Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Jeremiah 33:6 which says """Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security."

"I read this verse in a few different versions. In the ESV it says :6 Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security. I really liked how one version used peace while the other used the word prosperity. 

I think it’s because we associate peace with prosperity. Only if I had the right job, then I will be at peace, then I will find security. So many of us think this way. If only I had a meal plan, then I would eat right and lose the weight. If only I had time in my schedule, then I would pray more. We have it all wrong. 

Nothing on this earth can bring us the peace. Prosperity, or security than a life with Jesus in the center. We have to remember that. When we look for opportunity we must wait for him to open the doors, we must not force them open ourselves. 

This verse also talks about healing, and a lot of us are on the search for that too. If you are sick in your body, I am going to stand with you in believing that you are healed. God is the father of healing, he is the God of miracles and this verse says I will heal my people. He will heal your bodies, your hearts, your brokenness. 

He is a good good father, and I hope these devotionals allow you to hold onto the truth that life is much better when we start our mornings and surround our days with Him."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of John 3:30 which says "He must become greater; I must become less."

"I don’t have it all figured out, but I do know one thing, God is the leader of my life. I read a quote the other day that says Great leaders inspire greatness in others. When I thought of all the people I have in my life, many leaders came to mind. The fist being my pastor, who is the leader of my church. But then there are other leaders in my life. We have a team of leaders at the agency I work for, my mom and my dad were both the leaders of my home for many years, I had many leaders I looked up to in high-school and in college through my extra circular activities like in my Marching band, and my sorority.

Although all of these people are important and have taught me valuable lessons who have shaped my beliefs and identity, there is only one true great leader in my life and His name is of course , Jesus.

I chose to follow a life after Him as I am sure you do. In order to really allow Him to lead we must learn for his instructions. We can look to the Bible for his teachings, and parables, but the only way we can really allow His teachings to lead us, we must allow Him to be the greater voice in our life.

 

This verse is so critical in this. He must become greater, I must become less. When we do this, when we allow him to hold the greater voice of influence over our actions, only one thing can happen- greatness will flow through us. Like I mentioned, great leaders inspire greatness in others.

If you want to do great work, ask Him for help. Ask Him for direction. Let Him guide you to where he needs you. Allow Him to lead you."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of 3 John 1:2 which says "Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul."

"We look to the word of God to see how Jesus lived. We studied His life, we study His teachings, but we also must take time to study how people lived in the days and years after Jesus acceded to heaven. After all, their lives should be examples to us all as we are human and as were they. Don’t get this mistaken, they were imperfect and it isn’t to make a god out of any of them because our one true example is Jesus, but I do think they lived lives that are relatable in that they too snuggled and chose to be Christian even when the world told them to believe in anything but Christ.

 

This opening sentence really got me thinking of those I love around me. We live in such a fast paced society, but we must remember to truly slow dow, and speak and listen to those around us.

 

I pray we are quick to wish them good health, and not to just ask them for favors. In my prayer time today as I was reading this, I was encouraged to write a list of those around me. The circle God has placed in my life. My family, friends, co-workers, and mentors and wish them good health.

 

It encouraged me to strike up a conversation and listen to their needs.

 

I know this year was a crazy one and I bet you a lot of them are walking through a season they probably haven’t wanted to open up about. Everyone is going through something and no one deserves to go through it alone.

 

I hope that you take some time to do the same. Even if it’s just one person. Listen to them, extend them well wishes and follow up with them. Sometimes the best way we can extend the love of Jesus to others is to listen to them and comfort them right where they meet us."

"My labor is prompted out of love. Every prayer request every DM every story, every testimony pushes me to continue to spread the love of the gospel. I am an imperfect human, but I try my best for my works to be a reflection of his goodness in my life. I am not saying your work has to be ministry work. But I am asking you these same questions.

 

Is your faith producing good work? Is your labor prompted by love? Is your endurance inspired by hope?

 

I hope that you take some time to really break it down today and pivot your work towards His direction where necessary."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Zephaniah 3:17 which says "17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing."

"The Lord is in our midst. Meaning he is involved in everything, absolutely everything we are going through.

Nothing is too far from him, nothing is too hard for him to hear. He wants us to confide in him. But more that that he will save you form your pain. Heal your scars, walk you through the good and the bad times. 

But this verse continues to say he will rejoice over us with gladness. It put a smile on my face. The definition of the word rejoice is to feel or show great joy or delight. The word Joy keeps coming up. I want to feel more joy, I want to make it a point to spread more joy, but I never really paused to think that God himself would  be expressing joy over me. I can assume you might feel the same way sometimes.

 Maybe that’s a good nugget to hold onto for this day, God rejoices ever you. That’s an affirmation you can repeat daily.

 But you see this verse continues and it was really interesting to me as I read it over and over and over again. He will quiet you by his love, he will exalt over you with loud singing.

 The words quiet and loud appear within the same line. Almost as if He is saying, my love will leave you speechless, and I have no intention to ever stop signing songs of praise over you.

