    Should have let Barnes live.
Overall the story is fine, it has its own tragic parts, the tunnel scenes were a bit too long, and this story rests on the idea of revelations and confrontations being its spine. Just...I wish there were more characters to like. Barnes was one of the ones who took a 180 arc, and grew as a character. I only care for Oystein through B. I hope Goddess knocks this one out of the park. And I hope for some good scenes with Holy Moly.
Overall I am taking a star off from an average 3 star review. Because he really didnt need to kill Barnes. He really didn't.
    Gruesomely awesome series
I love all of Darren Shan's novels. They are very descriptive and violently played out. I feel like i've really bonded with the characters in this series. The only complaint i have is how short each book is. Im so bummed out every time i finish one. No matter what I'm reading, whenever i see a new installment to this series added to my kindle library, i drop it immediately to pick up the next book in this series. 5 star read!!
    Shan has done it again
The continuing adventures of Becky Smith is riveting. Just when you think all hope is lost, Shan throws in a twist and leaves the reader craving more. I can't wait for the next volume. Enjoy the continuing saga and tell your friends.
    Sweet & To the Point!
Becky has escaped and about to learn some shocking news! Talk about CLIFFHANGERS!!!! Def one of the most enjoyable part of this book was the creepy baby. Love Darren Shan's stories, never disappoint.
    Amazing read 10/10
It's the best series I've read in a while Shan only makes masterpieces
For sure great read I promise !

    rip off!!
This is not the whole story! It only gets halfway through where the movie gets! I am frustrated that that is not made clear before purchase!
    Wack
Wack. sounds like they recorded it in a closet. no added FX and there was no attempt at good character voicing. It was really just read.

    Publisher's Summary:
The stunning conclusion to the Portal Wars trilogy.
Jake Taylor and his cyborg soldiers have fought their way from one Portal planet to another, moving steadily homeward with one goal in mind - the utter destruction of the corrupt rulers who sent them to hell to fight and die as pawns in a dishonest war, one started not by the alien enemy, but by Earth's own government, as a tool in its plot to seize total power.
And now, after the fighting, the suffering, the bitter losses; finally, it is time. Time for the final invasion of Earth. Time to liberate their homeland from the totalitarian government that controls it utterly, to find those responsible for all that has happened, and to kill them all.
Jake and his warriors are hopelessly outnumbered, but they are determined to battle to the last, to sacrifice all for any hope of victory, however small. But Taylor and his soldiers are not alone in their fight, for in Earth's shadows, in the rotting slums and the remote countryside, in dark corners and crumbling cellars, a spark of defiance has survived and grown, men and women who remember liberty, and are willing to die for the chance to regain what they lost a generation before. They are preparing, and waiting. Waiting for the chance to strike a blow for freedom.
But those who cling to power will not give it up easily. Indeed, the politicians who run UNGov will see Earth a charred ruin, the dead lying in unburied heaps before they will yield their positions. The battle is about to begin, and it will not end until only one side remains.
Is Jake Taylor willing to go all the way, to fight to the end, do whatever he must, to accept nothing less than death or total victory, whatever the cost?

    Great Story and Narration
Excellent story, and action. Noticed a few comments on something being missed on editing, believe these have been addressed. Perhaps this was on an earlier version.
    Draft?
Starting at chpt 23, the narration goes to "draft mode" repeating sections, coughs, narrater blowing his nose, etc. I couldnt finish it.
    Enjoyed it !
Where does Homefront rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Nicely completed sci-fi trilogy. If you liked the first two books, this one is a must-have in your collection. I didnt find any major plot holes or inconsistency in the storyline and there are many interesting twists and exciting space action scenes. I could totally imagine this audiobook trilogy as a movie saga one day. It has that potential! Also the narration is fixed, so there are no more unedited parts or audio errors.
    A good continuation (Audio errors Chap 21 - 23)
What three words best describe Liam Owens voice?
    One of my favorite narrator's
    Any additional comments?
Between chapters 21 and 23 there are many audio errors, it actually sounds like audio attempts from recording, you will here the narrator repeat a sentence several times in different tones presumably it all should have been cut out.
It actually goes to show the amount of time and effort Liam Owen puts into his narrating jobs, Liam Owen is still one of favorite narrator's, I'm sure it was just an honest mistake by the audio editors.
    One in three
This series would have made one decent book. The other two thirds was repetition and exposition that could have been cut.
The performance was blah and the narrator has problems pronouncing words correctly.

