On Monday when residents were first handed their eviction notices, Niki Reitmayer spoke to a woman at the camp named Yesterday. It was a very emotional conversation that gave a lot of insight into why people are choosing to camp at Oppenheimer Park instead of living in an SRO. If you missed it, here is what happened:

After that conversation aired on Monday, several CKNW listeners reached out to the Jon McComb Show wanting to help that woman. One listener has offered her used cellphone as a donation. Another woman, Carol Bullock from Cloverdale, donated two backpacks with supplies inside. Niki Reitmayer drove out to Surrey yesterday to pick-up her donation and to ask Carol why she was inspired to help:

Trans Mountain restarts construction on pipeline expansion

Trans Mountain has issued ‘Notice to Proceed’ directives to some of its prime construction contractors, triggering mobilization of the initial workforce needed to build the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. 

This gives contractors 30 days to mobilize equipment, hire the workers, and hammer out  detailed construction plans.

Mother of woman killed in car crash wants other young people to sign-up as organ donors

Earlier this month, 23-year-old Madeline Stroup died in hospital after a car crash. On Friday, her family received word from B.C. Transplant that her organs were used to save the lives of five others.

Now, Madeline’s mother is encouraging other young people to consider signing up to become organ donors.

The deadline is only a few hours away for those camped out in Vancouver's Oppenheimer Park to pack up and leave.

City staff is helping many to make the move into shelters or SRO's and it's not easy going in this wet weather. 

If some are still in the park when the 6 pm deadline comes and goes, City councillor Pete Fry has told Global News an assessment will be made at the end of the day or tomorrow - but police won't be immediately moving in.
