  • There is Blessing in Obedience

This is Episode 247 of the My Morning Devotional Podcast.

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Genesis 3:1-6.

"Continuing our study on Adam & Eve. This story always amazes me. It speaks to our true nature of curiosity, and how we use our free will. In the devotional series that I wrote, I said that our free-will was one of the most beautiful gifts we have been given.

It’s what allows us choose to live a life with God in the center. We aren’t forced to do so.

When God gives us instructions and when He prevents us from walking through certain doors, or when He doesn’t give us what were hoping for and expecting, we are quick to think He is a father that withholds from us.

What we need to understand is that He isn’t a father that withholds a blessing, He is a father that withholds a heart break. When He prevents us from doing certain things, He doesn’t want to hurt us, He wants to protect us.

A lot of the times we are like Eve. We rationalize God’s instruction. We give into society and what it has to say about certain topics, and we weigh it against what was said. We twist His words, and then we are surprised that we get hurt.

Our takeaway today should be very simple, may we listen carefully, may we run into Him freely, may we surrender our ideas of what is write and wrong, and may we just be obedient. One day at a time. "

"We are starting with of course, Adam & Eve. I think there is a lot for us to learn about them over the next few days.

The  was something that really stood out to me while I was reading this chapter. Notice how it was made very clear how the Lord form out of the ground all the animals and birds in the sky.

I don’t think that detail was a mistake. I don’t think any detail in this beautiful Bible is a mistake.

A few verses later, we see that Eve was form from Adam. A few verses earlier we read that Adam was made by God from breathing life into him. There is something extra special about us to God. He created us, on purpose for a purpose.

I hope we spend our days honoring the life inside our bones. "

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Psalm 139:13 which says "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb."

"The idea that God knows our very essence is one of the most beautiful parts of our relationship with Him. When we look around, we see that we are all different. We don’t look the same, talk the same, share the same thoughts. We each have our own dreams, and experiences. We have different perceptions. Different physical traits. Different beings. Yet He took the time to carve us, in all of our details.

I pray that we never take that for granted. I pray that we look at what makes us different and we rejoice in it."

  • Abounding Father

This is Episode 244 of the My Morning Devotional Podcast.

    Find us on Instagram: @mymorningdevo

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Psalm 86:15 which says "But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness."

"A year ago I would have never believed it would be possible, but I am walking out this dream. Even on this mountain top, I have had dips, and twists and turns I didn’t see coming, but this is the verse I chose to hold onto.

He is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

My paster preached this weekend a message about When God Gets Mad. He said God is an an emotional being, but He is never changing. He was the same yesterday is the same today and will be the same tomorrow. I am not sure if you are in a season where you feel God’s mercy, or God’s discipline but they both make us stronger.

Abounding means very plentiful, abundant. He is faithful. Not just faithful sometimes, but abundantly faithful. He will get you through where ever He has you. He will get you on the mountain top, He will walk with you in the valley’s. He disciplines us, He showers us in grace. He is a good good father and we are lucky to have Him in our life. "

  • Love; Even When You Don't Want To

This is Episode 243 of the My Morning Devotional Podcast.

    Find us on Instagram: @mymorningdevo

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Romans 13:10 which says "Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law"

"Loving a neighbor means wishing that person the best. The best thing this life can offer is a relationship with Jesus.

So as well prepare for the day head of us, let us pray our neighbors get a life changing experience with our Lord. It is the best gift anyone can receive. Even for those that make you want to scream.

Maybe you don’t have anyone you are mad at. Maybe you aren’t experiencing betrayal. But maybe you’re holding onto offense and you’ve been a little blind to see it.

Our prayer today should be for God to life the glasses. May we rid of anything that poisons us. May we forgive, May we love. "

  • May The Lord Be With You

This is Episode 242 of the My Morning Devotional Podcast.

    Find us on Instagram: @mymorningdevo

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Ephesians 5:8 which says "For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light"

"This verse is beautiful. It helps remind us where we once were and where we are now. We are forever changed because of our relationship with God. What He started in our hearts can never be put out. It will always burn. No matter how far we may run, our spirits are ignited with His.

