Inspired by Indiana Jones, Makiia Lucier crafts a relatively clean YA maritime adventure in Isle of Blood & Stone. There's some romance, some intrigue, some supernatural and fantastical elements, and it all begins with a map...

The Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy is a story of romance and angels and demons, lyrically written by Laini Taylor (see Episode 12: Muses of Strange Dreamers). However, although the story is slanted for YA readers, it's more appropriate for New Adult, and older. Plus, beyond the beautiful writing, we have a few questions about the magic system of this universe.

Zac & Mia is an adaptation of a book with the same name by A. J. Betts. Although the series returns to a familiar theme of teens battling life-threatening illness, this series is less dark and romanticized and more respectful and encouraging of those who fight to live and the struggles of rebuilding their lives. There's still plenty of YA Romance in it, but not enough to overshadow the relatively realistic feel of the story.

Throwback! to the film adaptation of The Princess Diaries based on the book series by Meg Cabot.

Fun, silly, and a classic YA rom-com, there are still certain moments that got us thinking. For example, how much and which type of physical change should be allowed or encouraged in becoming a princess, aka prettier version of yourself? All that aside, our main highlight of this film is Julie Andrews!

When Cobra Kai first aired on YouTube it seemed to be on the right track, not only in bringing back the original Karate Kid cast, but also in the overall story arc of a broken-man, anti-hero trying to salvage some part of his deadbeat life. Violence escalates as the seasons progress--losing much of the more interesting character development along the way--although, this story also (perhaps) inadvertently highlights the need for a good male role model in the lives of teens and adults alike.
