Last episode of season 1 is up! Can you believe it?!
Have you ever felt that immigration stole experiences from you? Especially if emigrating wasn’t necessarily your decision but something that you had to do...?
Today I’m talking with Marcela da Luz le, she is a writer and advocate who is immersed in immigration, social justice and Brazilian culture.
Marcela opened up about difficult topics like identity, what America has stolen from her, her journey of becoming documented and the tough reality of finding true love and dating as an immigrant.
I encourage you to check out Marcela's writing. It is wonderful and will give you a perspective on the struggles and challenges of immigration in the USA. Her blog: http://www.marceladaluzle.com

(No no estoy llorando)
Y ojo!

How much do you struggle with bilingualism? Do you want your kids to speak multiple languages? Did you grew up in a home with the rule of “en la casa se habla español?”
Today we have an special episode with Veronica Villa, teacher, literacy consultant and blogger of @nene_bilingue
Vero shared her parent's immigration journey and how it shaped her to become who she is today and why bilingualism is so important for her and her family.
We discussed:
What Chicano means.
How to teach Spanish or more than one language at home.
How early in life its recommended to start learning a new language.
3 main benefits of being bilingual.
Bonus: Tips for parents for homeschooling.
As we prepared to release Veros episode we discussed how she came to become bilingual. She responded that “my dad was the reason why I’m bilingual because if I didn't become bilingual I wouldn’t have been able to communicate with him." This sentiment was extremely powerful as her father had very recently passed away. This weeks special episode is dedicated to Vero's father, and the many other immigrant parents that have helped shape us as Modern Immigrants.

Do you ever get angry when people stereotype you without giving you the chance to know you? Have you ever thought that maybe it is not a personal attack but just a sign of ignorance?
Luis helped me realized that getting mad or angry is not necessarily helpful, although I get it, it can be so frustrating! In today’s episode we talk about how can we all start to educate others with our example, showing to the world who we really are, beyond those stereotypes.
Today Luis Duque is sharing his journey and challenges as well as some creative ways on how to overcome those difficult moments.
Luis moved to the USA from Colombia with the amazing opportunity to play tennis and go to college.
We also talked about Luis' podcast "Engineering our Future" where he empowers young professionals by sharing real stories of success and failures.

My guest never got the opportunity to miss the country where she was born.
They were no memories from Santo Domingo. Her family emigrated to the USA to start a new life when she was little. Katalina’s biggest struggle as an immigrant has been the language, especially reading and writing. We definitely have something in common!
Even thought she was a kid when she moved to the USA, picking up the language wasn’t easy but it didn’t stop her.
Today, Katalina is a writer and she shares in this interview how literature has given her a reason to believe in herself and her talent as a storyteller.
Get ready to feel inspired by Katalina's journey and learn how to turn your flaws into your biggest strengths.

My guest this week is a dreamer. Yes, that's right, she is a DACA recipient but the term 'dreamer' goes perfectly with her story. Hanna finds opportunities in each obstacle and she hasn't stopped dreaming, regardless of her circumstances.
Today we are talking about her journey to the USA from Mexico as a kid, the challenges of being undocumented, and the impact and stigma that being called illegal can have on someone's life.
We also discuss the recent BLM protests that took place in Portland, Oregon, where she lives. We talk about the impact that attending the protest can have for undocumented people as well as some options on how to take actions in a way that feels safe.
Hanna shares a message for people who can vote, about the importance of their decisions that effect other lives of people in the USA.