Title: Koban Universe 2: Have Genes, Will Travel
    Author: Stephen W Bennett
    Narrator: Eric Michael Summerer
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 14 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher: Stephen W Bennett
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 410 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
This novel is derived from the Koban Series, but isn't an extension of that. It can be listened to as a standalone novel, because how the Kobani human variant came to exist is explained in a short description in the front (skip that if you know). Then a prologue propels you into this sci-fi cowboy in space story.
For over a hundred years, Chisholm, a Rim World colony, has produced beef for most of Human Space, raising vast herds of a breed of Giant Longhorns. Things are changing, and land reform is demanded by small ranchers and farmers, placing restrictions on the existing open range policy. The wealthy large ranchers will stop this, any way they can, to preserve their profits. Passions are high and the opposing sides have turned violent.
Ethan, a gene-modified Kobani, travels to Chisholm with his sister, Kit, seeking a high-risk employment opportunity in the growing Range War, where raids and murders have wiped out entire families. Gunmen and killers are in demand by both sides, with premiums paid for greater lethality, so using their contact telepathic ability, Ethan and his deadly sister Kit, chose a side. They'll face a hundred hired guns, the outcome deciding who will control the future of Chisholm. Powerful men are determined to block reforms by driving off or killing those opposed to them, and adamant reformers will meet violence with violence.
Hired by one side in the conflict, an unexpected betrayal strikes down Ethan, and he vanishes. Kit goes on a rampage, terrorizing anyone with knowledge, to discover what happened to him, and dismembered bodies accumulate as she searches for her brother. Knowing telepathically exactly what evil an individual has committed isn't admissible in courts there, or heeded by corrupt sheriffs. However, possessing the truth is ample motivation for ignoring the law to Kit, and she summons help from home. In a final bloody confrontation, with deaths on both sides, a solution that only those from Koban could produce is achieved.

Kobani in the Wild Wild West . . . with Rippers!
Chisholm is a Rim planet where filthy rich cattle barons and poor struggling sheep herds are having a range war. It's a familiar western movie trope: The cattle barons have large herds and don't want to share the grazing land. They've employed some pretty viscious gunmen to take out the competition, and since they control the sheriff and the judges, they are able to get away with murder.
The smaller cattle outfits and the sheep farmers have had enough when they start shooting people in the back and burning down their homes, and decided to hire some help. They get together and answer an ad for a Kobani business called Have Genes, Will Travel.
Nathan and Kit decide to answer the call for help, and head for Chisholm, where they are met at the landing pad by a group of killers. Of course, they manage to impress the killers with their unusual skills. The wealthy cattle barons then attempt to hire Nathan and Kit for their side, but when they fail, decide to have them ambushed and killed instead.
Clearly, they don't know who they're dealing with!
This is a great story with the kind of storyline you would expect in an old western movie -- complete with a beautiful madam -- but with all the modern sci fi elements you expect from Steve Bennett.

