Dave, Craig and Adam join in-studio forces once more as NO ENCORE settles in for what turned out to be a rather stacked – and occasionally somewhat heated – episode.
We've got a brand new, nocturnal-themed Top 5 and a host of huge music news stories to get through, so let's do it to it before it does it to us...
If you love the show and want to support our weekly endeavours, please consider hitting up Patreon.com/noencore. Every little bit helps!
ACT ONE (10:22): Closing the loop on the Arcade Fire situation as the guys ponder morality, individual responsibility and hypocrisy; debating the merits, emotions and hard truths that come with Foo Fighters' extravagant tribute to the late Taylor Hawkins; zeroing in on Harry Styles and SPITGATE; and a nicely scattershot Electric Picnic report – it's a busy week in news!
ACT TWO (54:47): They say it changes when the sun goes down. Top 5 Songs About The Night takes the guys to dark, devastating and delirious places.

Sure, the quiz extravaganza was last week but the big questions keep coming! A return to our regularly scheduled running order, as Dave brings Craig back down to earth following his heroics against Nialler9. Our Top 5 takes us through some wonderfully enquiring tunes, but before that there’s some major news to parse through...

ACT ONE (6:38): With Arcade Fire opening their tour across town as we record, we attempt to make sense of the recent Win Butler revelations. From there, we’re into altogether lighter territory with a ramble through the MTV VMAs, taking in an impressively convoluted red carpet romance along the way. As ever, that only scratches the surface of the news.
ACT TWO (52:18): Keeping things quizzical, it’s our Top 5 Songs That Ask Questions!

Oh yes oh yes oh yes indeed - NO ENCORE IS BACK, BABY~!
We missed you. It's time to celebrate in the time-honoured tradition - with a quiz.
Craig Fitzpatrick defends his title - for the first time in 20 months, no less - against the one, the only, the Night Czar himself... Nialler9!
Six rounds await the boys and also YOU of course, dear listener. Do play along wherever you happen to be listening...

The boys are back in town aka Sonic Architect Adam's lovely studio. It's a hot summer night and the spirited strains of protest are bouncing off the walls – for better and for worse.
That's right, it's time to examine the most powerful and the most misguided protest songs in existence – Craig on Best, Dave on Worst. All that and a packed news section – it's NO ENCORE and it's right here, right now!
Stay tuned until the end of the show for an important announcement. Also, if you'd like to support this independent labour of love, please consider heading over to our dedicated Patreon page. Thank you, love you.
ACT ONE (3:57): Mercury Prize noms, the TRUTH about One Direction, U2's new home, Eastenders is so fucking metal, the return of Pulp and a summer playlist you should avoid – it's the news.
ACT TWO (37:54): Top 5 Protest Songs.

July is ending, the heat is ever-present and it's another Before The ENCORE! Twelfth episode means a year(!) of the show and I'm delighted to celebrate it with the first BTE panel discussion with Sheena Madden & David Wilkinson; two artist managers with an extensive background in the music industry.
David manages pop acts Bobbi Arlo & Bradley Marshall at the early to intermediate stages of their development, whilst Sheena is currently managing a more established artist in Farah Elle. This gave us so much to discuss including where to set boundaries, the dynamic of management in a pandemic, carving out pathways for artist development and what it's like inside of a release cycle.
Thanks for listening - if you haven't subscribed to NO ENCORE please consider doing so if you like what we do here. It's worth it I promise! We're also on Patreon if you would like to help support the show financially.
Back next month!

It's a vibe, guys.
Ambient Chillax finally takes centre stage on NO ENCORE as Dave and Craig attempt to turn the heatwave down - waaaaaaay down - with some patient, repetitive, insistent chillout tracks.
It's fun, though! Elsewhere - Craig's overdue Top Gun: Maverick review, Dave throws it back to some beloved Hot Press memories, and all the news that's fit to podcast.
ACT ONE: Craig attends the cinema.
ACT TWO (14:51): Roger Waters sounds off, David Crosby is an "unkind schmuck", important tattoo news, and how you can major in Harry Styles - it's the news!
ACT THREE (44:24): Top 5 Ambient Chillax.

It's time.
Channel ORANGE is 10 and NO ENCORE is ready, bolstered by a couple of birthdays of its own.
Dave and Craig combine on a rare team-up Top 5 to celebrate Big Frank.
Elsewhere, is Julian Casablancas in trouble? Is that just the vibe? And did Craig FINALLY see The Strokes?
ACT ONE (3:24): Strokes chat, a wild Doja Cat / Stranger Things incident, Radiohead need to shut up and play the hits, Spotify makes moves, Paul Weller has something to say and more - it's the news.
ACT TWO (37:54): We'll be thinkin' bout this list forever - it's our TOP 5 FRANK OCEAN SONGS, baby~!

It's time for NO ENCORE to go out of this world. Whether it's getting lost in space, dialling up B-movie sentiment or searching the stars for meaning – the boys go to infinity and beyond with this week's main event list-based face-off.
And also talk about some music news and Craig's beyond hopeful upcoming trip to Glasgow to see The Strokes.
It's a new episode and it's happening right now.
ACT ONE (9:18): Punch-up at The Eagles, Metallica get the Stranger Things treatment, Julian Casablancas says it's all good, Sky Ferreira's strange managerial past, and why you shouldn't troll Cardi B over music journalism – it's the news.
ACT TWO (38:36): Top 5 Science Fiction Songs.
Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Back at it once more, Dave Hanratty and Craig Fitzpatrick set the music world to rights amidst a post-Glastonbury haze. Neither man made it to Worthy Farm and Dave, in fact, did his best to avoid the entire affair entirely – but Craig parked himself in front of the TV alongside a strange new friend.
That's on the agenda, as is the first ever NO ENCORE sequel Top 5 as the boys deliver another round of their favourite ever live performances.
We're on Patreon if you'd like to support the show – patreon.com/noencore for bonus episodes, previews and playlists. We're also on INSTAGRAM now so do give us a follow @noencoreshow, thank you.
ACT ONE: The story of one man and his goldfish.
ACT TWO (10:10): #Glasto highlights and lowlights, Chris Martin's rural wander, Bono's family values, Madonna vs Rufus, Billie Joe Armstrong's dramatic declaration, and a long-awaited return to KISS KORNER – it's the news.
ACT THREE (46:57): Top 5 Live Performances: The Encore.

Before The ENCORE returns for the monthly music-industry deep-dive to bring you the voices from behind the scenes and shed a bit more light on what goes on to make things work the way they do.
This month I'm joined by Michelle Whitehead. Michelle has worked in the music industry for over 10 years now, gaining experience across a whole number of roles including marketing & PR for Aiken Promotions, MCD & her own freelance world before recently taking up a role with Singular Artists. We talk about a range of things in this episode including club-nights (in particular, one I frequented many times), how to and when in your career to contact a PR agency, and all of the experiences that each of her roles in the industry brought.
See you next month for more!
