Episode 43: MURDERED: Mary Virginia Webb - Crook County, WY
A young woman’s cross‑country trip, an isolated highway culvert, and a decades‑old mystery with no answers. What happened to 19‑year‑old Mary Virginia Webb?
Episode Summary
Mary Virginia “Pooh” Webb was born on December 6, 1976. In early June 1996, she left Wenatchee, Washington, to visit family in Conway, Arkansas. Mary was last heard from in Billings, Montana, and never reached her destination. Her family reported her missing on June 13.
Twelve days later, highway workers in rural Crook County, Wyoming, discovered Mary’s body hidden in a drainage culvert beneath U.S. Highway 212. She had been shot three times in the head. Investigators believe she was killed elsewhere and dumped at the culvert, but no one has ever been charged. The case remains unsolved.
Mary was a kind, trusting teenager with no known enemies. Her killing shattered her family and shocked the small Wyoming community where she was found. Decades later, questions linger about who picked her up after Billings and why she was targeted. Mary’s loved ones are still waiting for justice.
