  • Running is kind of addictive - With Carolane Pitre # 158
What a fantastic talk we had with Carolane Pitre. Originally from Quebec and now living in Halifax, this young lady has been through a lot and will not give up. Her determination, drive, and personality will not allow her to stop. The one time she did haunted her so much that she had to duplicate the event to make amends. Running, swimming and biking keep Carolane motivated, put all three together and it's a dream come true. We asked Carolane about her cycling accident and how long it took to recover. Carolane was back on the bike as soon as she was physically able. As always on Motivate to Move, it's wonderful to see people motivated to keep on moving and not let anything get in their way. Great job Carolane, we can't wait to see what is next for you.

  • We Believe and Empowered to Ride - With Dan and Caleb Foote and Wyatt Macquarrie-milco #157
We had a wonderful interview with all three of our guests Dan Foote his son Caleb Foote and one of their instructors Wyatt Macquarrie-milco. The charity We Believe last held in 2023 in Saint John brought over 8 thousand educators, students, and speakers together simultaneously. The message was simple, encouraging youth to be the Change. Some of the issues on the table were mental and physical health, volunteering, bullying, self-worth, and how each of us can better the world. This event was live streamed all over the world and 2025 will be even bigger and better. Tickets for the event are free and all the links will be below in the notes so check it out.
Empowered to Ride is another program, instructors Caleb Foote and his good friend Wyatt are helping kids get on donated and bought mountain bikes and go riding through the trails. Inspiring our kids to stay active and get outdoors. Now they have 10 bikes and the demand for children taking this course is high so why don't we help these guys get more bikes to help more kids? links are below. This is a great story and one that we hope others will hear and support. Invest in our kid's future.

  • Speaking with the specialist - With Graham Black #156
Tonight our very special guest is Graham Black, a native of Montreal who has lived in Moncton for the past 24 years. Graduated from Concordia University, with a degree in Sports Medicine as a Certified Athletic Therapist and Strength and Conditioning Specialist with over 25 years of experience in both fields. Graham is also the athletic Therapist for our Moncton Wildcats and is currently Co-owner of Sportmed Max in Dieppe. A former guest that we enjoy having on, Michael Roy, suggested making an appointment to see Graham and I am very glad I did. We discuss the difference between a Physiotherapist and an Athletic Therapist and some of the common injuries that Graham sees. Graham surprises us with something he is seeing more often, I didn't have this on my radar at all but makes sense when you think about things today. When Graham isn't seeing people at his clinic he is hard at work with the Moncton Wildcats, Go cats go! Winning the Memorial Cup is always the goal and maybe this year that will happen. We had an amazing discussion and Graham is so good at telling stories, especially about when he needed a suit at the last minute to be hired for the Wildcats job.
I enjoyed my time at Sportmed Max Physiotherapy and I wanted to get the phone number out there for anyone who could use any of the services that they provide, links below. We hope everyone who tunes in has a wonderful day and stays safe and injury-free.

  • Use it or lose it - With Greg Scott #155
Greg Scott started racing mountain bikes at a later stage of life finishing dead last for the first few. After Greg had some races under his belt the results got better and better, now at 63 Greg hopes to make the podium and keep on biking as long as possible. With two broken ribs, one clavicle,  seven broken helmets, plus cancer treatments and a ton of bike parts replaced, there is no doubt Greg loves racing mountain bikes. Greg also designs and maintains courses trying to use the lay of the land to help with a more natural design plan. Why not work in a bike shop with some spare time, Greg loves to help others get on their bike and accomplish their goals. An inspiring tale about someone who just will not give up. The Elgin 80 is Greg's next big race and we believe he will have fun no matter where he finishes, good luck Greg

  • Your direction is more important than your speed - With Cory Richardson #154
"How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives." Words to live by and Cory Richardson does live by these words that is why we invited him back onto our show. Cory is very passionate about getting our youth outdoors more and on the internet less. We wanted to take a deeper dive into how this could be accomplished. We discuss a wide range of topics about how this may be done. Our direction is more important than our speed, just getting started is half the battle. How many people have gear for outdoor activities they never use, I know I do. Maybe the schools could help out? it's possible. We are hoping that someone can listen to this and help this process along. All the links are below if you would like to contact Cory and see if there might be something you could do. Let's spread the word and help to keep our youth more active in the great outdoors. That would be good for everyone, mentally and physically.

