    Lawmakers in Washington are still deadlocked in budget negotiations, with automatic spending cuts and tax hikes set to kick in early next year, and North Country hospital leaders say that if the nation goes over the so-called fiscal cliff, regional hospitals will face major cuts. The North Country was one of the top winners of grant money and economic development funding in Governor Cuomo's statewide competition, which means that the region now has $90.2 million to spend on new housing. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is in talks with legislative leaders on a gun control package that he could introduce as part of his State of the State message on Jan. 9, 2013.
