This week we look at Fredericton, Moncton and Saint John and their respective applications to the Federal Government's Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation. Lots of announcments and lots to talk about this week as we learn more about what cities are undertaking across the nation to address the housing crisis.
Happy New Year Listeners! We are back this week with a series of predictions on what to expect in 2024 in the world of NB Politics. What is next? We give our best guesses.
Welcome to our last episode of the year where we chat about the past and take a look at what 2024 might look like in the world of New Brunswick politics. Thank you to all our listeners for joining us in 2023!
In this episode, our frequent panel member Shawn Rouse is back to help analyze, digest, and deliberate on 5 stories currently hot topics in New Brunswick politics. The emerging pension issue with CUPE and the PC Governments betrayal of the negotiated contracts, homelessness across NB and Minister Kris Austin's comments on the "leftist agenda", The Aim Recycling Report is out, new polls are out, and we've got Shawn's take on the possibility of change with a provincial Liberal government. We will break down the fumbles that are happening on Steve Outhouse's watch, comment on the parties positions, and more.
This week we do a deep dive with Better Streets founder Tony Stortz. Tony has been on a mission to support communities in developing plans and initiatives to help address the housing crises in our communities. In this episode, we will dive into the realities of the unhoused, politicians, NYMBIs, and talk about a path forward for supporting the unhoused in Canada.
This week we are joined by County Meath, Ireland Councillor Noel French who is a veteran in Irish politics, a historian and all around stand up gent. You'll hear about his experience in Ukraine, his local citizen-first approach, his views on the housing crisis in Ireland & abroad, and lots more. We have a lot in common with our counterparts across on the Emerald Isle so listen in!
Cover your ears because there's some strong language this episode. It's been a decade this year and your hosts are looking to one of history's most iconic activists for an explanation on how we move forward with the proposals for taking New Brunswick in a more Christ-like direction. Here for the tough conversations this week so beware!
Jo is back and we welcomed Alex White, Leader of the New Brunswick NDP Party for a deep dive into where the party is at, where they are headed and what Alex sees for the future of NB politics. Workers, the Fake '23 Provincial Election Scare & Budgets as Moral Documents are on the roster so tune in for our longest episode yet!
This week we are going to have to soldier on without Joanna Killen who is feeling under the weather and doing her damnedest to recover so she can get back and let you all know what she really thinks about the NB political landscape. For now, We've asked former guest Shawn Rouse and frequent listener and #nbpoli politico Just Wiswell to regale us with all the "coulda, woulda, shoulda's" that is the reality of the PC government's interactions with New Brunswickers. Another week has come and gone and no election has been called, but the threat is still there.
We are going to get beyond the political calculus and election chatter this week to dive into some of the frontline issues affecting New Brunswickers. There is a lot of noise out there and by the sound of some of it, you would think most folks in NB are concerned about policies guiding our teachers, reducing our debt, or gun rights. We know that isn't true and so this week we have a great chat with friend of the podcast Katie Herrington who has been working in community development and brings a political science perspective as well.
