One of the most popular questions we get at Mo News is about polling, how it works and why it can be trusted. In today’s edition we speak with the editor-in-chief of Gallup, one of the organizations that does it best. Gallup is nearly 90 years old and conducts polls in 140 countries—representing nearly all of humanity.
Editor-in-Chief, Mohamed Younis, joins Mosh to talk about how the organization polls everyone from women living in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan to dislocated Ukrainians to Americans who no longer pick up their phones. We discuss compelling trends when it comes to the economy, world happiness trends, how Gallup tweaks questions based on cultural norms and which US political polls you should no longer trust.

Is Artificial Intelligence going to change the world for good or should we be freaking out?
Mosheh speaks to Joanna Stern, the senior personal technology columnist at the Wall Street Journal, about what is next for AI, as governments try to figure out how to regulate the fast-evolving technology. She has reported extensively on artificial intelligence, including recently seeing if an AI version of Joanna could fake out colleagues, sources and family members.
Stern is extremely well-sourced and has interviewed prominent CEOs from across Big Tech. We talk about the latest headlines across that world, including the likelihood of a TikTok ban as well as the latest from Meta, Google, Apple and Twitter.
Finally, we also discuss her recent coverage of a new scam where thieves steal your iPhone passcodes.

Only one out of three Americans now trust the news media, putting the US in last place among developed countries according to a new poll. What went wrong, how bad has it gotten and what can be done to reestablish trust between the mainstream media and consumers?
Steve Krakauer has worked at multiple networks and is now an independent journalist. He joins Mosheh to discuss his new book, “Uncovered: How the Media Got Cozy with Power, Abandoned Its Principles, and Lost the People” in our latest episode.

It all comes as the major media outlets have experienced business struggles–trying to maintain audiences and profits in the digital era—making all the issues worse. In this conversation, we also discuss some of our OWN experiences inside national news outlets that expose the bias and the deepening disconnect with the viewer.
