When the Marketplace team floated the idea of a podcast for kids about money about a year ago, I loved it. I listened to the pilot episodes with my kids and it sparked some great family conversations so I jumped at the opportunity to provide seed funding for this project. Now five weeks into launch, Million Bazillion, has rocketed to the top of the charts for Family and Kids podcasts on iTunes.
Thanks to Sitara Nieves, Executive Director of On-Demand at Marketplace and Jed Kim, host of Million Bazillion for stopping by and giving us a behind the scenes look at what goes into creating such a popular podcast. They will share their creative process, the research that informed the development of this podcast and the feedback that they have received from listeners. Enjoy!
Jack is a repeat guest on the podcast. He's currently a student at East Greenwich High School in Rhode Island. When we last spoke with Jack earlier this year he was advocating for financial education alongside Treasurer Magaziner. In this podcast, Jack discusses his work this summer leading a group of students through a series of investing lessons. Well, that's what I thought we were going to talk about. Instead our conversation took a detour as we talked about the speculative nature of today's stock market and how apps are skewing students' perceptions of the stock market and their behaviors. He has a fascinating take on this and I urge educators to take note as this is what your students will be talking about this fall! Enjoy!
Let's face it, figuring out how much a college costs is an incredibly opaque process that most don't discover until that aid award letter arrives sometime in April. Mark Salisbury was all too familiar with that process as an admissions officer where he worked directly with families trying to figure out this out. He knew there had to be a better way which led him to found TuitionFit. Hear the journey that Mark has taken as an entrepreneur while also learning more about the cost of college and the impact of Covid-19 on higher education. Enjoy!
Erin shares her passion for financial education, what led her to write a book and the importance of storytelling to engage young people to take action with their finances. Enjoy!

The NGPF Community was fortunate to have an amazing set of speakers this week for our latest installment of the NGPF Speaker Series. Venture Investor and author Ryan Craig joined personal finance guru/author Eric Tyson to discuss both alternatives to college and for those choosing the college path, strategies to keep the cost of that degree to a minimum.
Here's some of the feedback from the teachers who attended the live event:Be sure to check out their latest books:
Thanks to Eric Tyson for returning to the NGPF podcast to discuss his new book, Paying for College for Dummies. You might remember Eric from an earlier podcast episode where our focus was on personal finance and investing. He has taken on this new challenge of explaining how the college financial aid process works in ways that we can all understand. Now that is an admirable undertaking given its opacity! In this podcast, Eric shares common misconceptions that people have about financial aid, the prevalence of discounting in higher ed and how to think about negotiating for a better package in this age of Covid-19.
Thanks to Stuart and Brian (a repeat guest on the NGPF Podcast) for sharing details about their respective entrepreneurial journeys and their Mimic Personal Finance platform. Enjoy!