    Author: Steve Toutonghi
    Narrator: Piter Marek

Length: 9 hrs and 57 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-19-16
    Publisher: Recorded Books

    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
What if you could live multiple lives simultaneously, have constant, perfect companionship, and never die? In the tradition of classic speculative fiction from David Mitchell and Philip K Dick, Join is a literary sci-fi thriller that brings to life the "future of the mind" in which humans can merge consciousnesses to form permanent "Joins", expanding life and consciousness - but at what cost?
In an alternate near future, Join allows for the fusing of several minds into a single consciousness with multiple bodies. But best friends Lucky and Leap encounter a terrifying malfunction in the Join technology and discover that the light of this miracle technology may be blinding them to its horrors. As they move into the heart of the new North America, devastated by environmental ruin, they meet the architects of a new kind of human consciousness, and their trust in each other becomes their only guide through the moral hazards of a society in which individual identity has come undone, and a sadistic killer with dozens of identities follows them in relentless pursuit.
Literary sci-fi that poses major philosophical questions while possessing the same propulsive quality of Mort(e) and the work of Philip K. Dick. An unconventional narrative flow shifts between the various consciousnesses of each character, settling into a nice rhythm while keeping listeners on their toes.

    Kind of disappointed
I thought the concept was really interesting and could've been engaging, but the execution of it left a little to be desired.
All of the joins felt, personality-wise, the same to me. Even the ones that were supposedly "crazy" had this same moderate tone. I got the feeling that it was bc it was assumed that joining with other people would kind of polish the sharp edges of people or something. But what about personality traits that would be compounded when joining? It felt like, because there were so many personalities in one join, every join had no personality. Along the same lines, joins where different criteria for joining weren't really explored fully. They were mentioned, but not really focused on.
I felt as though the book focused on one of the least interesting topics in this world. I'm not saying that it wasn't important for a deeper understanding of these characters and setting, but it could have been woven into a larger, more interesting story. I also didn't love some of the stylistic choices of the author- the timeline and the order that information was revealed to us seemed disjointed at times and could take me out of the story.

    Awesome!...but waiting on book 4???
It seems like this series has been forgotten! There are more in the series but waiting for book 4 is like waiting for it to rain! Please complete the series...
    great story line!
Great book! The Captain matured and it's ending was very unexpected and appreciated. Looking forward to the next book.
    Short
    Any additional comments?
Enjoyed his story line. Seemed more like a chapter than another episode in a saga. I had hoped for more considering the price.
    A good listen
This series keeps getting better, although I do wonder at the lack of judgement of the captain, Jake!
That said, I listened to this in one sitting and my one comment to the author is: Write more quickly, please as I can't wait for the next instalment.
    Fab 3rd book
So I have to admit, I was kinda disappointed in the length of this, but only because there were plot lines not tied in. I am guessing with a huge world like this it's always going to be the case, where we're all waiting on the next one. Now I totally know what being a fan is like, haha thanks guys. I'm defo hooked and can't wait for the next.
    Story and some spoilers!
The audio, kicks off after their escape from Admiral Trajan, and lands them out of one fire into another. At least this one goes down well and it seems they backed the right side too. Always a bonus.
Greg does a wonderful job here of playing the Oberon, their accents are just awesome and it greatly enhances the sheer vastness of this series and the scope that Nick Webb has at his writing disposal.
What I really do love about a series like this is seeing the characters change and grow, and there were some fabulous moments in here. Not in any order as that is how I remember them.
The biggest moments for me in here, were - knowing something was going to happen at the opera house. Seeing those bikes, feeling Jake's gut instinct. And of course it had to be Po this time, can't leave her out of all the trouble and mess can ya. So my hero gal's been kidnapped and it's like all hell breaks loose as heading back to the ship the 51st brigade have taken over the ship! omg... what a nightmare.
Captain Brand is also really in the thick of it against the Vikeron, thank goodness he had Al on the ship to work out how to break down their defences! good on him, what a genius!
Jake, Ben, and Anya do a great job in working together with Captain Brand, and his merry band of fighters. Alongside the internal workings from Lt, Aialla (sp) they manage to get on board and meet up and talk their way into the bridge.
I am so so glad that Senator Galba was found out, and totally can see why Jake needs him alive for the next few books. :)
Another moment that got me was at the end.

