective. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. I know I needed to hear that. On top of all this, JR and his wife, Shelby, have a little boy due to be here in May. What a wild ride this life can be. This is a great talk. His discussion on mind set and getting in "the zone" is worth the listen alone. (Spoiler alert: the rest is awesome too!) Our last episode of 2018 is with our good friend, Dustin Gersch. Dustin is the creator/owner of Paleo Powder. Not only is he an entrepreneur, he's also a financial planner/adviser with a plethora of suffixes after his name, and an all around great dude. We had a good chat in which he wore both of his proverbial hats. We discussed how he started his seasoning company in his kitchen when trying to find a great rub for BBQ competitions and turned that into a company that is now sold from coast to coast in stores like Wal-Mart, Whole Foods, Sprouts, HEB, Central Market, and many others. We discussed his mindset when he started and where that has evolved today. Of course, we chase squirrels all over the place and rarely focus on one topic. We do manage to get back to the topic of setting goals and planning well for the start of the 2019 and attempt to give a little insight into that before wrapping it up. He was a fantastic guest that had great insight and interesting stories. We begin our discussion the finer points of using the f-bomb. Hope you enjoy.

This episode is with the newly crowned 2018 WPRA World Champion Barrel Racer, Hailey Kinsel. Hailey and her palomino superstar, Sister, just finished up what has got to be the best 2 seasons a barrel racer has ever had winning well over $1million over the last 20months or so. SO SO amazing. What makes this cowgirl amazing though, isn't just the REALLY fast times run in the arena, but the great human being she is outside of it. We're blessed to call Hailey a friend and the barrel racing world is in a good place to have her as our World Champion. As you can expect from this intelligent lady, the conversation was fast paced and fun. We discussed her time in Las Vegas during the finals, her amazing mother who is so instrumental in her success, our needs for a Pizza Sponsorship, and what the future has planned for this champion cowgirl. She remains easy to cheer for and we will continue to do so as her story continues to unfold. Congrats to you Hailey and we wish you all the best going forward!

We hope everyone is having a fantastic holiday season! We're back on this Boxing Day edition of MWH to bring you a conversation with Charlotte Edwards. Charlotte, among other things, is a barrel horse trainer. Another hat she wears is that of a Barrel Futurities of America Board Member. We talk about training colts, discuss some fun stories from horses from the past, and talk a little bit about Charlotte's upbringing in the horse world. We also spend a good bit of time discussing the BFA's move from the Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City to the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK. We know that there's a lot of talk about this topic lately and wanted to discuss a few of the talking points with someone who knew actual information. Granted, like most things, many of the answers raised other questions that will hopefully be discussed and resolved as we move forward. We'll be coming back to you soon with some great new content and look forward to spending all of 2019 with you!
