  • We are going for sunshine - With Amber Hachey #148
We recorded this episode in December and wanted to save it for our first show of 2024. Diane and I want to thank all our listeners for taking to time to check out our podcast. This journey has been a wonderful one that we like sharing with you.
Tonight's guest is Amber Hachey from Quispamsis / Saint John, NB. Amber loves outdoor adventures and was very competitive at a young age through high school. Hiking with her dogs was a favorite pastime of Ambers. In 2019 Amber purchased her first pair of trail running shoes and off she went. Amber joined the Saint John Trail Runners and started running several races. Completing five big trail runs this year and her very first 110km race, fantastic. She was one of the many volunteers at the first-ever Loonie Loops, working behind the scenes. This is where I met Amber and knew we needed her on our show and we are so glad she said yes. Amber talks about what it was like and the nasty weather conditions Amber, Marc McColgan and everyone else went through. It was one heck of an event and hearing from Amber what the 24-hour event was like was gold. I hope you enjoy our first show back in 2024, I know we enjoyed speaking with Amber a great deal.

  • Merry Christmas - With Santa Claus #147
For the fourth consecutive year, we have Santa Claus back on our show to talk about Christmas. How does Santa stay in shape for the big day you might ask, we have the answer right here. Ever wonder how long it takes Santa to recover after delivering all those toys? Santa even lets us in on a little secret, about how he gets in all those houses. Santa talks about the Elves and the Reindeer and how much Mrs.Claus keeps everything in running order. Santa tells us that he loves anything homemade the best but I ask the question, what is Santa's favourite cookie and he does indeed let us know. For anyone wanting to know a little bit more about Santa, you may want to sit down for a few and listen to our show. Santa announces the winner for our guess the cash in the magic bottle game, so stay tuned until the end to see who wins my money. Merry Christmas everyone and happy holidays, see you in the New Year.

  • Things that matter - With Boyd Dunleavey #146
We here at Motivate to Move knew we wanted to have Boyd Dunleavey come back on our show and that we wanted to do it before our Christmas break. The reason is simple, Boyd inspires everyone around him and at this time of the year, especially this time of year, inspiration can be a very powerful tool. Boyd will tell you that he is a competitive person and wants to give his time to help others. Boyd's story is worth listening to and he has come a long way. With a running streak of well over 400 days and over 95 half marathons in a little over a year, we can't wait to see what Boyd has planned next year. So many fantastic stories and Boyd's timing couldn't be better, we recorded this on the American Thanksgiving plus it was his stem cell donor Nathan's birthday. Boyd has a lot to be thankful for and we want to thank Boyd for sharing his story with our listeners.

  • Cut the crap - With Luc Doucet #145
Luc Doucet is tonight's very special guest, someone we have wanted to chat with for some time. We have known Luc for many years, running with him sometimes with our running group several years ago. Now Luc has moved to Halifax and is running a ton of km. With a running streak of over 1300 days and for much of that a 10km a day minimum, amazing. But there is still more, Luc is close to 6000km for the year and we are sure he will complete those km. As you can see Luc runs a ton of km and we love it. Then we get some crazy side stories and more running streaks he does within his streak, very impressive. There is a lot to learn from Luc just with his mindset. His positive attitude and determination is something that we can all look up to. Keep on trucking Luc, we can't wait to see what is next.

Luc has a very interesting project he does called Framedtrails. Going to put the link below because it's such a cool idea, check it out.

  • Exploring the Dobson Trail - With Rodney Steeves #144
We had a fantastic discussion with Rodney Steeves recently from Riverview N.B. What Rodney has done is very impressive, for 20 years Rodney has been hauling his wheelbarrow from his place near the entrance of the Dobson Trail, up to 2.5 Km into the trail. This all started 20 years ago to walk his dog, why not be productive while walking? For 7 months of the year, Rodney hauls either tailings or a sandstone base material into the Dobson trail. Making the trail better for more people to walk and hike. Recently Rodney has completed his initial goal but the job is never done, now Rodney has a few more ideas to make the Dobson Trail a better place for all. We get some background on the Dobson, how it started, and when it started. A documentary titled Fervent Pull is soon to be released in 2024 and Rodney is a big part. We can't wait to see more of what Rodney is doing for the Dobson. Helping to promote the use of such a wonderful trail and keeping fit mentally and physically is something many of us should look at.

