With a maybe lockdown looming, and the promise that we’re all going to have to be spending a lot more time on our own this winter, Stevie and Tessa explore how to enjoy your own company, the difference between being lonely and being alone, and how to not just survive, but thrive on your own.

Want to persuade people without appearing preachy? Stevie and Tessa learn it’s all about empathy and sometimes slowing down your voice a bit. There’s more to it than that, of course, but we can’t put all the spoilers in the episode description can we? Let’s just say that after this you’ll be persuading people all over town. If that’s what you’d like to do.

Struggle to make tasteful decisions when it comes to decorating? Tessa would ideally like to live in a Barbie pink room inspired by one she saw in Goodfellas and Stevie until recently attempted to make every room look like the Gryffindor common room. They delve into the ways you can adapt, negotiate and embrace your taste (or lack of) without being drowned in Pinterest hacks that all somehow involve rope.

Want to go to therapy but no idea where to start? In a time when everyone could do with someone to talk to, Stevie and Tessa chat to the totally brilliant Psychology Well-being Practitioner Melissa about how to self-refer through the NHS, how to get the most out of your sessions and to how to stop trying to make your therapist laugh.
Melissa's recommendations if you're looking for a therapist; (Some of these are private and some are NHS):

Remember that if you are severely struggling and feeling in crisis then you can seek urgent help by making an urgent same day GP appointment, going to to A&E or calling Samaritans.

Constantly glued to your phone? Accidentally lost a whole day scrolling through pictures of seals? Stevie (ex-phone addict currently in recovery) and Tessa (techniques for not becoming reliant on hers include having it run over by a car) trawl through various ways to keep your screen time down and get you analogue again.

Tessa and Stevie get flustered about their birthdays so have done some research as to how to stop getting flustered. Whether it’s the concept of ageing, career milestone angst or just not wanting a fuss (while secretly wanting a fuss) here’s how to sail through a birthday with ease.

In a creative rut? Lost your mojo? Hit the wall and convinced you’ll never be able to make anything ever again? Stevie and Tessa are feeling exactly the same. They deep dive into the four causes of creative block, and learn how to get over it (or under it, through it, or all the way around it).

Did you know that anger is actually helpful? Stevie and Tessa have learned that every human experiences anger, but often women (and some men of course!) are socialised to repress it causing all kinds of problems. So if you’re thinking, “I never get angry” - perhaps you should?! If this sounds very clever and psychological that’s because it is (Stevie did a lot of googling), so strap in and learn how to communicate anger, what to do when it rears its (possibly not so ugly) head, and how to make it your friend.