  • Be the adult you want your kids to become - With Jean-Marc Doiron #153
In this week's episode, our very special guest is Jean-Marc Doiron. Jean-Marc Doiron is a high-performance runner and a dedicated family man. At 35, he is not only a father of two but also a seasoned athlete who has clocked over 3,000 kilometers annually for the past two decades. His passion for running remains undiminished, with a personal best marathon time of 2:32, achieved in the fall of 2023 while raising two young children.
Jean-Marc’s journey into the world of running began at the age of 16 when he decided to focus solely on the sport after being a multi-sport athlete. This decision paved the way for his participation in the World Francophone Games in Lebanon in 2009 and his recognition as Athlete of the Year across all sports at his university in 2010. In 2011, he clocked a personal best time of 1:49 in the 800m, narrowly missing the 2012 Olympic standard of 1:46.
Beyond his achievements, Jean-Marc has also significantly contributed to the sport through coaching. He led the university’s cross-country team and was honored as Coach of the Year in 2016. That same year, he ran his first marathon, an experience that captivated him with its unique training regimen, intricate logistics of nutrition and stress management, and the camaraderie accompanying the event. Jean-Marc’s story is a testament to his dedication to running and his commitment to his family.

Our very special guest for this episode is Nathaniel Couture and we want to welcome him back to our show. The last time Nathaniel was on our show, back in episode 26, our Province had just gone into a full lockdown and we wanted to know what made Nathaniel tick. Why ultra trail running and how he stayed motivated. After nearly three years we wanted an update, is Nathaniel still doing 100-mile runs? The answer may surprise you and we hope you will listen to this episode and find out. Nathaniel has found a new love in the Winter, Cross-country skiing. His kids have been involved for years, why not Nathaniel? We chat about Backyard ultras, guess who might be interested in trying one? We have a great conversation and you may even get to know Nathaniel's favourite junk food because this is essential information.

  • No fear - With Nick Richards #150
Nick Richards is our special guest this evening, born in BC and now living in Halifax. Nick was a smoker and in 2019 couldn't run one continuous km, how things have changed? The stories Nick shares are crazy and gut-wrenching. Nick left the Navy after eight years and was at the bottom, picked himself up, and got to work. In late 2021 Nick decided it was time to start trail running, getting out more into nature and seeing what he could accomplish. In 2022 Nick completed Capes 100 with five minutes to spare, amazing. In 2023 Nick went to Alberta and completed Canada's only 200 mile race, The Divide in 86 hours. Very impressive, now Nick wants to see his limits and has his eyes set on more long-distance runs. People should listen to this episode, it shows how negatives can be turned into positives and reminds us to drop our fears and get out there and go for it.
Don't forget about Nick's Chilly Challenge, at least 300 km running each month this Winter outdoors and for every 1000$ donated, he will plunge into the ocean for 1 minute. I see the donations are just over 2000$, 2 minutes. I think we should get that up to at least 3000$. Nick wants to raise money and awareness for members of the community who are OUT IN THE COLD this Winter and support the community association by the same name. Links are below in the notes. Let's help Nick plunge into that cold Ocean water as long as possible, we can't wait to see it happen.

  • Have a clear vision - With Cory Richardson #149
Welcome to our podcast everyone, our special guest for this week is Cory Richardson. Cory is a goal setter and one of the main goals he is trying to promote is the idea of students spending at least one week of the school year camping, organized by students themselves, and that schools would collect camping gear from the community to reduce obstacles to youth enjoying nature. More kids spending more time outdoors and less time on their devices sounds like a wonderful idea here at Motivate to Move.
This is just the beginning of what Cory is doing and working on. In this episode, you will hear many more ideas such as "Buddy Benches" and trail building. Cory has been offering art therapy workshops in schools since 1999, teaching life planning, hoop dance, beadwork, sewing, journal writing, talking circles, and much more. How about Cory's project of linking a trail from Saint John to Walton Glen Gorge, then on to Sussex? Spending the last ten years developing Walton Glen Gorge to be a rock climbing area, and doing it alone as Cory enjoys the peace of doing first ascents.
With All the free time Cory has why not have your own online company, HangingHugs.com, an online custom Hammock building business. Links below, and I would suggest you go check it out, very cool Hammocks indeed. Selling these Hammocks helps Cory fund some of the projects he has going on, give it a look.
Did I forget to mention his solo kayak journey from Vancouver to Central Mexico? Cory had an online journal back in 1997 and documented this journey way back then and had over 4 million visitors, which is very impressive.
We cover a ton of things in this episode and I can't go over it all here so why not listen while you're out connecting with nature and see what Cory has to say, we are glad we did.
