I've been waiting to share our actual financial independence story in greater detail since before I even recorded the first episode.
Here we are! I'm breaking down from a high level view what our sixteen year journey looks like from a financial flunk to financially independent and almost everything in-between.
No matter where you are at on your journey, I hope you can see your self somewhere in this story, or get started on creating yours.
This week you get to meet MISSES myFIcapsule, as my wife and I spend an hour laying out our experience planning our trip, what went right, what went wrong, what surprised us, what blew us away and how this trip changed us.
If you want a follow up episode in more detail about the trip, please leave a comment, or send me an email at [email protected].

Every 5th episode I give some current events on what's happening in my life, and this week its all about this gap in between the end of our travel, and up to the point of me getting back to work after a 90 day sabbatical!
Additionally after listening back to the trailing 4 episodes I drop some thoughts that I thought needed clarification, elaboration, additional thoughts or quotes that came to mind while reviewing the trailing four episodes.
Today we are reviewing a short term rental property that Mallorie and her husband bought in 2021 during peak travel times to a very desirable tourist destination. We review and break down why it was purchased, what they love about it, how the expenses are going, and what its future potential could be.
In addition, we cover some real estate basics and return on investment expectations from a high level for Short Term, Mid Term, and more traditional long term rental properties.

In this episode I expand on the middle part of the FI Journey, or even in some cases the early part of the Journey.
This is often referred to in the FI community as:
-The Boring Middle
-The Slog
-The Grind
-The Muddled Middle
The goal of this episode is to reframe that thinking, and express gratitude for where we are at today, while aspiring towards what is next.

Way back before I headed out on my sabbatical, my friend DJ turned the tables on me, asking and clarifying FI Concepts, steps along the journey, and a bit more. This is part 2 of 2, where we clarify various age benchmarks and things we might want to be thinking about from a financial standpoint.
You'll notice me pop in the beginning with the into, and after DJ wraps, you'll get me for a few minutes in the outro.

Way back before I headed out on my sabbatical, my friend DJ turned the tables on me, asking and clarifying FI Concepts, steps along the journey, and a bit more. This is part 1 of 2, with a cool announcement at the end in in my post-recording outro that I recorded in real time.

In this episode I'm recording from Banff Canada, looking back at the previous 5 episodes and hitting on anything I think I missed, overlooked, or additional thoughts that were triggered. Also, an update on my travels as we are getting much closer to the end of our 11 weeks on the road during our sabbatical.

This week the stock market went a little crazy, so I wanted to address that, what to expect and more importantly how to think through how you feel about market fluctuation today to ensure you are better prepared for the future when there are other drops and any time you might have larger sums to invest all at once.
In this episode I'm sharing an episode of another podcast where I was the guest, chatting with an old high school friend that is in the personal finance space. We chatted about money philosophy, savings tips & tricks, and our summer sabbatical. I hope you enjoy listening to Bjorn and I go back and forth on money subjects.
