‘It's a reminder of the glory days when Madiba strode the globe. Not because he was powerful, but because he was a great example of the importance of character and of the importance of values and the importance of democracy and as a way to avoid conflict,’ says Professor John Stremlau, visiting professor of international relations at Wits University.
‘We know that it’s a lot of money, but the exact details of the expenses we don’t know. I think in terms of open procurement, that’s something that taxpayers need to know in terms of what happened to their money,’ says Dr Marlise Richter, senior researcher at Health Justice Initiative (HJI).
‘One of the big advantages of hydrogen, and I feel very strongly about it, is that hydrogen is something that any country can produce. A country where there is wind or solar or even hydropower can actually produce their own hydrogen,’ says Andries van der Linde, renewable energy head at Siyakhula Sonke Empowerment Corporation.
‘People are using them to scam individuals by saying that their relatives are being hijacked or they've been held ransom and getting people to pay ransoms for their release. We've seen a few instances of that,’ says Stephen Osler, Nclose co-founder and business director.
‘We don't have a problem with the upholding of safety on the road and ensuring that vehicles that are contrary to that are impounded, but it has to be done in accordance with the law. That's the basis of our argument,’ says South African National Taxi Council spokesperson, Rebecca Phala.