  • Father and daughter running duo - With Mark Hemmings and Aren Sophia #143
Tonight we have two amazing guests for you. Mark Hemmings and his daughter Aren, these two were recently part of the 24-hour run at Loonie Loops in late August. We met on the trial several times that day and chatted with each other. I was very surprised to find out this was a father and daughter-running duo. I was instantly impressed and thought that we had to get Mark and Aren on our show and here they are. Both signed up for the 24-hour run and as some of you know the conditions were not the best. That didn't deter either of them, they just kept at it. Listen to Aren talk about how this was her first podium finish and took first place. Great job Aren and an amazing story. Mark had an amazing day himself finishing with 26 laps for the run and his fastest lap was his final lap, amazing. Father and daughter were very determined and wouldn't stop in some of the worst conditions. What I like about this interview is the fact that both Aren and Mark loved their time on the trail at Loonie Loops and they can't wait to try again next year. Can't wait to see what next year brings.

Follow Mark on Strava, he runs in so many interesting places:

  • Twist that arm - With Erin Whitman #142
Our special guest is Erin Whitman from Fredericton N.B. Erin and her husband James are active and busy with two children. How does a busy family keep active and have the time to go to the events they want to do? Just listen to this episode and find out. 2014 is when things took off for Erin. Now she has completed Marathons, Triathlons, and even an Ironman and we believe nothing can stop her. The next step is trail running and a probable return to Loonie Loops and a 50km trail run. Running inside or outside doesn't matter much to Erin, as long as she gets the training she needs. Great job Erin, keep up the excellent work.

  • Enjoy the Process - With Lee Wesselius #141
Tonight our very special guest is Lee Wesselius originally from River Glade, New Brunswick. What is remarkable about Lee is the fact he can combine veterinary medicine with running at a very high level. Recently Lee just beat his own personal best marathon time by 2 minutes, finishing at 2:14:37, a blazing fast time. We ask Lee about his journey into running, and what keeps him going seven days a week. How does he train when he is on call for his work, what does Lee eat while running these longer races? Lee informs us during the interview that he can run between 160-180 km in a week, incredible. Lee is very passionate about running and it is inspiring to hear him speak about his passion. We chat about many things in this interview, so pull up a chair and listen to what Lee has to say, it's so nice to listen to a positive voice like Lee's.

  • Salted watermelon for the win - with Tim Fitzgerald TJ. #140
Tim Fitzgerald is our special guest this week, or is his name TJ? or perhaps the Fitz? It doesn't matter, what matters is Tim is here to chat about his love for running. Tim has served in the military for nearly 14 years and has been deployed twice, we want to thank him for his service. Tim is passionate about running, at an early age he did well against others, even older kids at school. Today, Tim runs marathons, backyard ultras, and even a 100 miler at Capes. Tim has won some of those events, coming in second in others—an amazing accomplishment in itself. Tim joined the Cape Breton Road Runners years ago and this group of dedicated runners goes all out when it comes to running, link below. What is Duo Decades you might ask, well it's Tim and his wife Jen's Etsy store, really cool vintage items, check it out, link below. We can't wait to see what Tim does next but we do know that we won't have to wait that long, see you on the trails.

  • Bike bus and active transportation - With Shannon Emery and Michael Roy #139
Tonight we cut ties and explore something a little different for us at Motivate to Move, both Diane and I believe this to be a critical topic. Our two guests this evening have been working hard for a better connection of our active transportation routes in and around our Moncton area. Shannon Emery and Michael Roy are passionate about connecting these routes in a safer, more user-friendly way. Once these connections are made more people will use them, build it and they will come. This leads to the other topic of discussion this evening, bike bus. Shannon has been biking with her twins to school nearly every day, why you might ask? Biking in the mornings for kids used to be a mainstay but now it is considered by many to be unsafe, too many cars going too fast and roads not set up for kids to bike to school. Connecting the routes, making things safer by reducing speeds and education plus some much-needed exercise will go a long way. Some mornings Shannon and her friends have 30 kids biking with them with hopes that more parents will start a bike bus in other parts of the city. Now the city has a full-time active transportation coordinator and things are heating up, can't wait to see what happens next.
