  • The Transcendence 100 - With Alex Quinn #138
Last year Alex Quinn created his very own Transcendence run and completed his 100 km while running laps around Kings Square in downtown Saint John. This year Alex has struck gold again but instead of 100 km, it was 100 miles, an incredible achievement, way to go Alex. Why did Alex do such an incredible feat one might ask? Well, because Alex wanted to raise money to help save a life, suicide prevention. Never alone for any of his roughly 400 laps, Alex recalls how his event went, his training, his family support, and all the events he has completed leading up to this one. His coach and all the local support plus many trail runners and runners alike were there to cheer Alex on. A very inspirational and motivating story that you will not want to miss.

  • Kicking PancreAS - With Stefanie Condon-Oldreive and Jos Eijkelestam #136
Tonight we speak with Stefanie Condon-Oldreive. When her very healthy father passed away from pancreatic cancer, Stefanie was searching for answers. Little did she know there was very little information out there for pancreatic cancer and support for the disease was no better. Sometimes people were told to go home and get their affairs in order. this was unacceptable to Stefanie and she has created Craig’s Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society and turned it into a national charity dedicated to both increasing survival and improving the quality of life for every Canadian diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. With partnerships and fundraising efforts over $2,000,000 has been raised. 100% of every dollar is donated back to all their programs for this disease. This leads us to the Kicking PancreAS 5km run/walk event, in a province near you. Diane and I are planning on joining for the virtual 5km this year, maybe you should. Links are below for the run and some excellent data is provided for this episode. Get out there and get moving.

  • Capes 100 - Journey to 100 Miles - With Nick Landry #135
Nick Landry had a thought 5 years ago: to run a 100-mile ultra event. We have Nick back on our show tonight because he has accomplished that goal. We discuss the training, the mental and physical stresses placed on the body, and the run itself. The highs and lows of such a grueling event can be overwhelming but Nick was up to the task. Doing much better than he even thought possible, Nick crushed the Capes 100 course. This is a very inspiring story and reminds us that the mind and body can do amazing things with the right mindset and proper training. Nick writes a wonderful blog about his run at Capes and it made me feel as if I was there. The link is below in the show notes and I would encourage everyone listening to this podcast to go read his blog post. Keep up the great work Nick.

  • Laps 7 and 8 were tough - With Jess Vickruck # 134
We are back at it from our summer vacation and we have a treat for you this evening. This episode was recorded in August after I ran the Dark 50 event in Minto NB. I met on the course Jess Vickruck, we ran a few laps of the 10-lap race together and started chatting. This was the longest race she had ever attempted. We get to hear how Jess handled the event, the course at night, and what it is like running on trails in the dark. Jess tells us how she started running and what led her to choose the Dark 50 trail run. Jess had a couple of surprises at the end of her run, I will not share them here in the notes, but we believe you will love hearing about it. I want to add this was an event put on by Jos Eijkelestam, Dutch Viking Events. If you haven't checked out any Dutch Viking events, I suggest you try it.

  • Committed to sustainability - With Benjamin Smith #133
Benjamin Smith loves disc golf and is very passionate about the sport. He has been playing since 2003 and has designed and built over 44 disc golf courses, which is very impressive. Ben has developed a disc golf lesson plan that he taught over 20,000 people. Ben is working on disc golf to be recognized as a National Sporting Organization, more recognition for the sport he loves. Disc golf is popping up everywhere and still only 20% of Maritimers have even heard of it and that is what Ben is trying to change and getting as many people out there playing the sport as possible. We talk about Hurricane Fiona and how it devastated PEI and many courses around the Maritimes including his very own. The courses are slowly coming back and new ones are being proposed all the time. The sport is growing fast and there is no telling how far it can go. More sustainable than a golf course and using the land and its features to its advantage, the wave of the future is here and I can't wait to try it out.

  • Adrenaline junkie - With Kristine Cormier #132
How do you handle it when your big event is cancelled last minute? In this episode, we chat with Kristine Cormier about the cancellation of the 2023 Mont-Tremblant Ironman Event. A true champion, Kristine speaks of the positives in this disappointing situation and is already looking forward to the next chapter. Kristine gives her time as a coach for junior and adult athletes. Many long nights of studying to receive all the qualifications needed to be a junior athlete coach. Kristine gives back constantly and tells some wonderful stories that you will not want to miss. For her next big event Kristine will be training for a marathon, she pushes the pace but I hope to run a few km with her when the time is right.

  • 40 shades of grey - With Denise Trask #130
Denise Trask is tonight's special guest and has always been very active. Hiking, biking, running and she got up to a 3rd-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, very impressive. In 2019 Denise was diagnosed with Breast cancer but she didn't just sit back, not a chance. In this episode, we discuss her fight with Breast cancer and how Denise dealt with everything during Covid. Denise got involved with the CIBC Run for the Cure and we ask how she raised all the money for Breast cancer research. Everything from her popular fudge sale to Bingo games to creating her own Amazing Race. Denise has raised money in many ways and has been the top fundraiser for the CIBC Run for the Cure for 3 years in a row. Atlantic Canadians that have breast cancer can join a group that Denise is the moderator for, the link is down below. A very important episode that we believe everyone should listen to.

  • You may need to get some Bear spray - With Helena Millar #129
Helena Millar is tonight's guest and it's not hard to see why we would want her on our show. Helena has done and is doing a ton of things, Half marathons and marathons, plus biking and swimming and having a bit of fun thrown into the mix as well. Helena tells a wonderful story about her marriage and how that translated into doing an Ironman, very interesting. We learn how she got to New Brunswick, why she stayed, and the community they have helped build. Helena helps to organize many events and we here at Motivate to Move are glad we have people like Helena and her husband Garth, setting up events all the time such as our very own Legs for Literacy and yes the marathon is coming back. Sit back and have a cold drink and listen to this episode and ask yourself if you want to help volunteer, maybe so.
