  • Unlock Ten: The Bible Wasn’t Written To You

One of the biggest mistakes we make is assuming the Bible was written directly to us. It wasn't. It was written to real people living in a very different time, place, and culture. BUT. It was written for us.

In this tenth episode of our Unlocking the Bible series, we explore seven key realities of the ancient world, from food insecurity and Roman occupation to patronage and family life, that will completely change the way you read the Bible. When you understand the original audience first, you'll discover a clearer picture of what God was saying then and what he's saying to us today.

  • Unlock Nine: Find Your Place in the New Testament Story

Last week, we explored the story of the Old Testament. This week, we discover how the New Testament completes and continues that story.

From Jesus announcing God's kingdom to the birth of the church and the promise of restoration, the New Testament isn't just history. It's the story we're living in right now. In this episode, we unpack the Bible's three final acts, explain what it means to live between Jesus' first and second coming, and explore how seeing yourself in God's story changes the way you view your purpose, your struggles, and your everyday life.

  • Unlock Eight: Find Your Place in the Old Testament Story

Last week, we explored the idea that every person lives inside a story. This week, we begin unpacking the Bible's story by looking at the three major movements of the Old Testament: creation, rebellion, and Israel.

Along the way, we trace the story of a loving God who creates a good world, watches humanity repeatedly reject him, and yet continues to pursue and restore his people. From Eden to Abraham, Moses to David, the prophets to exile, the Old Testament reveals a God who refuses to give up on those he loves.

More than ancient history, this story helps us understand our own lives. The same distrust and rebellion that shaped Israel's story still shape ours today. And the same faithful God who kept showing up for them is still at work in our modern world.

  • Unlock Seven: The Bible is a Story

The stories we believe shape the lives we live. Whether it's our family background, cultural values, or past experiences, every one of us is living inside a story that helps us make sense of the world. But what if the story guiding your life isn't the whole story?

In this episode, we introduce the Bible not as a rulebook, but as God's story. We discuss why understanding the Bible's overarching narrative helps us make sense of our own lives, find purpose in ordinary moments, and see that our lives are part of a story much larger than our own.

It's the beginning of a bigger conversation that we'll continue over the next two episodes as we explore the stories of the Old and New Testaments.

    • Unlock Six: Is the Bible Historically Accurate?

For many, one question stands in the way of reading the Bible: Can it actually be trusted?

In this episode of our Unlocking the Bible series, we explore the historical reliability of the New Testament and examine the evidence scholars use to evaluate ancient documents. We discuss manuscript evidence, textual variations, archaeology, eyewitness testimony, and the question of whether the biblical text has been changed or corrupted over time.

We also compare the New Testament to other ancient works, address common objections, and explain why many historians take its claims seriously. We end by considering why confidence in the Bible ultimately comes back to confidence in Jesus himself.

    • Unlock Five: The Bible is a Library

Ever feel lost when you open your Bible? That's understandable. The Bible isn't a single book. It's a library of 66 books written by dozens of authors across more than 1,500 years. Without a basic roadmap, it's easy to get overwhelmed.

In this episode of our Unlocking the Bible series, we explore the Bible's major sections, how they fit together into one unified story, and what makes each part unique. We also discuss Bible translations, where to start reading, and a few simple tools that can help you navigate God's Word with greater confidence.

    • Unlock Four: The Bible is About Jesus

Could you be reading the Bible for good advice while missing the good news altogether?

Many Christians approach the Bible looking for principles, rules, and practical tips for living. But the Bible isn't primarily a book of good advice. It's the story of a gracious God rescuing spiritually dead people through Jesus.

In this episode of our Unlocking the Bible series, we explore the difference between moralism and Christianity, why simply trying harder can never transform your heart, and how every passage of Scripture ultimately points to Jesus. We also discuss a practical framework for reading the Bible: identifying your need, acknowledging your inability to meet it, and discovering the grace God provides through Christ.

    • Unlock Three: The Bible Shows You Your Needs

For many Christians, Bible reading slowly becomes a performance metric, a checklist, or a search for information rather than transformation. But what if one of the main purposes of Scripture is to expose your need for God?

In this episode of our Unlocking the Bible series, we explore how the Bible acts like a mirror, revealing our sin, our weaknesses, our misplaced trust, and our need for grace. We also walk through several passages to demonstrate how reading the Bible this way can radically change your relationship with God and help you see Jesus more clearly.

We end with some practical questions you can ask while reading the Bible to help uncover your deeper needs, expose what’s happening in your heart, and lead you toward greater dependence on God.

    • Unlock Two: The Bible Isn't About Heroes

Many people read the Bible like it’s a book of rules, heroic examples, or a spiritual self-improvement guide. But according to Jesus himself, the whole Bible is actually about him.

In this episode of our Unlocking the Bible series, we explore how grace completely changes the way we read Scripture. We talk about why the Bible isn’t ultimately about human heroes, how legalistic Bible reading distorts our relationship with God, and how seeing Jesus at the center of every story transforms both the way we read the Bible and the way we see ourselves.

Then, we get practical, unpacking stories like David and Goliath and Peter walking on water to demonstrate what it looks like to read the Bible through the lens of Jesus and his rescue mission.

      • Unlock One: The Bible is a Gift

Have you forgotten what a gift the Bible really is?

In this second episode of our Unlocking the Bible series, we explore why the Bible is far more than just information, obligation, or a spiritual checkbox. The Bible is God's Word to us! It reveals who God is and who we are, provides wisdom and stability in a confusing world, and ultimately points us to Jesus the whole way through. The first key to becoming a regular Bible reader isn’t better discipline; it’s recovering your desire for the gift itself.
