As Canadians age, struggles over access to health care extend to prescription drugs

As the federal government’s Advisory Council on the Implementation of National Pharmacare calls for a universal, single-payer system for prescription drug coverage in Canada, a new report from the non-profit Angus Reid Institute – part of its ongoing series on access to and perceptions of health care among those ages 55 and older – finds a significant number of Canadians this age struggling to afford prescription medications.

Onion Lake Cree Nation member delivers petition demanding Trudeau enforce First Nations transparency law 

Yesterday, First Nations activist Charmaine Stick and the Canadian Taxpayers Federation delivered 30,000 petition signatures to the Prime Minister’s Office calling on the federal government to enforce the First Nations Financial Transparency Act.

Chapter 6

Teen dies after being found in critical condition at Walnut Grove skate park

A 14-year-old boy has died after he was found in critical condition at the Walnut Grove Skate in Langley Wednesday night. The park is adjacent to the Walnut Grove Community Centre at 88 Avenue and Walnut Grove Drive. The BC Coroners Service says the boy died “suddenly and unexpectedly.”

Carl Honore shares how you can making the most of our longer lives

A revolution in how we age is on its way. Yes, ageing is inevitable: one year from now we will all be a year older; that will never change. What can and will change is how we age--and how we can all take a much bolder approach to doing it with vigour and joy.

The time has come to cast off prejudices and to blur the lines of what is possible and permissible at every stage of life. In other words: we need to learn to re-imagine our approach to later life. Emboldening ourselves in older age demands big structural changes. For a start, we will have to tear up the old script that locks us into devoting the early part of our life to education, the middle chunk to working and raising kids, and whatever is left over at the end to leisure. In an age-inappropriate world, these silos will dissolve. We'll embrace the idea that we can carry on learning from start to finish; that we can work less and devote more time to family, leisure, and giving back to our communities in our middle years; and that we can remain active and engaged in our later years.

Carl Honoré has travelled the globe speaking to influential figures who are bucking preconceived notions of age, whether at work or in their personal lives. He looks at the cultural, medical, and technological developments that are opening new possibilities for us all. Leonard will be spending time in jail after he was caught on camera standing in his sunroof while he was driving on Interstate 4 on Tuesday afternoon.

Cleveland Browns rookie-receiver Damon Sheehy- Guiseppi

Cleveland Browns rookie receiver Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi scored his first NFL touchdown on an 86-yard punt return.

His teammates cleared the benches and joined him in the end zone to celebrate.

What makes this touchdown so unique is the story behind it… 

Sheehy-Guiseppi's journey to the NFL  involved finagling his way into a workout by claiming to know Alonzo Highsmith, the vice president of player personnel, and sleeping anywhere he could for a week.

When the time for his tryout came, it resulted in him becoming a member of the Browns on April 5.

Sheehy-Guiseppi may still be marked as a wild card to make the final roster, but he'll be running with every opportunity in the meantime.
