  • Top Tech Stocks - Finding the Best Tech Stocks

Top tech stocks are those that you can purchase, and then forget about for the next decade. When finding top tech stocks, you'll want to start by setting some rules. How to make sure you're not getting caught up in the hype that surrounds many exciting technology companies? Don't invest over a certain valuation, and don't invest in tech stocks unless the underlying companies are showing traction in the form of revenues. Promises and $40 might get you a lap dance at Mustang Sallies, so don't hang on to every word the glorified salespeople running the company are telling every media outlet that will listen. Beware of all the fallacies out there, such as those who believe that "finding the next Google / NVIDIA / Microsoft" is the path to wealth. It's not. You need to focus on proper risk management and diversify your assets before thinking about finding and investing in the best tech stocks out there. We'll help you identify top stocks that have underlying companies which are sure to survive - and hopefully thrive - in any market environment.

  • Unity Stock Analysis - Some Growing Concerns

Our Unity stock analysis looks at what the acquisition of ironSource has resulted in. The answer? Well, not the revenue growth we were hoping for. The combined companies are only expected to grow revenues 3 to 9 percent in 2023, so we're keen to see if 2024 brings all the synergies that were expected with this acquisition. One major problem with $U stock is that investors aren't provided with quarterly earnings decks so they can easily monitor the company's progress. Instead, we're provided with a shareholder update letter which includes several metrics that are weakening over time - net retention rate and customers spending more than $100,000 a year.
Going forward, no more of this pro forma stuff. If Unity doesn’t see strong revenue growth next year, we can assume that a) the 2 + 2 = 5 synergy stuff failed to transpire and b) the company may be reaching maximum growth in their space. What we may see then is an increased focus on profitability in an attempt to sweep the growth problems under the rug. In the meantime, analysts seem preoccupied with AI, and Unity seems eager to oblige them. We might have been able to forgive the company for not presenting investors with quarterly metrics, but add to that the uncertainty surrounding the merger’s success, several key SaaS metrics on the decline, and slowing revenue growth, and we can hardly say that Unity stock is one of the most compelling stocks we own.

Enovix stock has been described as "the next NVIDIA" by some who believe that better batteries - more dense batteries - could be used by just about every industry. That's true, but said batteries need to be produced first, and at scale, for a price that generates a decent gross margin. Our Enovix stock analysis looks at the company's response to the problems they've been having and points investors to the only two metrics they need to be watching meaningful revenue growth that increases consistently over time, and a positive gross margin. Until this company can start selling their new batteries - lots of them - we're avoiding $ENVX stock. We don't invest in companies unless they have meaningful revenues. Ideas and great stores are a dime a dozen. Hopefully, fearless leader T. J. Rodgers can turn this company from one that's just surviving to one that's thriving. Until then, it's extremely overpriced. We'll check back in when they start making actual progress with product revenues.

Rare earth stocks are a hot topic as investors realize that demand is increasing because of all the green technologies that use them. There are 17 rare earths utilized in everything from magnets to windmills, but they're on the radar of nations everywhere as rare earths are a necessity when you're creating war machines like fighter jets and submarines. Tesla announced their intentions to stop using rare earths, perhaps in response to the fact that China dominates the rare earths industry while the United States looks to remove their dependency on China for importing rare earths. Over 90% of rare earth imports utilized by the U.S. come directly from China. The same holds true for the European Union. We take a look at who has all the rare earth reserves, who is producing the most rare earth, and which two rare earth stocks caught our eyes for a possible future article on the topic. (Okay, twist our arms, we're talking about MP Materials and Lynas.) If you're keen on that, please share this video and subscribe to our channel.

Cash secured puts may seem like an easy way to generate income, but selling put options is best suited for investors with larger amounts of money to work with. Our tutorial on selling put options looks at the basics of a put option on both sides of the trade, and how selling cash secured puts doesn't necessarily work in your advantage if you have strong bullish convictions on a stock (that's why you're trying to purchase it through selling puts, right?). Our guide on cash secured puts explained is a must-watch for newbie investors who might be tempted to think that selling puts on their Robinhood account is an easy way to generate income. Always remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch. We also explore the notion of dollar-cost-averaging and diversification, both of which dictate which stocks you can sell cash secured puts for.

