Surprises all around NB, no election has been called. That's right, Premier Higgs had us all so convinced there would be an election that even Elections NB was fooled into spending tax payer dollars to begin setting up returning offices. So what does it mean and where are we going? It looks like Blaine read the tea leaves on some recent results in Manitoba and/or some internal polling. What does it mean for the Liberals? Frustration. Let's talk about it.
This week your hosts pontificate on what looks like a last minute decision to call off the snap election. That being said, you never know what New Brunswick politics has in store for you now do you? We also chat campaigning in a new world and take a peek at some ridings we missed last week. Thanks to our loyal listeners for keeping us in check!
You may have heard the news or seen us on TV this week. Your Co-Hosts are in a tricky spot when it comes to their municipal positions as city councillors in the City of Saint John. We will let you in on all the drama that took place with us at common council this week. Finally we will break down some ridings to watch for the potential provincial election.
Is an early election written in the stars? Joanna seems to think so while Brent pushes back and talks about the bizarre road map that exists for the PC party to even hope to hold onto a minority government let alone a majority. Blaine Higgs is determined to be the first premier to not only lose confidence during a minority government but to lose it in a majority government position while party infighting continues with the PC's and the Liberals are flat-footed. Will the new culture war conservatives win the battle for the political spirit of New Brunswick? or will the Liberals and Greens devour the Higgs experiment and turn the province on a new path?
This week we have Community Organizer & all-around smart & thoughtful Sean Rouse who has been educating folks on the efforts undertaken by the province around Policy 713. We unpack our experience with the Million March 4 Canada protest & counter-protest that took place across the country on September 20. We finish off with a Hot Take from Sean about regional cooperation between our respective municipalities.
In this podcast, we talk to Doug Griffiths who served under 3 different premier's in Alberta and turned into a best selling author with his book "13 Ways to Kill Your Community" . We will touch on issues like energy politics, industrial tax differences between New Brunswick and Alberta, and what it means to build good cities.
We are thrilled to kick off our highly-anticipated Season 2 with an enlightening discussion on one of today's most pressing issues - the Canadian Housing Crisis. In this episode, we sit down with none other than Millenial Moron, a prominent voice in the realm of housing data analysis with 135,000+ TikTok followers and a popular series that compares Canadian real estate options to Italian Villas, European Castles and Islands no less. It is a dark time for housing in Canada and we dive deep into the data & potential solutions going forward. Spoiler: There will be some broken hearts.
This week we are going to provide you with an overview of the leadership behind the major political parties and their organizations. Obviously the most interesting is the engagement by PC party president Erika Hachey who rejected the leadership review of Premier Higgs by riding presidents. We will talk about why that might have been, what's at stake for them, and we will compare that to the NB Liberal Party and Green Party. We will wrap things up with a broad conversation about what's happening around the province and the federal government with regard to housing and municipalities.
It's been a few months since we had an opportunity to cover a full range of forward-facing NB Poli issues so that's exactly what we are doing today. We will start with a follow-up from the fantastic feedback and coverage we've gotten and that has been happening about Christian nationalism and dominionism. We will look at the federal landscape and how it impacts NB as we see a cabinet shuffle and new polling numbers for the Conservative party. Finally, we will end with an excellent mailbag question on the carbon tax.
This week we are diving more into the issue of the growing Christian influence over the PC party in NB with Faytene Grassechi rallying people to support Blaine Higgs. We will have an insider chat with Tatyana Russell about her journey over with Faytene at the Eastgate House of Prayer (EHOP) in Quispamsis.
