In this last episode we reflect on the things that helped Nancy, like journaling and meditation. She was lucky to have several outlets where she could work on herself, but recalls how sometimes it was so loud in her head that even meditating would make it worse. She had to learn to keep finding the ways that did work.
When we talked about what marriage meant to her now, after two divorces she wasted no time in sharing that marriage and having a beautiful relationship are not dependent on each other. It was also reassuring to hear her explain the importance of being alone before jumping into another relationship. Or how we forget the beauty that happened between then and the divorce and how no matter how good you may do, we all tend to notice the one bad thing. It was easy to hear her speak about something that has so much significance because she is not defined by it. She is not bitter or charged by what happened, more like grateful that was able to experience and learn from it.
When asked if she would do it all over again, she didn’t even flinch. Stating yes immediately and then sharing how she doesn’t regret any of it because it was all an opportunity. It was a very mature way of arriving to the end of our conversation, so we ended properly after that with a word game.
I feel like Nancy has done a lot of work within herself to really appreciate and be responsible for the life she currently has. She has reinvented what partnership means for her and assigned it a value she deems worthy and the language to have it exist as such.
In some of her last thoughts she says that we create our reality, no one else. After sitting with that statement for some time, I understood it to be a deep message and yet it is so simple. We do create our realities. We all have the power to choose what that reality may be and some pretend like we don't have a say in it.
