In 2007, Paul Durousseau, known as the Cabbie Killer, was convicted of the 1999 slaying of 24-year old Tyresa Mack and received a sentence of death by lethal injection. After he was arrested in 2003, he was also charged with the murders of six women, two of those were found to be pregnant at the time of their deaths. None of these cases went to trial. In 2017, Durousseau’s death sentence was overturned due to the ruling by the Florida State Supreme Court that any sentence of death which was not unanimously agreed upon by the jury was unconstitutional. When Durousseau was recommended for the death penalty, the jury ruled 10-2 in favor. Since then, he has been awaiting his resentencing.
