  • CATFA 108: The Rain Check
Minute 108: From Rain Check to Radio SilenceJoining us, it’s Heidi Bennett from Vibrant Visionaries!
In the one hundred eighth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger...What a sad minute! Well, that’s if you can buy into the fact that Steve can’t figure out any other way out of here, or that Colonel Phillips and his team can’t track the Valkyrie from the HYDRA Base from which they’re currently working. But yes, the romance is great and the tragedy hits you right in your feels. But why does Colonel Phillips stand in the back hallway and just... watch? Like a creeper?
Regardless, it’s a tragi-romantic minute as Steve plungs into the ice. Tune in!

  • CATFA 107: Breaking the Fourth (Romance) Wall
Minute 107: From Plane Plans to Last TalkJoining us, it’s Heidi Bennett from Vibrant Visionaries!
In the one hundred seventh minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger...Cap tries to figure out how to pilot the plane but pretty much decides he’s just going to have to crash her. Whaaaa??? And Colonel Phillips seems okay with this, asking Morita to exit the room with him so Steve and Peggy can have a moment together.
None of this makes a lick of sense. Okay, sure, it’s there for the romance and the tragic end the film has to have, but doesn’t it feel written? It boils down to how much you buy into the love story and can look past things like Steve forgetting he has drop planes he could escape in, or perhaps trying to land the plane on the ice. But it’s romantic, so romance wins I guess, right?
Regardless, we have a blast digging into this minute. Tune in!

  • CATFA 106: Going Into the Melty Zone
Minute 106: From A Red Skull Dissolved to No Safe LandingJoining us, it’s Heidi Bennett from Vibrant Visionaries!
In the one hundred sixth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger...It’s the end of Red Skull! We talk about his faulty logic leading him to pick up the Tesseract, the Bifrost-looking hole in the sky above him, and the blue beam that was everywhere in film around this time. We also chat about Hugo Weaving and our thoughts on him in this role.
Then we get into the Tesseract and it’s apparent new abilities to dissolve through floors. How far is it going to go? Is there a sentient element to it? Was it just really hot? So many questions...
As for Steve and his decision to pilot the plane to avoid New York, well... we have questions here too but are going to save most for tomorrow. We spend a lot of time struggling through this minute, but it makes for a fantastic conversation. Tune in!

  • CATFA 105: I Wish I Had Some Chopsticks!
Minute 105: From Red Monologuing to Blue BeamingJoining us today, we have Ryanne Bennett, Podcast Host and Content Creator, Audio Engineer, Digital Journalist from the Black Girl Nerds Podcast.
In the one hundred fifth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger...Cap and Skull get to the point in their fight where Skull starts essentially monologuing to him. How does it play? And what do we think of the changes that came from the script to the screen? There certainly are some bad lines in the script, but even as-is, Steve doesn’t have any great retorts to Red Skull and that’s a bit disappointing. We do get to talk about Red Skull starting to dissolve though, and that’s exciting. We discuss the opening of the heavens and how there’s a lot of similarity to Raiders of the Lost Ark.
It’s a big minute. Tune in!

  • CATFA 104: Spider-Red Skull
Minute 104: From Knocked Down to Skull on the ProwlJoining us today, we have Ryanne Bennett, Podcast Host and Content Creator, Audio Engineer, Digital Journalist from the Black Girl Nerds Podcast.
In the one hundred fourth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger...Cap and Red Skull go at it and we’re here for it. So much fighting. Is Steve actually trying to kill Red Skull? It seems like he was trying to behead him. Yikes!
What do we think of the fight choreography here? Does it hold up to later MCU films? How about the mid-air fight as the plane drops straight down?
There’s a lot to discuss in this one. Tune in!

Minute 103: From Tesseract Blasts to Mano a ManoJoining us today, we have Ryanne Bennett, Podcast Host and Content Creator, Audio Engineer, Digital Journalist from the Black Girl Nerds Podcast.
In the one hundred third minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger...Steve crashes the drop plane into the back of the Valkyrie, and we notice that the struts look remarkably like Skull’s face. Did he design it that way intentionally? It’s pretty funny either way.
Steve grabs his shield then makes his way into the cockpit. Why does he tiptoe in if he doesn’t see Skull in the pilot chair? How does he not sense where Skull is with his super senses? Is it perhaps because Skull is using his own super powers to control what Steve might sense? It’s all a bit ridiculous but we have a blast discussing it. Tune in!

  • CATFA 102: Put a Beet in a Blender...
Minute 102: From Parasite Leap to Tail StrikeJoining us today, we have Ryanne Bennett, Podcast Host and Content Creator, Audio Engineer, Digital Journalist from the Black Girl Nerds Podcast.
In the one hundred second minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger...We discuss the level of violence in this minute and try to figure out if this is, in fact, the bloodiest minute in the MCU. Is there another instance of this much bloody human carnage? It’s horrifying. And thank goodness Steve isn’t afraid of heights!
We debate why Red Skull starts shooting at him. Did he know Cap made it onto the Valkyrie? Or does he think this is perhaps a rogue pilot and decides to take him down? It’s odd that it’s never shown to us that Red Skull sees that Cap’s on board.
It’s a fun minute to discuss for sure. Tune in!

We talk about the fighting that goes on here, why there are only five pilots, why the fifth pilot even comes over to this side, why they’re allegiant to Hydra, and if they may actually be robots.

Minute 100: From The Kiss to Inside the Belly of the BeastJoining us, we have Nate “Bubbawheat” Withrow from the superhero movie blog Flights, Tights, and Movie Nights and the time loop podcast It's Time to Rewind!
In the one hundredth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger...They finally kiss! But is it a kiss for science? No, it’s romance of course. And we love it. Tommy Lee Jones even gets a great quip. But the real conversation centers around the horrors of people who try hiding in plane wheel wells. Don’t go down that rabbit hole. Horrific stories and images await.

Minute 99: From Spotting the Valkyrie to Peggy Telling Steve to WaitJoining us, we have Nate “Bubbawheat” Withrow from the superhero movie blog Flights, Tights, and Movie Nights and the time loop podcast It's Time to Rewind!
In the ninety-ninth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger...Red Skull pushes the Valkyrie forward and Steve chases after, and it’s a bit of nonsense. Yeah, this is that minute with that terribly CG chain swing that Cap does over the Hydra troops. Plus, it’s speed ramped so the cheesiness is emphasized. But we still have fun with it. And we enjoy the fact that Colonel Phillips and Agent Carter somehow found Schmidt’s Coupe in the back of the tarmac and are chasing after Steve and Red Skull. We chat about the rocket booster button that Phillips pushes, some wonky CG work, and the very fast car.
We’re getting closer to getting Steve onto that plane! Tune in!
