Are you unhappy with your work? 

Well I hope this episode helps you to make the jump and change, get up and change your work life today and become happy again. 

In this episode, I review my career to date, how I have arrived at my current position and about some of the highs and lows that I have experienced along the way. 

I also talk about being true to my own goals and thinking in an educational environment that has become more and more system driven and has, in my opinion, lost its heart and soul somewhere in the piles of plans and administration that typify today's classrooms and schools.

How my rapid promotion through the ranks and eventual promotion to become the Principal of a school meant that, I essentially, had lost my own way and had sacrificed my own goals to the system in order to advance. 

I ended up becoming the gatekeeper for the system, a system I didn't believe in!

I also look at how I had to make radical, life changing choices to essentially reinvent how I fitted into the Educational Environment and how I have arrived at my present position where I am more fulfilled and happy in my work.

In this episode I look at the fact that everyone wants happiness and not suffering and I discuss the fact that everyone tries to arrive at this state of happiness by different methods. The methods used to arrive can differ greatly from individual to individual as each one of us brings a unique value system to the negotiation.

In schools we have to try to get the children we work with to not just focus on achieving the happiness but to also take into account how the methods that they employ to get there, impact not only on themselves but also on those around them. 

Essentially we have to educate the individual that it is wrong to gain happiness while exacting pain on others as a result of the methods we achieve to attain happiness. This leads directly into how we structure our school behaviour management strategies.

With that in mind, I also discuss the essentials for an effective school behaviour management policy through a whole school approach, effective collaboration with all stakeholders. 

I look at the school environment and how it can impact on overall thinking and practice which needs to be proactive by involving the students in the making of good choices. 

I also focus on the need for a clear actions/consequences template, both for good and poor behaviour and the need for constant review of systems in order that our practice reflects our school community.

 Yes, a contented Manchester Utd and Armagh GAA supporter at the start of this week, it's not often that they both manage to win on the same weekend!

As part of my ongoing review of the podcast and also my social media output for 2019. I am looking to continually update my thinking around my output and also assess which platforms are best suited to my 'One Man Show!!'

I have said before, that I feel that I can better use my time with platforms that I am comfortable with and find it easier to actually post on and as January progresses I have been experimenting more with Instagram Video where I have looked to include Podcast Transcriptions in video format to extend the reach of that message. I have also returned to my blog that I had taken a break from over the holidays and I'm currently investigating where to go next with that outlet as I have had over 3000 v

In this episode, I take a look at some metabolism killers that can affect us all in our daily lives and discuss some simple workarounds that can help you improve in the short and long term. I am looking at this from my own perspective as an Outreach Teacher who does a lot of travelling around schools but all of these simple tips can be applied by anyone to their own daily routine.

In the latest episode of A Teacher's Story I talk about patience and long term thinking regarding both personal and work goals. 

It's appropriate at this time of year when there is so much focus on goals and planning to look at them in a pragmatic way.

Nothing easy is ever achieved quickly or by 'fast tracking' the preparation for it. 

Just like a footballer has to spend many hours training before reaching a high level of performance during actual games. 

We also have to apply this type of thinking when trying to effect personal change or even work related changes, none of them will just happen they will only occur if we put in the effort. 

This particularly applies whenever we run into difficulties or struggle with or attendance at the gym or necessary learning associated with personal improvement....Patience Is Key!

 Yes, welcome back to the first full week back after the holidays, for many the first with children of the New Term.

Many classes experience problems at the start of any term after a longish break, with teacher's wondering if they ever actually did 'anything' with these children in the previous term! 

This is natural as children quickly forget routines and acceptable standards of communication and behaviour that we would have put in place before the holidays. Home's are different from classroom and the child sometimes has domination of attention in the home environment and can then find the transition back into 'waiting', 'following instructions promptly' etc difficult even after a short break from school.

In this episode I talk about how I overcome that and hopefully provide some help to teachers who are finding the return difficult for children in their classrooms.

As part of my ongoing review of the podcast and also my social media output for 2019. I have looked at the user platforms that I have got the most out of in 2018 and also which platforms are best suited to my 'One Man Show'!

I have struggled with Youtube for over a year and find it is the most difficult platform for me to create posts for and then upload them to it, it may just be me but there it is. 

Similar, with Facebook I just struggle with it as a platform and feel that I can better use my time with platforms that I am comfortable with and find it easier to actually post on.

The great Albert Einstein is broadly credited with exclaiming “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”.
