Mystery to Me

In this episode, Quincy M.E. paraphrases the Dead Kennedys by demanding: "All punks, fuck off."

Airing December 1, 1982, this is the eighth episode of the medical mystery show's eighth season.Jack Klugman stars as Dr. R. Quincy, M.E, or "Quince." This episode also features a young Melora Hardin, Anita Gillette, Barbara Cason, Robert Ito, John S. Ragin, Garry Walberg, and Val Bisoglio.

"Next Stop, Nowhere" drones out question after daring question: Can a genre of music be a murder weapon? Can a song turn a wholesome, clean-cut American kid into a killer? Are the punks the worst people who ever lived? Am I so out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong.

That's right. Jack Klugman's Dr. Quincy is going to come out against the evils of punk music. Listen to Caince and Greence jam about topics like the War of 1812, preachy elders, and the comparative reasonableness of Dragnet.

Scampering serial killers, Batman!

The Batman is a gritty superhero film that premiered on March 1, 2022. Directed by Matt Reeves, this movie stars Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell.

Basically, Batman must team up with Catwoman to fight corruption in Gotham, as a Zodiac Killer-style Riddler murders victims with dumb puns. In terms of genre, it's bat-milk blend of superhero, noir, and thriller. Picture a guy in a tactical bat costume standing in the middle of a brutal crime scene, as forensic techs collect evidence. That's an actual scene in this movie. That's basically this entire movie, in essence.

Listen to Áine and Kevin defuse topics like the history of Batman, the troubling implications of superhero stories, and fictionalizing crime.

Talk about a wrong move.

This was supposed to be Law & Order's triumphant return, but it's bad enough to earn a contempt of court charge.

The first episode of Law & Order's twenty-first season, "The Right Thing" aired on February 24, 2022. The show stars a bunch of newcomers with some returning alumni, including Anthony Anderson, Jeffrey Donovan, Camryn Manheim, Hugh Dancy, Odelya Halevi, Sam Waterson, Alicia Coppola, Lisa Arrindell, and Jeannine Kaspar.

This mistrial of an episode follows the slaying of a Bill Cosby-esque entertainer. But the real murder victim is any sense of excitement that we had about this reboot. Listen to Áine and Kevin deliberate about Superboy, wolves, and writing sins.