    Publisher's Summary:
Alternate history master Eric Flint returns in top form with an epic addition to the multiple New York Times best-selling Ring of Fire series.
After carving a place for itself among the struggling powers of 17th-century Western Europe, the "out-of-time" modern town of Grantville, West Virginia, must fight for its life against Dark Age domination.
A cosmic accident sets the modern town of Grantville, West Virginia, down in war-torn 17th century Europe, and a new nation is forged. Now, when United States of Europe ally King Gustavas of Sweden invades Poland, the US of E is dragged into a full-scale European war against ruthless opponents. Meanwhile Mike Stearns, wily and courageous leader of the up-time West Virginians, has been turned out of office in an election. But, like Churchill before (and after) him, Stearns is not done yet. He's determined to stoke the fires of democratic rebellion in Saxony near the main front and thus keep the young nation he founded, and once led, out of the hands of medieval tyrants - tyrants who would like nothing better than to wipe those troublesome upstarts from the future off the time line and go back to the bad old days of oppression and serfdom.

    The most boring book ever
This author needs to take a course on alternative history from someone like Harry Turtledove. The performance was okay though I usually find this particular reader much better. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
    goid
I liked that it was split up into two separate books. was good story. ok
    neurology mistakes
Aphasia is caused by a left hemisphere lesion. 98% of right handers are left hemisphere dominant , Left handed are left hemisphere dominant, mixed dominant, only very few people are truly Rt hemisphere dominant. The seizure is a partial seizure with secondary generalization.
    Awful narrator
Great story, much enjoyed. Narrator nearly ruins it though. Sounds like a monotone old man...while I admire his ability to correctly pronounce words in German and Polish, among others, I wish he didn't put me to sleep doing so. Not joking- I've actually been listening to it before bed on a sleep timer just to get through it.
    Disappointing
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Too many characters, too many war strategies and campaigns. I lost all sense of the story and after 4 hours gave up.
Would you ever listen to anything by Eric Flint again?
    Never!!!!!!!!!!!!
What didnt you like about George Guidalls performance?
Voce and performance were good just destroyed by the poor story.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Great disappointment. First audible book I have bought that was such a disappointment and waste of time.

Great story with a comic book feel
A review copy of this book was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I have a weakness for superhero stories that portray a superheros personal life instead of focusing just on the hero while relegating their family to the background. Youd think that their familial relationships would be some of the most important and intricate relationships in their lives, and often, its rarely touched on or touched on in a way that supports only whatever the hero has going on. These relationships have to be some of the most complicated relationships that heroes have, and this books explores this in its own way. Spencer is a likable, sarcastic kid (and just like a kid he can get really annoying at times), and while he may not have powers, he has skills that are handy, showing that a hero doesnt always have to have godlike powers to be useful. Spencers father does seem to truly care for his son, but his work has left him distant and controlling, and it felt perfectly understandable that Spencer would resent his father, especially in the wake of his mothers abduction. Situations like that bring about tough questions such as why can his father save others but could not save the most important person in their lives?
This book was infused with humor, angst, and action. Spencer is pulled in deeper and deeper into his fathers world and learns that things arent so simple as he once thought they were. Theres something always going on in this book, but it does manage to still give readers a good sense of the characters and various relationships are explored throughout the book aside from Spencer and his familys. This book takes time to process emotions and thoughts rather than skimming over them, and it really capitalizes on Spencer finding personal strength. The book is told from other point-of-views aside from Spencers, but Spencers story is told from first person where the others are not. This may be jarring from some readers, but regardless, the other sections are well-written and absorbing. Spencer can read a little younger than he is. This feels like a coming of age story, but I would think that maybe Spencer is a little too old for that categorization. Then again, we can all hit a late spurt.
The narration didnt work for me. Mitchell Lucas wasnt a bad narrator, but I found him to be a bit monotonous.

