Welcome to episode 17 of Next of Kin Parents Podcast! I'm Emma, a British Expat, and Mum of 1, living in Dubai, UAE, and this podcast follows along my own journey raising my daughter and starting my first business.

I am so pleased to be joined on this episode by Leilani, Founder of Wildflower Family Coaching, and Mum of 2. It is reported that 2/3rds of couples report a drop in relationship quality after having children. As a trained counselor, Leilani has a wealth of experience helping families to navigate this change and she shares some of her tips with me as well as advice on how to access attainable support in varying forms.

This episode is aimed at the Dads too! I run my personal top tips for Dads-to-be past Leilani to get her input.

Welcome to episode 16 of Next of Kin Parents Podcast! I'm Emma, a British Expat, and Mum of 1, living in Dubai, UAE, and this podcast follows along my own journey raising my daughter and starting my first business.

Welcome to episode 15 of Next of Kin Parents Podcast! I'm Emma, a British Expat, and Mum of 1, living in Dubai, UAE, and this podcast follows along my own journey raising my daughter and starting my first business.

I am so pleased to be joined on this episode by Farah, Founder of Girls Who Walk Dubai, and first-time Mum to 1 year-old Layla. I find Farah's journey really inspiring, and I myself have felt the magic of joining the Girls Who Walk net-walks. In fact, as mentioned in the episode, I was encouraged to start Next of Kin on one of these free walks!

I was keen to know how Farah had created and grown the group, and during these discussions Farah shared so many tips from confidence, following your dream, staying connected to your partner, and so much more!

We have a lot of similarities, including our current parenting phase, so personally, it was great to chat with someone on a similar journey to me, experiencing shared struggles and emotions.

Welcome to episode 14 of Next of Kin Parents Podcast! I'm Emma, a British Expat, and Mum of 1, living in Dubai, UAE, and this podcast follows along my own journey raising my daughter and starting my first business.

I feel very lucky to have been able to rack Millie from @consciously.montessori brain on all things Montessori for this episode. Millie has a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, a master's in Psychology, and years of experience as a Montessori educator, but importantly, she's also a Mum to 1-year-old Rupert so she can speak to us honestly about how she implements a Montessori approach at home for her son. I personally picked up a lot of tips that I want to add to my own parenting toolkit.
 
Some things that we discuss include:

• What is the Montessori approach?
• What is the difference between Montessori schools and traditional schooling?
• What age range does Montessori apply to?
• How to approach boundaries, difficult behaviour, and big emotions
• I admit to 'un-montessori-ing' our floorbed

In this week's episode I want to get real about sleep and the societal expectations surrounding it. After reading Lucy Pasha-Robinsons article for the Guardian on societal expectations around sleep and how it is used as a measure of parenting success, I want to open up as a Mother in the depths of sleep deprivation about my journey so far in the last 11 months. This leads me on to discussing the ever-present conflicting advice and duality of emotions.

It's just me for this week's episode, I catch you up on how the brand launch is going and my feelings about leaving my job and deciding to start a business. On the mumpreneur theme, I then give you my 6 ideas, or sparks of inspiration, for new career ideas or income streams, especially for us Mums! If you don't want to return to work after maternity leave, I hope this helps you to come up with some ideas. I also discuss the practicalities of how to get started on your own business.

Welcome to episode 11 of Next of Kin Parents Podcast! I'm Emma, a British Expat, and Mum of 1, living in Dubai, UAE, and this podcast follows along my own journey raising my daughter and starting my first business.

Today I am joined on the podcast by Steph from Tots Play. Originally from Liverpool, Steph has 10 years of experience as a teacher specialising in Early Years, and recently bought Tots Play, baby and toddler development classes, over to Dubai from the UK. I first met Steph a few months ago when I started taking Bonnie to her Discovery Tots classes, which I highly recommend!

In this episode, we talk about baby development and how to play with your baby, especially in the early months. Steph is full of encouraging tips and advice from how to leave the house for the first time on your own with a newborn, to why baby sign language, yoga, and tummy time are recommended, and tips on how to try them out with your baby.

I really appreciate Steph opening up about her tough feeding journey, I can't believe after having to undergo surgery she was still encouraged to breastfeed, and after this chat, I wish we could eradicate the judgment around how we feed our babies.

Of course, I personally also had to ask Steph about how she was finding owning her first business so I can take some learnings for Next of Kin!

Welcome to episode 10 of Next of Kin Parents Podcast! I'm Emma, a British Expat, and Mum of 1, living in Dubai, UAE, and this podcast follows along my own journey raising my daughter and starting my first business.

Today I am joined on the podcast by Julie Haydn-Higgins aka The IG Midwife. Julie is a UK-trained Midwife with 18 years of experience. We'll talk in-depth about how her own complicated pregnancies, adoption, and motherhood journey have helped her to become such a passionate Midwife. Not only is Julie a practicing Midwife but she works tirelessly to improve maternal care and to create the community that we are lacking as expats. If that wasn't enough she also runs 2 companies; Women and Families Wellbeing and British Care.

It was so enjoyable to get to know Julie and find out about her life and what makes her so positive and able to live life to the fullest. She also covered all of the most asked questions:

• Tips for easing morning sickness
• Does it matter how much weight you gain in pregnancy? What is normal?
• How will I know when I am in labour?
• How to choose a good doctor 
• When to see a doctor
• What causes flat head syndrome and how to prevent it?
• How do I nurture my baby into a happy and confident adult? 
• When can a baby fly and top tips for the plane

And so much more!