We have to embrace the change that comes with being a Christian. It means that some ways of life no longer fit. For example, I love a good margarita on Taco Tuesdays but I no longer drink until I can’t remember the next morning. I left those days behind in college before Jesus impacted my life.

Everyday I continue to grow, closer and closer to Him. Everyday I change, and I try to be better than I was the day before, as I am sure you do too.

I picked this verse from my favorite saga:

“You can’t stop the change, any more than you can stop the suns from setting.”

We are now officially children of the light, and we can’t stop the change that has occurred in our hearts the moment we let Him in. "

This is Episode 241 of the My Morning Devotional Podcast.

    Find us on Instagram: @mymorningdevo

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Daniel 3:17-18 which says "17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up."

"I don’t know who needs to hear these words this morning, but God will deliver you from the false gods you serve. We all have them. Some of us serve money, some of us serve social media, others serve our addictions, some serve fame, some serve vanity.

I pray we have the courage to declare God will deliver us, and even if He doesn’t, I pray we vow to remove the false gods in our lives. Let’s put the phone down. When you are at dinner with your friends and family, put the phone down.

Spoiler alert for the end of this story, God delivers them. He will deliver you, but you have to surrender it to Him. "

  • His Timing, Not Mine

This is Episode 240 of the My Morning Devotional Podcast.

    Find us on Instagram: @mymorningdevo

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Proverbs 13:12 which says "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life."

"There are things in our lives that we hope for and as time passes and those hopes do not come to pass, it’s easy to turn that smile into a frown. It’s easy to become overwhelmed, it’s easy for the heart to be sick.

We mourn over the thought that the one thing we’ve always wanted may actually never happen. Playing that reality in our minds is what hurts us.

This verse is saying, a loving fulfilled is a tree of life. This of course referencing when what you have hoped for has actually happened.

Today that which I have hope for for many years is happening. Today is my last day as a full-time employee. But I can’t lie if my heart wasn’t sick for a long time. When I got hired I told myself and everyone around me “I will be at this job for one year, and I will not work for another employer, I will be my own boss”

God delivered, but it wasn’t in my timing, it was in His. Three weeks ago I celebrated four years with the company. It didn’t happen when I wanted it to, but it happened.

Don’t forget that God knows what you are praying for. He is a faithful father, don’t let your heart become sick. You will get your tree of life. It just won’t be when you expect it."

    Find us on Instagram: @mymorningdevo

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Romans 8:28 which says "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."

"God is everywhere, He is in everything. He knows the episode had trouble uploading today. He knows I did my part, He knows people are in need of prayer and yet he is calm cool and collected, because all is going to work out.

The same could be said in our personal lives. He knows you forgot to take out the trash and it’s overflowing on the side of the house. He knows that you didn’t get the clothes into the dryer on time so you ned to wash again. He knows that your favorite perfume fell and broke on the floor. But he also knows, that the doctor reports didn’t come back as you had expected. He also knows your child is struggling in school. He also knows that your career is treading a fine line because of some mistake at work. He knows the little stuff and He knows the big stuff.

Sometimes we can’t fix the problem, all we can do is our part. All we can do is get the necessary things in order, and then we have to match that with faith that it’s going to get resolved, in God’s timing. "

    Find us on Instagram: @mymorningdevo

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Philippians 4:20 which says "To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen."

"I don’t know what season you are walking through. I know a lot of us have worry on our hearts. Worry about the future. What degree should I pursue? Is my spouse going to be okay? How is my mom doing in this time. Will I ever find a partner in this life. Will I ever land my dream job. Will I ever become the parent I have dreamed of becoming. Will those adoption papers process in time. Will I find enough customers for my business to flourish.

We can look at our worry and be guilty of giving it the glory, we let it reign in our lives. Our one takeaway today is to remember the One who gives us life every day. Remember the One that is the only one deserving of glory. God is good. Forever and ever. He’s got us in the palm of His hand."