    Enjoyable
The sequel to The Choosing was as good as the first. Which also means that I also wish that the message, the metaphor of Aaron representing Jesus was a little different. Faith is more than just accepting that you are a child of God and loved no matter what. While this is true, there is more to it. It requires a death, the death of your old self, and repentance, repentance from your sinful nature. You need to get on your knees and beg for forgiveness and accept the gift of Salvation Jesus offers. Then, He will fill you with all the light and love He has to offer. There is no message or repentance in these books. And I wish there was.
    Who the heck is Aaron?
    Looked the 1st book!!!
Great idea for a book! The 2nd book dragged on for me.
Don't like the uncertainty of Aaron's identity. Who the heck is Aaron? How can he just be in dreams and in places that are heavily secure and not be detected? Is he an angel? And if so why dont we know? If he is NOT an angel is he Jesus? He cant be Jesus Christ my Lord because he claims he can NOT SAVE anyone. I was really confused.
And, in the story, he's supposed to be speaking Truth. But he always spoke in riddles. Jesus didnt always talk in riddles. Sometimes, Jesus would say, Go and sin no more Sometimes Jesus would kill a tree just to get a point across.
It was even more confusing how the community would mention god. Aaron never said 'God', but he did talk about the Father. This could be very confusing for a new Christian.
Aaron often spoke of things like finding your true worth, overcoming insecurity. Which is a beautiful message but what the heck is he talking about when he would mention the power within oneself If Aaron is refereeing to the Holy Spirit inside of us then it was not clear. AGAIN if I was a baby Christian I would have MORE questions than answers. It felt like Aaron was some kind of worldly hippy trying to be profound.
    Amazing
This book is so lovely and it's helped me to remember my identity and what my Father thinks of me. It helped me to let go and surrender my fear.
good reading of a good book.
Good story with drama, action. and a spiritual backbone. leaves you teddy to start the next.

Slow to start and good in hindsight
What did you like best about Erebus? What did you like least?
First, the positive. I greatly enjoyed the direction of the story and how it will come to play in the third book in this series. The story added good background and detail to help flesh out this particular universe.
Now, the negative. I'm not typically a fan of a series that begins with one set of characters, which are then replaced in the sequel by an entirely different set of characters with a plotline that seems unrelated until near the end of the sequel. After finishing Erebus I can appreciate why this book was written in this manner (see the positive), but I must admit that I had to resist putting the story down on numerous occasions. It didnt help that the narrator changed between Endeavour (Book 1 Michael Kramer narrating) and Erebus (Book 2 Shaun Grindell narrating) and in my view, Shaun Grindell simply didnt deliver. Not that he is not a good narrator, but that Michael Kramer operates in an entirely different league.
Would you be willing to try another one of Shaun Grindells performances?
Only if he narrates that entire series.
Did Erebus inspire you to do anything?
It did! I built my own anti-matter torch and I'm currently accelerating towards C while writing this review from the future.
    Almost a Stand Alone
It's a good read, but quite different from the 1st novel in the series... W/ relatively few exceptions this can be read as a solo novel and you won't miss much by not having read the predecessor... The exception being the ending where this novel ties in w/ the previous... The story is a good one, if a bit slow in the beginning... Once it gets going it moves well w/ some deft plotting and action... In essence this is a mystery/crime work w/ SF flavoring... The characters are not integral to enjoymen... Which is good since there is only one or two of significance, and those two are intriguing... Trent is the main character pretty throughout, and this book could have easily been called Trent's Tale... The other, less interwoven, character is Xander Frane, the bad guy, or is he?? Won't spoil, but it's a tricky question... The science is well considered, and the police procedural style to the mystery and its investigation is top notch... Great climax, and an entirely unexpected ending setting up what looks to be a fantastic 3rd book... The narration is good, if a bit uninspired... Should have stuck w/ Michael Kramer from the 1st book... Overall a very satisfying read w/ tantalizing speculation... Even the seeming opacity works well in hooking you into the story arc...
