6pm Wednesday - that's the deadline the General Manager of the Vancouver Park Board has given the 200 homeless people camping out in Oppenheimer Park on the Downtown Eastside, to get out.

BC Housing says it has more than 100 units of safe, stable housing available.

In a news release, the City says the safety of those in the park is key, and there have been 17 fires there since February.

Yesterday House is living in a tent at Oppenheimer Park with her husband. She has been there for over three weeks and says she was forced out of an SRO due to unlivable and dangerous conditions. Yesterday told Niki Reitmayer that two unidentified women - likely volunteers or social workers - told her they’d find her help...but she hasn’t seen them in weeks:

21 year old Dave Schmida from Sturbridge, Massachusetts

21 year old Dave learned the hard way that fireworks are probably not the best way to deal with a hornets’ nest.

Dave says he was trying to remove hornets high up on his family’s home on Monday when a corner of the roof caught on fire.

The Telegram and Gazette reports Dave first used a more traditional method, spraying the nest with Raid, a pesticide spray.

When that didn’t work, Schmida went the unconventional method of using a Roman candle to handle the wasps.

A video of the incident shows the nest immediately go up in flames, along with the eaves.

Dave managed to put the fire out, and according to him the damage was minimal

He went from fixing cars to fixing people.

After spending years as a mechanic, Carl Allamby graduated from medical school this year at age 47 and is now an emergency medicine resident at the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital.

Questions are lingering as to why the chief of staff to B.C. Speaker Darryl Plecas, Alan Mullen, spent more than $13,000 in taxpayer money to travel to 10 different provincial capitals and state legislatures.

Mullen went to government buildings in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington — all to discuss security at those buildings.

Abbotsford Police reporting an uptick in the numbers of young people joining gangs

Officers with the Abbotsford Police are out with a report on a disturbing criminal trend. In a recent news release, the police say they've noticed a recent  increase of youth joining gangs. They say drug dealers are using "New" drivers to chauffeur them around as they conduct their drug trafficking business, and in most cases, the young drivers are using cars registered to their parents.

Greenland asserts that it is not for sale after U.S. President Trump muses about purchasing the country

The government of Greenland says it's happy that US President, Donald Trump, has taken an interest, but it's not for sale.

Following reports that Trump had spoken about the notion of buying Greenland, the semi-autonomous Danish territory issued a short statement today to clarify it isn't on the market.

A Trump ally told The Associated Press yesterday that the president had discussed the purchase but was not serious about it.

However, a Republican congressional aide says Trump brought up the notion enough times to make lawmakers wonder.

Man stabbed to death outside Semiahmoo Shopping Centre in South Surrey

There has been another murder in Surrey - and now a man is in police custody.

When RCMP were called to the Semiahmoo Shopping Centre at 152nd Street and 18th Avenue shortly before 3am, they found a man suffering from apparent stab wounds.

He later died and police say it does NOT appear to have been a random act.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is now leading the case.

June was the lowest month for fatal overdoses in B.C. since Sept. 2016

Statistics on illicit drug deaths in June released by the BC Coroners Service on Friday show a significant drop in fatalities over June of last year.

According to the service, there were 73 suspected illicit drug deaths in June 2019, the fewest of any month since September 2016. That number is down 35 per cent from June 2018, and down 15 per cent from May of this year.
