The Amazon series Panic is based on the book of the same name by Lauren Oliver. The general idea of facing down fears is of high interest to teens, but when jumping off cliffs and staying overnight in a haunted house turns into murder and mayhem, it's probably time to admit the game has gotten well out of control. Interestingly, some of the more intriguing characters are the ones who have moments that raise them above who everyone else expects them to be.

Disney/Pixar took a trip to the Italian seaside this summer with Luca, the story of a sea monster who turns human as he breaks the surface to explore, and love, the world above water. While not among the best of Pixar's films, Luca is still a lovely illustrated feature with a focus on loyalty and friendship.

The Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy is a story of romance and angels and demons, lyrically written by Laini Taylor (see Episode 12: Muses of Strange Dreamers). However, although the story is slanted for YA readers, it's more appropriate for New Adult, and older. Plus, beyond the beautiful writing, we have a few questions about the magic system of this universe.

Zac & Mia is an adaptation of a book with the same name by A. J. Betts. Although the series returns to a familiar theme of teens battling life-threatening illness, this series is less dark and romanticized and more respectful and encouraging of those who fight to live and the struggles of rebuilding their lives. There's still plenty of YA Romance in it, but not enough to overshadow the relatively realistic feel of the story.