BNGO stock is receiving lots of attention from retail investors, some who claim Bionano Genomics stock is the next Illumina waiting to happen. The last time we looked at $BNGO stock it was being hyped to the moon based on some interest expressed by ARK Invest on Twitter than ended up going nowhere. Today, BNGO stock is trading at less than a dollar which means a delisting may be in their future. More concerning would be all the cash they're burning with a large salesforce that isn't selling machines fast enough. Will their at-the-market offerings be enough to sustain this company until they can expand those weak gross margins and start showing some semblance of profitability? We're not going to invest and find out. Bionano Genomics stock falls below our $1 billion market cap cutoff, so we're continuing to avoid this stock going forward.

  • Why Trading Options is a Horrible Idea

Stay informed with our free disruptive technology investing newsletter, Nanalyze Weekly. Signup now at https://www.nanalyze.com/nanalyze-weekly/. This episode is pulled from a YouTube presentation. View the original presentation at https://youtu.be/rqp0yy_pr6s.

Trading options is a dumb idea, but most newbie investors don't know any better. Retail option trading has increased tenfold over the past decade as platforms like Robinhood encourage newbie investors to engage in risky behavior that does nothing but transfer wealth from people with no means to those evil hedge funds that everyone loves to hate. Academic research shows time and time again that retail investors who dabble in options, especially call options, are likely to consistently lose money over time. Oh sure, they'll have some winners, just like how a blackjack dealer doles out the occasional 21, but as in a casino game, the odds are fixed. Did you really think Joe Retail investors sitting around in his underwear buying some call options can really compete with generative AI algorithms that bested the world's top Go players? Academic research shows that retail investors consistently lose money despite what some muppet on YouTube is trying to tell you.

Our Snowflake stock analysis looks at key metrics for this rapidly growing data warehousing company that's now decided that generative AI is the way forward. We're largely dismissing their conversion to the generative AI religion as hype and focusing on how they've responded to the recent macroeconomic headwinds. The short answer is that the company continues to fire on all cylinders with strong net retention rates, especially among their largest clients. There's lot of room to grow, and they appear to be cozying up to one of their biggest competitors (at least according to Gartner), Microsoft. If you're holding SNOW stock then this analysis of their recent investor deck is a must-see. If you're thinking about investing in Snowflake stock, then you'll be particularly interested in the $SNOW valuation slide.

Stock analysis for beginners is about not having to learn a bunch of financial concepts that you'll have forgotten by the weekend, it's about applying basic principles of risk management when analyzing new stocks. To start, have a size cutoff. Institutional investors do, so why don't you? Our market cap cutoff sits at $1 billion, and we never invest before meaningful revenues. That's what venture capitalist do, and it's why they have a nine out of ten failure rate. Learn about what a company does so you can explain it to your grandmother, then figure out where they're actually generating revenue from and who is involved in the process. If it's a tech stock, what might threaten that revenue growth? For dividend stocks, what might cause those dividends to stop increasing? We examine a firm called Digimarc DMRC to learn about watermarking technology that's being used by Walmart. Having a client that big is often a double-edged sword, and they're also why we're not interested in investing. If you're looking for a guide to analyzing stocks for beginners, you found one.

AI drug stocks haven't quite been spotted by the "let's call everything a play on generative AI" lot so they're still languishing since the last time we checked in. Names like BenevolentAI, BioXcel, and Lantern Pharma are just too small, and wrought with too many problems, to be given a serious consideration. Stick with the larger firms like Recursion, Relay Therapeutics, Exscientia, and Abcellera. As for Schrodinger, that's not an AI stock, but the only one of the lot we're holding in our own tech stock portfolio. This video takes a closer look at these seven AI drug stocks plus an honorable mention for Schrodinger and an Easter egg at the end - a Hungarian firm that wants to transform drug discovery by creating digital twins of humans.
