This week I’m sitting down with Georgia Smith, She’s one of half of the team behind the Purple Mountain Observatory brand who’ve made some of the most exciting outdoor gear of the past few years. Georgia’s London-based but mad keen on getting outside and the clothing she designs is really reflected in this. She runs bouldering events, classes and workshops for the female outdoor collective GorpGirls and does tons of other ace and interesting stuff. I’m buzzing to chat to her about her love of beautiful, technical design and see how she got to where she is today. This is gonna be the last episode of series 2 but don’t sweat it, we won’t leave ya hanging for too long. Series 3 is in the can and we’ll have the first episode out in a few week’s time when I’ve had a few weeks to go outside and look at some trees or something. This week I’m chatting to the very legendary Danny Fahey. Danny’s the founder of Manchester-based creative agency Thirty Pound Gentlemen who do all kinds of ace things with ace brands. You’ll hear plenty more about it in the episode. He’s got a deep passion for the music and culture that he’s immersed in and has a proper understanding of what an authentic voice is. I’m buzzing to talk to him about his unorthodox journey into the world of garms and hear about the forces that shaped him and his wardrobe. If you like what you see and hear on My Own Garms and you want to make a podcast yourself, then hit me up on insta @grifter_te. That’s my day job. Kazna Asker takes us through some insta fit pics on the My Own Garms podcast.
On this week’s ep, I’m sitting down with Kazna Asker. Kazna is fashion-focussed multi-disciplinary artist who celebrates her Yemeni culture through her clothes and documentaries. Sam Birch, who helped with the filming of M.O.G. series one, sent me a link to a BBC news segment celebrating Kazna’s first show at London fashion week, which was very, very sick. I watched her documentary about the place she comes from on the train back from London and thought she’d be ace to get on My Own Garms. She makes absolutely mint gear incorporating second-hand trackies and traditional woven fabrics. I’m buzzing hear more about the diverse influences she draws on to create her work and how she celebrates and elevates her community through garms.