 So as you go about your day, remember that He is closer than you can ever imagine, and he is rejoicing over you. He is singing over you. You are so very loved and it’s such a beautiful thing."

"Yet every 3 months I find myself trying to make room, declutter and find space for the items I have.

 Yesterday was one of those nights, after work I jumped on my peloton, and had dinner then I dove into my room for hours. Removing all of the boxes I had under my bed, sweeping, sweeping, and more sweeping. I was really able to organize my mess but I couldn’t help but to look at it and ask “How did I get here?” I had literally cleaned out my room before the new year. 

The truth is, I never really cleaned out my room. I would just find a new home for most of my items. The problem with that was that I was rearranging my things to look like I had my life put together but really the problem of just having too much stuff was still there and I really didn’t have my life put together.

 We has humans do this rearranging in real life too. We move cities, change careers, change routines to feel like we have our lives together but in reality we are just covering up our problems with distractions. 

When you catch yourself in this kind of behavior, remind yourself that you are probably coping with something much deeper. When you sit an unpack that you will most likely find years of pent up pain. You seek new careers, new cities, or big changes because you feel stuck in your session, rather than asking God to help you understand why he has you in this season to begin with. We must remember the Lord is close to the brokenhearted. Like this verse says, he saves those who are crushed in spirit.

 I am not sure where you find yourself today, but stay grounded. Ask God for guidance and try and release the need to rearrange your surroundings for the hope of feeling better."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Job 2:10 which says "10 Job answered, “You sound like one of those fools on the street corner! How can we accept all the good things that God gives us and not accept the problems?” So even after all that happened to Job, he did not sin. He did not accuse God of doing anything wrong."

"His words are so powerful they really tugged at my heart when I was reading them. How can we accept all the good things that God gives us and not accept the problems? We all can relate to this. Things can be fine and dandy one day, we have great faith when we get into our dream University, or we land that dream job. We can be full of faith on the days when all is well in the world and we are planning a wedding or buying a home. But what happens when your life seems to fall apart and you get bad news. What happens when your family dynamic is shifted, or you lose your job, or your body is sick. 

We must remember to never curse at God, but to confide in him when these things occur so that He can guide us and protect us through it. So I am not sure what you are facing on this beautiful Monday morning, but we have a perfect Father protecting you. We must accept this life for what is and the cards we are dealt, but we must never forget we can lean on him throughout it all."

Join me,  Alison Elizabeth as we read out of 1 John 4:18-19 "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.We love because he first loved us."

"The best part of this verse is that it is clearly addressed that there is no fear in love. Perfect love drives out fear. You may be thinking about your loved ones, and you can say yeah but it scares me to love on that person. What if I get hurt.

 

We aren’t talking about that kind of love. We are talking about the perfect love from God. There is no fear there. He has you covered. He has you protected. Nothing can harm you. Nothing can separate you from His love. Because of that, we can love others. Because we know there is no fear in the love that he has for us, we can badly walk into our world and extend love to the people closest to us.

 

You are scared you might get hurt. You are scared it’s going to be hard? We talked about it, love is hard and it can all be a little scary but we can rest knowing that His love is enough."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Matthew 5:44 which says "But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you"

"The greatest example of course being Jesus himself. You see, Jesus was on the cross and He said “Forgive them for they know not what they do” it’s the perfect illustration of how we can respond to others who hurt us. Forgiveness to me is a direct correlation to love. When you forgive someone, you are choosing to extend grace as God does with us daily and as we talked about that last week, grace is His way of loving us.

 

Have you ever repeated the Lord’s prayer? There is that one line I could never forget “forgive my trespasses as we forgive those.” It’s so easy to repeat those words and underestimate the weight they carry. We ask God to forgive us as we forgive others and if we can’t forgive others, how can we expect for God to forgive us?

 

Forgiveness and love doesn’t mean you have to call the person who hurt you today and you have to confess that you are okay with what happened and you forgive them. It really means talking to God and allowing the poison that you are holding onto to be removed from your life..."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Ecclesiastes 4:10 which says "10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up."

"This verse speaks to the power of having people in your life that you can confide in. So many times we have questions, we can go through moments where we feel alone or we just need some advice. This is when these kinds of relationships in our lives are so important.

 

A friend can be people you’ve met along the way, it can be your spouse, or even your family.

 

God created us to be creatures in community. He knew there was power in having a group of people in your life. He also blesses your life through them.

 

Look at Job. In Job 42:10 it says 10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.

 

It comes to no shock that friends bless your life. They are pillars you can lean on. But, like in everything, we know that there are some friends that may be toxic. Or maybe you’re feeling alone or disillusioned by the people in your life. I believe that God wants you to find others to connect with that you can count on, so at the end we will pray for those who are looking for a safe circle of friends.

 

All-in-all there is one that is the greatest friend of all, and his name is Jesus.

 

John 15:15 says No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.

 

Today’s takeaway is short and simple. Take a moment to tell your friends just how much they mean to you."
