If you have had a very light breakfast, you can meditate after an hour and a half. Before that you will not have a deep, true meditation because your subtle nerves will be very heavy and sluggish. The major cords — Ida, Pingala and Sushumna — find it extremely difficult to allow the cosmic energy to pass through them if the body has just taken a full meal.

If you want to meditate most sincerely, it is always advisable to meditate on an empty stomach. Now, empty does not mean totally empty. If you are pinched with hunger, eat something very light: otherwise, your hunger will disturb your meditation. You can have a cup of juice or water. And after meditation, you should try to wait for at least half an hour before you eat, for it takes this amount of time to assimilate the spiritual forces that you have received.

The outer war is the war that man fights with man, nation fights with nation, country fights with country. Now the question is: when and how can these wars come to an end? These wars can come to an end only when the inner war first stops. That is to say, when in the inner world, the inner being or the soul conquers ignorance, fear, doubt and death. Then in the outer world there will be no necessity to wage war. We fight because deep inside us there is disharmony, there is fear, there is anxiety and there is aggression. When deep within us there is peace, joy, plenitude and fulfilment we shall not invite war. So the outer war will come to an end when the inner war is resolved, when the inner war stops. Both wars will come to an end and are bound to end in the process of human evolution.

Van egy nagy különbség a hit és a törekvés között. A hit, az valami teljesen megszokott. Mindannyian rendelkezünk hittel, a hit a fizikai világban kezdődik, minden közönséges ember rendelkezik vele. Hiszünk a barátainkban, hiszünk a könyvekben, van hitünk a tanárban – a tudásában a képességében, hogy helyesen tanít bennünket. Van hitünk Istenben is. A hit azonban passzív, míg a törekvés egy aktív, dinamikus erő. Mindannyian hisszük, hogy végül megvalósítjuk Istent, ám a hit egymaga nem fog minket a Célunkhoz vinni. Ahhoz törekvéssel kell rendelkezzünk. És az intenzív törekvéshez egy spirituális mesterre van szükségünk.

Ha van egy barátom, aki jó sofőr, akkor van hitem abban, hogy elvisz a célomhoz. Mindamellett ez a hit nem tesz képessé rá, hogy olyan vezető legyek, mint ő. There is a great difference between faith and aspiration. Faith is very common. We all have faith; faith begins in the physical world; every ordinary person has it. We have faith in our friends; we have faith in books; we have faith in a teacher — in his knowledge and in his ability to teach us correctly. We also have faith in God. But faith is passive, while aspiration is an active, dynamic force. We all have faith that we will eventually realise God, but faith alone will not bring us to our Goal. For that we must have aspiration. And for intense aspiration, we need a spiritual Master.

If I have a friend who is a good driver, then I have faith that he will take me to my destination. However, this faith will not enable me to drive as he does. But if I really aspire to learn to drive, then he will be able to teach me and someday I will also become a good driver. It is the same in the case of a spiritual Master. We may have faith in his realisation, but we must also aspire. We have to make the effort ourselves. Our aspiration must have a goal, the Goal of God-realisation. We must have a burning flame within. If we aspire, God’s Grace will descend upon us and carry us forward to our Goal.
